It's November! What books are you looking forward to reading? What books did you read last month?

October was a good month quality wise for me, which I very much needed. I finished six books:

-Dinner on Monster Island - all the stars! One of the best books of the year for me.
-So Thirsty - meh, 3 stars because I was hooked on it, but haaaated the main character.
-Audition - 5 disturbing stars to this short horror novel about a search for love gone very wrong
-Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees - 5 stars to this graphic novel that was like is Dexter was done by Richard Scarry
-The Night Guest - 5 stars, it was a quick, weird, creepy read that I finished in a day.
-Home is Where the Bodies Are - 4 stars, a thriller about grieving siblings and a dark family secret.

I am reading Payback is A Witch and Prison Born for my bookclub - no further plans yet for the month, too much of a mood reader.

In reality I’ll probably hunker down with Christmas books the rest of the year lol

October turned out to be a good reading month for me. I finished 10 books, a fair amount were romcoms because I guess that’s where my brain wanted to go and most I rated 4 stars:

Four Weekends and a Funeral - Ellie Palmer

This month I’m already most of the way through Fear the Flames by Olivia Rose Darling and am enjoying it a lot, it’s the first fantasy I’ve actually liked for a while. I’m not sure what I’m reading the rest of the month, my kindle holds are all weeks out and my local library is still offline after a ransomeware attack so the holds system and returns are down

Just started This Summer Will Be Different and my holds for Remarkably Bright Creatures and Long Bright River just came in. So, those should keep me busy for awhile. December will be all Christmas books.

Welcome! This thread became the one regular place I post (which still isn't a lot) once all the babies that brought me here through the Cloth Diapering board grew up and potty trained LOL. I've learned about so many new to me authors and how to use libby on here

Bright Lights, Big Christmas is one of the books I didn't get in time last year that I want to read this year. I'm interested now how I'll rate it after seeing your 2 stars!

I've hit all my challenges. With some family drama and ::waves hand:: the rest of the state of the world, I'm not sure how I'll be able to concentrate on anything much for the next couple of months. Nothing I'm looking forward to.

Spending the Holidays with People I want to Punch in the Throat - 5 stars

This week, I started Life After Power but may not have the heart to finish it now after the election. I'm looking forward to the Katama Bay Thanksgiving book. After that, I'm not sure yet if I'll read the autumn themed Regency Era historical fiction I just checked out on Monday or start Christmas books.

ETA I'm reading aloud an abridged Little Women to my kids because we will be seeing the musical the weekend before Thanksgiving. I don't remember actually reading the book myself when I was younger but know the sad part.

October was so-so.

I enjoyed the following:
The Mesmerist
The Fabled Earth
First Lie Wins

DNF Discovery of Witches, and only made it two chapters into Butcher & Blackbird before putting it back down.

I hope to finish God of the Woods in the next day or two, which I have really enjoyed so far.
I think it helped that I had to bring DS to a band thing last night so had nothing to do but sit there and read for two hours so I got through a lot of it. I knew it wouldn't be good for my mental health to scroll election results to I tried to limit it. This will likely be a weekly thing and as much as I'm dreading the drive, I am looking forward to the uninterrupted reading time. Especially since I too am thinking of a social media break.

I did not read any of the books I intended to read in October, but that's ok. I have so many BOTM books waiting to be read and I just loaded my kindle with Libby holds that all came through.

Aww, that makes me smile even though I know I'll be crying during the show. Our abridged version doesn't have that scene so I need to prep my kids for it in the musical.

Bright Lights, Big Christmas is definitely cozy and cute, but for some reason it just didn't completely work for me. But it is one of those books I might have rated a lot higher if I had read it at a different point in time or something. Hopefully you will enjoy it!

It was like that for me too and I read it at Christmas time. It was just missing something

I’ve already read three in November.

Bethany Joy Lenz’s autobiography was really good and will stick with me. I’m sure that being obsessed with One Tree Hill adds to my love of it.

In my Dreams I Hold A Knife was also really good. I wish there was a little more character development and relationship background but overall I was very entertained.

Lastly, I really Cinnamon Bun Book Store today which was perfect for what I needed today. I liked it better than Pumpkin Spice Cafe.

I’ll probably be reading a lot of happy Christmas books and maybe some fantasy for the foreseeable future.

October was a weird month for me because I was incredibly busy.

I only finished Ashes and the Star Cursed King by Carissa Broadbant. I liked and I am excited for the next book to come out.

I am currently 200 pages into When the Moon Hatched. It’s good but there is a ton of world building at the beginning so it is taking me some time.

I just started The Women and I am really loving it. It sucked me in right away. 

Might be a bit heavy as Kristen Hannah tends to do lol. But the whole theme is women are war heros too, and their stories.
