babystandish I'll reply to your post in the Feb randoms here to keep this thread current. I'm all for birthing classes. I also wanted my H to be the primary support person, though we did hire a doula (and both loved her, will absolutely be getting another one this time around). He definitely struggled with the amount of pain I was in and how I was handling it (not very well). The birthing class we take was focused on natural pain management and she claimed to be realistic in demonstrating how birth can go (pain-level wise, emotions, reactions, etc). H felt it was helpful to be told techniques to try and to learn how to do them correctly. This time around, I'm looking into other pain management techniques because last time my contractions went to a 10 really quickly and then over that with Pitocin and no breaks and I mentally wasn't handling it well at all. I started saying our code word for pain meds way earlier than I thought I would. I handle other pain no problem, so I don't think it was me being a wimp and it was J not descending and them giving Pitocin to help (which did not). Anyway, anyone here take classes they felt helped? Hypnobirthing? Bradley? Something else?

I took Bradley classes with E and I am a firm supporter. Not only did they help with labor and techniques and tips but also healthy pregnancy and breastfeeding and just honestly so much information. I honestly felt like we always knew what to ask the doctor and when things were just not going right during labor, I felt like every decision was the right decision because we were so well informed. We are planning to do the refresher course this go around to feel as confident as we did last time during the process.

I took a class from my hospital about relaxation techniques that was somewhat helpful. For DS2, sitting on a birth ball and breathing and bouncing rhythmically really helped me. It got me to about 4.5/5cm at which point I got the epidural. I was so mad at dh because he forgot our birth ball but fortunately the hospital had one.

Ah yay, another month down! Just under 7 months to go...it sounds like so long but we have to attempt to sell our house and buy a new one in that timeframe because we have long outgrown our house. The pressure is on!

marshian I didn't take hypnobirthing but I did study it a bit and it was great with my second! Of course, she was my easiest birth. It didn't do a thing with my third when I had pitocin haha pitocin is the devil.

This is a super neurotic question, but did you guys eat prepared/bagged salads or salads from restaurants while pregnant. I don't eat lunch meat while pregnant and with the recent romaine lettuce scare, etc I don't eat prepared salads either. Am I being crazy? I love salad and have such a strong taste for it.

I didn't take any sort of birthing classes with my first because I was a smug bitch who knew she would be getting a ton of drugs ASAP and wouldn't need any of it.
LOLOLOLOL
Guess who had 2 failed epidurals on top of Pitocin and had to have a completely pain med-free birth?
So I might look into some birthing classes this time around.

Salads are fine. Honestly it’s a crap shoot what will be bad for you/get recalled. During my first pregnancy hummus got recalled. Who would have thought. Eat your salad and just pay attention if recalls happen.

Hi all! I’m tentatively hoping to join you and praying that posting here doesn’t somehow jinx us. Going in for 8 week appointment on Monday, but I think they’ll determine I’ll be closer to six weeks.
I am newly diagnosed hypothyroidism and am taking antidepressants which weren’t factored in last time. My previous pregnancy was affected by perinatal depression/anxiety and my kid was a preemie. So hoping everything goes well this time.
The birth happened so quickly that I didn’t really use breathing techniques, but that’s something to plan for this time. 🙂
My real random is that my heartburn kicked in before the positive pregnancy test (last time it was 3rd tri). It could be a long ride. 😣🤢

Deleted original content; I can’t read. Our hospital offered a one day class whih was helpful. I think everything else I knew to ask about was from online research. In terms of names of classes or methods, I have no clue.

TMI question, but how smelly are you down there? I remember it being more pungent while pregnant but either it's worse or just my sense of smell is insane.
Asking because I had a bad itch off and on for a month and asked the OB about it but she didn't think it was anything with no other symptoms (for either yeast infection or UTI).

Never did classes. Didn’t see the need and still don’t. I had a workmate take some a few weeks ago, and his girlfriend said it didn’t help them either. 🤷🏼♀️
I’d have gone pain med free with DS2 if they had checked me before placing the epidural 🤦🏼♀️. Thing didn’t even kick in fully by the time he was out. My nurses were always with me and were able to coach

marshian increase in progesterone can cause that by throwing off your pH. Get the special soap for that area and it should help.

We also did the Bradley method and loved/love it. I had a pain med free 39 hour labour with pitocin hospital birth with DD and then a completely med free 3.5 hour labour birth Center water birth with DS using the Bradley method strategies. For us it was awesome all around and we will definitely be reviewing our stuff again for this one!

Our house is officially on the market as of today!! The house we saw and liked is still available so we’re hoping all the dominos fall into place. The market isn’t super great though so who knows how long it could take for our house to sell

I tend to always have side effects from drugs, so if I could avoid the epidural and side effects and just get through labor without I think I’d feel much more comfortable. Did you take a class with the Bradley method? Or read a book? I plan on taking classes at the hospital but I don’t know if they offer something specific to Bradley...

Bradley method is a 12 week class taught in someone’s home (who is trained in the method). You usually look to start around 20-24 weeks Here is the website. www.bradleybirth.com

We took an actual Bradley method class with DD and then just read over our stuff again with DS (we didn’t take a refresher). The book husband coached childbirth is a good place to start if you can’t actually take a class!

Thank you! This may be difficult, my husband and I work very different shifts, and I work 2 jobs. Getting to a class will be hard 😩

Pretty sure I have a yeast infection. Waiting to hear what the OB thinks. So annoying.

We moved a couple of weeks ago and it is extra exhausting. Plus having like no energy in the evenings to unpack just stinks. The last time we moved was around month 7 of pregnancy-also do not recommend.

Not to scare you, but I think average is about 30 from start to finish with an hour of pushing for your average FTM 😳😳 at least, that’s the average from 2014/2015.
