My kids always had lunch so early in the day that they were ravenous by the time they got home from school. The days that I worked in office & they'd beat me home I'd come home to find chip bags filling the garbage (or left by the couch). At least in high school it's a little bit later and the kindergartener still gets an afternoon snack. The third grader has a snack at after school and is dying by the time we grab him and head home and the middle schooler forgets to eat when he gets home because he beelines for screen time. I try to make him have a snack before screens but he rushes it or skips it if I am not home to make him. And then in the 20 minutes it takes to get dinner together they are a mess. And both are active and need calories in general. I can’t believe how much they eat some days. Last year ds had lunch at 1030 in the morning and he'd often stay after for activities. It was a challenge getting him good food in the afternoon. This year he has 1230 lunch which is so much better except that I can't convince him to eat breakfast. He gets on the bus at 730 so I don't really blame him.

Cher that tripped looked outstanding. It was really amazing. Would do it again. I was living vicariously through every post. I don't know if I could have sat on a net above shark-infested waters, but one can dream... 😂

I think we're going to try to leave ours up! I've been reading a lot about it and ours would be such a hassle to take down and set back up every year I think that's a good plan for you though. I'd do the same! I can't believe how cold the water stays even when it's sunny and warm during the day I'm so jealous y'all were able to enjoy your pools! We started construction on an inground pool in JANUARY (!!!!!!!) and they literally, just this past weekend, filled it with water. Just in time for the temps to start dropping. We live in a warm climate and can probably use it through October, maybe even November but we missed out on an entire summer. And there is still so much work they need to do. Supposedly they're adding the chemicals and turning on the pumps today but I'm not going to hold my breath. It's been delay after excuse after delay and I'm beyond ready to see this project completed. Good luck!! Good thing about ours being above ground is we were able to do it all ourselves/our timeline, haha. Hopefully you can get some swimming in soon! Next year we plan on doing a deck so I'm so excited about that part, it's gonna be a gamechanger

I don't know if I could have sat on a net above shark-infested waters, but one can dream... 😂 I’ve swam with them twice! Once on this trip and it happened organically. I was swimming in front of our room and saw a shark next to me. I was so excited, I ran back to tell my kids and MH was like, “ummmmm, maybe don’t tell them that.” So I went back in the water to look for more sharks. I understand something is wrong with me.

We live in Colorado and last year we had a foot of snow on Halloween so we definitely need ours down before frost 😅🥲 I wish we had been able to enjoy it more but we were sick and gone a lot this summer. Our next move is looking like Nebraska and I feel like we may use it even less there 😅

We are in our 4th week of charter/homeschool and finally in a good routine. 1st and 4th grader. It's National Parks Pass year for us and I made my reservation for Yosemite in two weeks! I was just there last weekend. Weather was perfection. The falls were low/non existent (not shocking given it was august). Thanks for the reminder! We went to a Yosemite art exhibit over the weekend, and I told my DD we will see waterfalls when we go 🤦♀️. Thankfully, she will just roll with it, and we can make a trip out again in the spring to actually see them.

We are in week 4 and it’s already insanely busy. We have extra events on the calendar every week between now and October break. I had no idea how busy just middle school band could make you. High school band next year will make this all seem like nothing though. DD is thriving. Being busy is good for her! She loves all her teachers this year and is genuinely happy. Going to try to enjoy it because this year is going to fly. I keep telling people out of all the activities my kids have done; band is the most intense and most serious. It is not a game, LOL. I have never been so glad my kid quit.

DS has been back for 3 weeks. Last year of middle school. Had a little bit of a rough spot- a classmate passed away. During the announcement someone mistook DS's reaction as mocking the kid who died, so that was super. One kid pushed him down on the walk home from school the next day. He was a bit of a mess for the next week and things were getting said in the halls/lunch/during PE. I am impressed by the admin/counseling staff at the school. They have such a good set up for handling things. Obviously it won't work in every case, but it led to a pretty good outcome in this one. So we are hoping that the long weekend gave everyone something else to focus their energy on. The counselor also gave us some info on some high school focus programs that might be good for DS so we will see what we decide there. I am sorry to hear this. I went through this last year with my DS. His best friend's brother was hit by a car on the first day of school right in front of my DS's school. It was horrible. Anyway, the school counselor was great during this time as well. I hope things get better for him.

I’m a planner but like let me get through the rest of middle school first. I keep telling DD I fully support her plans and goals with music but don’t close yourself on other interests too early either because you just never know. I do think she will stick with it. Music has been her favorite since the days of Little Einsteins. They get to play with the high school band next week and she’s so excited.

Both the kid and I have batshit crazy allergies which are making our days hell. Ragweed can get fucked. September is always my worst allergy month, even though I do have them year round.

So I feel for DD2s first grade teacher. Our area of the state has been affected with massive budget cuts (my district that I teach in is suing the state because of it). The girls district also has the budget cut. Anyway DD2 is in a class of 30 kids. For FIRST grade!
My class sizes are also massive-25 kindergarteners and 30 second graders.
It is insane.
But DD2 at her orientation was impressed about how shiny the floors are in the building. 😂

I paid off my mortgage today! So now that money can go to college next year. Congratulations! Every time I start to get jealous when I see someone building a new house (which had been our plan before buying an even older house), I remind myself that we are so close to doing this. And then I pray that the well, septic, and furnace keep working.

I would like to discontinue our CEO's email access. She forwarded me an email that I was clearly CC'ed on, plus we both got it twice because it went to a group email, then I got both copies again when she sent both copies to our AP person (who was also on the group email).
I have 6 copies of that email. Thanks. I should be set.

Not to jinx what’s happening in my house but dd did her homework yesterday all on her own. I didn’t have to ask or remind or anything. It’s never happened before.

10th grader is negotiating to let him stay home and skip first period (swimming) so he can finish homework for second period, which he didn't do last night though he had ample opportunity.
Natural consequences and all that, but yeah, that's how school is going for us today.
Oh and the 5th grader has a sore throat after two weeks back at school. Cool, cool.
