I’m almost 29, and I still bite my nails. I have never smoked, but I’m pretty sarcastic. I didn’t have a pacifier...

DS1 gave up his pacifier at 9/10 months on his own. He has an awful oral sensory craving. Everything is in the mouth. I don’t put much stock in the pacifier is the cause.

ttcbabyj, hm, my H was a long-time thumb sucker and he doesn't smoke or overeat but I guess he is pretty sarcastic... is sarcasm really a type of oral fixation?? Well according to Freud it is...but then again he also thought we are sexually attracted to our opposite sex parents....so 🤷🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️

@icedtea I asked daycare to transition to sippy cups just last week so I’m not sure how he’ll do. At home I’ve had mixed luck with various cups but he does the best when I use the same Avent bottle with the nipple swapped out with the sippy.

ttcbabyj, yessss on the long term decisions. We are pretty breezy about screen-time and I almost never think about it. But every so often I'm like what if [friend's daughter] is a genius and DD isn't all because we let her watch TV and [friend] doesn't? AM I HOLDING MY DAUGHTER BACK?! And then H tells me to go have a glass of wine, and it passes. Tv, specifically YouTube, has taught my kid colors, shapes, animal names, dinosaur names and facts, letters, and now we are working on numbers. If that's holding her back, then I think I can live with it. Lol.

I guess my UO/FFFC is that I feel pretty strongly about no "screen time" before 2, for my kid. I do let him watch videos of himself or his cousins and we FaceTime with family often but we don't let him watch shows. I obviously don't care what you do with your kids.

Mine was no sugar before 1. DD has been getting screen time at daycare since she was 4 months old since they use it to calm the chaos of end of day pickup. It's mildly educational and interactive and most of the kids aren't sitting there like zombies. Well at least she wasn't, until recently, where she is now standing front and fucking center blocking the tv. Yup, I have that kid.

I have really mixed feelings on it. Ideally, I wouldn't do screen time before 18mo or so. But if it gets him to chill the fuck out and let me do a few things in relative peace, I might be ok with it. It's tough to navigate these kinds of things.

It's tough to navigate these kinds of things. I totally get it. You do what you have to do and I really don't imagine most people here are plopping their kids in front of the TV for hours and hours. You also have to prioritize what is important to you and I'm sure that there are things we do that other parents don't agree with.

I need recommendations for the easiest to install correctly car seat. I want to get a 3rd car seat, prob a rear facing only evenflow is what I’m thinking. For when asking for help with the baby. My car seat is awesome but it’s very hard to instal correctly and wouldn’t trust some one else to be able to. Especially grandparents “who’s kids survived” mentality Which one do you have currently? If you really don't trust them to install properly, I would be more inclined to just plan on doing it for them when they come to get the baby. Or if they don't typically need the space in the car, could they just leave it installed in their car?

The rule is no TV before 7am. We’re pushing it back slowly to 8am for when DS1 starts his integrated program next month. I don’t care about after school, but it’s off by 7pm. I’m pretty blasé about most parenting things, though
Car seats on top of a shopping cart and vaccines are my hills. I don’t really care about much else

Ooh I haven't tried putting a sippy top on the Avent bottle. Avent makes ones that specifically goes with the bottles. The “penguin” ones go to the natural bottles and there’s a different kind for the classics/anti-colic ones (I think that’s what they renamed them)

My grandmother understands and will ask me to check his harness as well the first time she has them for a trip

I thought sugar was going to be a hill, then I found my mother giving him rice krispie treats. I wasn't pleased, but it wasn't the end of the world. He ate the whipped cream off my dessert the other night. Best laid plans, and all that.

They will have to put it in them self if they are helping with pick up. But yes to just installing it ourselves if possible. If I can put it in for them ahead of time I will I have a graco 4ever Oh yea, I didn't think of daycare pick up. I am getting the Cosco Scenera as a second car seat and the installation looks pretty straight forward, but I don't have it yet. Would they be open to just leaving it in their car?

They said stuff about how she doesn’t pronounce words correctly 🤷🏼♀️ I’ve never watched it so I don’t know. It’s apparently a lot of speech therapists’ least favorite show for toddlers/preschoolers

It’s apparently a lot of speech therapists’ least favorite show for toddlers/preschoolers It's British English and all the characters have a British accent and use British English words. She pronounces them correctly for British English just not American English. I can see if you are struggling to speak words correctly in American English how it could potentially cause issues.

(Case in point: H and I are watching Jumanji 2 right now and F is in the room, watching occasionally as she walks around and plays.) This is us. On the weekends, I'm watching what I want to watch be because it's the only chance I have. DD will watch a little but mostly ignore it and play.

That’s probably why they hate her then. The majority of their case loads are kids struggling to speak correctly (or at all)

I'm thinking about getting an umbrella stroller. I like the City Mini but it takes up a lot of room in the trunk and it's too bulky for inside stores and such. I'm debating between the Summer Infant 3D mini, which has a 5 point harness (which we don't even use in the city mini but we have a snack tray which I feel keeps him better contained...) and reclines a bit (which we also don't use often) and a nice little parent console, and the Jeep North Star which is a bit smaller and lighter but only 3 point harness.

I get really confused about what umbrella stroller means. I thought it was something like this: But then the ones I see people talk about are a lot more intense.

I may just get that one as well, I don't know. There are some umbrella strollers with more features, like this one but still folds like an umbrella and is still pretty lightweight and compact. I could see something like that almost completely replacing the City Mini, which makes me a little sad... but I don't know. I am very indecisive.

I am tempted to get a new stroller to have one that folds a little more easily, or with 1 hand even, and is a bit lighter. Right now we have a Mountain Buggy Nano, which has been great and does everything we need. But we're having a nanny start in September, and you need 2 hands to fold the Nano. If she wants to take DD on the bus to the library, she would have to take DD out of the stroller, hope she stands right next to her while she folds it, and then repeat when they get off the bus.
The Cosco one looks like you could reasonably do it with one hand. The Nano isn't that heavy (I think it's 12 lbs) but it's a pain to carry.

moutonrouge, the Cosco one is inexpensive and probably worth a try. Otherwise, I keep seeing McLaren umbrella strollers and their one-handed folds on best stroller lists, but they are pricey for a second stroller.

I am still so undecided about having a second kid, otherwise I could sell some of the things I have to fund new things. Bah.
