DD has started liking to use a spoon - she's pretty good with it. The downside is, she now will refuse to eat foods she thinks are "spoon worthy" until a spoon is provided. But she enjoys using it, and it has encouraged her to eat foods I think she would've refused in the past. Like yogurt - she would only eat a bit before, and now with the spoon she'll have a decent serving of it. I haven't given her a plate yet - when we're out, she might get one but sometimes we bring a placemat with us and she can eat off that.

He would fuss and not eat until I put a piece on the fork for him to pick up. And with everything, like pizza or a quesadilla, things we were eating with our hands. But then he grew out of that phase and started taking the food off the fork to eat, but putting it on the fork in the first place kind of prompted him to want to eat it.

I got those for V for Christmas but we haven’t used them yet. We started BLW at 6 months and used these www.amazon.com/dp/B01LDIJVAM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_Vy92AbGDVANEVShe is awesome with that spoon and at 10 months is now trying to dip the spoon herself to get more. I want to try the fork we have soon though so I can report back.

thechickencoop I’ve been eyeing those but wasn’t sure it would be worth it. J does well with preloaded forks and spoons. When do they start using utensils on their own?

DS1 is decent with a fork (almost 3) but he knows he's faster with his hands and will usually eat most of his meal that way. Cave man!

DS1 asked if it would be ok if he used a sharp knife to cut them (sure, so I gave him one) then he asked for a fork because he needs a fork if he's going to use a knife (of course! Duh. Lol) so he proceeded to use the fork and knife appropriately to cut all of his nuggets into quarters to eat 😂😂😂

DS is going to make me crazy. He ate so well at home this weekend. Just tons of food. So we decided to try BLW at school again, and he will just sit in the chair and stare at the food. It was toast this morning for breakfast, cut in strips just like I do at home. He wouldn't touch it. What a turd! I'm going to have them serve lunch while I'm there today and see if he'll eat with me there.

DD has been refusing most food at meals lately. It's gotten to the point that her poop was back to looking like EBF poop and she had multiple blowouts at daycare. She seems like she's not in the best mood a lot of the time (clingy, very dramatic) and hasn't been sleeping well. Last night I tried giving her dinner before nursing, and she ate a bit more. It looks like she ate more at daycare this morning, so I'm hoping whatever was going on is improving now. I'm just not sure what's up with her or how to help.
We're swapping to a nanny share tomorrow. The other family is my coworker, and we're kind of just adding DD to their existing nanny setup. I'm feeling anxious that this isn't the best time for it, and that DD will react badly and my coworker (and her nanny) will judge me/regret agreeing to this.

gingy, babies, man! How did he do at lunch time with you there? I'm convinced J eats better at daycare than he does at home but I've never witnessed it myself. moutonrouge, J's been sick and really fussy at meal times and refusing to eat most things. I am really hoping he is over it because I am really over it! I'm sure she'll do great with the new nanny set up, don't worry!

piratecat he did much better at lunch. Mostly just ate the cheese off the pizza, but at least he touched it! He can be cranky in the mornings (like his mother...), so she was going to give him a small bottle and a little more time to wake up today before breakfast. I haven’t heard from her, so I assume no news is good news!

Update: He picked up his pancake and just held it. Didn't eat it, but also didn't scream at it. So that's a step in the right direction. He ate the baked ziti at lunch. Maybe he's just not a morning person.

Haha. Does he eat breakfast at home on the weekends? He does. That’s what’s weird. He loves cereal, toast, pancakes, fruit. He’ll even eat cereal on weekday mornings when I’m trying to get shit done and keep him busy. Idk what the school breakfast hangup is. Little weird’o.

Catching up on this thread!
My son started refusing the food I was sending to daycare because he wanted the food that the other babies were eating. Once I gave them the go ahead to feed him food off of their menu, he ate a lot better. I was shocked that he was so perceptive.

DD is eating a lot better with the new nanny. I'm realizing that she stopped eating well at daycare around the same time the other older babies moved to the toddler room. She was eating alone at the table and I'm sure wanted to go play instead. Sitting with the nanny and other baby for meals probably encourages her to sit and eat more. Right now her schedule during the day alternates meal/milk/meal - so it's hard to say one happens before the other, really. But hopefully she keeps eating a lot at meals and snacks so I can pump less.
I've also switched up our routine when we get home so she eats first and then we nurse a while later. She ate a ton of food for dinner so big success there.

J hasn't been eating much while he's been sick with HFMD but he seems to be back on track now that he is feeling better. But he has also refused to nurse a few times, either right after he gets home from daycare and before dinner, or after dinner and before bedtime. He's less than a month away from turning 1 so I guess that's probably okay nutritionally but it's making me a little sad. I feel like he is going to mostly self wean pretty quickly.

F is still hesitant on actual solids, but is getting more comfortable with the pouches. We've found there are some things she'll reliably eat (99% of the time anyway): - cucumbers - broccoli - mac & cheese - rice So it's a start. She still prefers to breastfeed above all, but I don't mind as long as she keeps eating some stuff. Still no luck with eggs/beans/etc (I still need to try those quinoa balls! I never cook anymore) and so I caved and got a pouch with chicken in it 😕 If she likes mac & cheese definitely try some of the protein pastas for extra protein & iron. Although I was reading about how calcium affects iron absorption so that may defeat the purpose. Will she eat pasta without cheese? Pasta w/ pesto (we throw it all kinds of veggies into it, like spinach, broccoli, green beans, etc.) is one of J's favorites. Or even just with butter or oil?

@icedtea
I like lentil penne pasta (Tolerant brand)... I seriously can’t tell a difference between that and regular pasta. I try not to go crazy with dairy, so I’ve just used ghee or oil with some nutritional yeast, which has a “cheesy” taste and appearance. I like the idea of a veggie heavy pesto too.
