pearbear I'm with you on the fantasy realm. However, I highly recommend Yarros' other non-fantasy books. The Things We Leave Unfinished gutted me. I'm reading In The Likely Event now.

I finished Reception by Kenzie Jennings, which is a splatterpunk/quite gory short novel about a wedding reception gone terribly wrong (or right if you're the grooms family). I enjoyed it, the gore was great (if that's your thing), but the last chapter kind of pissed me off enough to dock a star.

Finished The Only One Left. Not fantastic, but I liked it, 3.5 stars.

Which book publisher was it that offered the book recommendations based on a gift recipient's interests? Any idea when/if they're doing that again this year?
I know the books I got for DD were a hit last year. DH finally picked up one that I purchased for him last night.

I started The Santa Cruise by Fern Michaels from 2022. There's a line about one of the character's favorite self-help books is Girl, Wash Your Face. That didn't age well at all LOL.

Let me see if they have anything upβ¦ ETA not up for the season yet. It doesnβt give a date- maybe another week? Google is not super helpful.

I finished The Soulmate Equation and enjoyed it, it was cute and fun to read. I think Iβm going to read One in a Million by Lindsey Kelk next.
Correction- on a Night Like This by Lindsey Kelk. I already read One in a Million

That book keeps coming up in my "Lucky Day" books for Libby. I don't know if that section just never gets updated or what, but it's misleading.

I read The Neighborβs Secret, which was kind of ridiculous but entertaining. I also read These Silent Woods which was well written but a bit of a slog for me. Both were 3.5 star reads.
I also read Bone Deep which is about the Pam Hupp case. I was familiar with it but not in this detail. It was fascinating.
Iβm reading Sophie Cousens new one now - Is She Really Going Out With Him. Itβs great so far!

It seems to be the same books over and over - and some of them don't seem that appealing so I'm not sure how we'd be "lucky" to get them.

I finished Diavola. Loved it! One of those ones I could have kept reading, I wanted more of the story, but at the same time felt like it ended well

I read a really cute romance called Morbidly Yours by Ivy Fairbanks about a young widow moving to Ireland for a job and the extremely shy but sexy undertaker next door who has to get married to keep his funeral home family business. It definitely had cheesy moments, but I really liked the characters and their chemistry. I definitely recommend it to any romance readers.

Onyx Storm comes out January 21st BUT there is no approximate release year for book 4. Rebecca Yarros said she is taking a little writing break because things with fans, social media and overall speed of things is exhausting. And with a chronic illness itβs taking a toll on her.
I actually met her last night for the release of her book Variations. She said she likes to go back and forth between contemporary romance and her fantasy stuff. So after onyx Storm, there will be a contemporary romance. But she hasnβt even started it yet. I do not expect a 4th Empyrean book until like 2027 the earliest. π«€ She didnβt say that but I think thatβs a solid guess.
She is super nice. She did a really fantastic interview at the bookstore where it took place.

I read all of Is She Really Going Put With Him today and I adored it. Itβs definitely my favorite romance of the year. Just a really sweet, thoughtful, lovely book.

Some of her children deleted their social media accounts because of fans harassing them for spoilers. Itβs a lot. The positive is that she has the series mapped out. She just has to get it on paper. I will gladly wait for it if it means it will be quality and she will continue to have the ability to write.

I canβt decide what to read next. I sort of want to read another fantasy book. But maybe I will do a contemporary romance instead? Or the next Percy Jackson book since I have never read those? I am a mood reader but I canβt decide what my mood is saying. π

I need someone else to help me figure out if these supposedly mid-30's female characters are realistic or not. I love the book's premise but just can't root for any of the MC so far LOL. All teasing aside, The Stand-in or The Comeback by Lily Chu are fun contemporary romances. She has become one of my favorite authors. ETA clarity ETA#2 I just got my libby notification that Sorry, I'm Late, I Didn't Want to Come just popped up for me. I consider myself an extrovert (I'm not opposed to talking to people waiting in line), but this book still sounded interesting to me.

I settled on Youβve Reached Sam by Dustin Thao but The Santa Cruise sounds good for a holiday read. I will add it to my list.
