We’re on our second full week. Grades 5th and 2nd here. I can’t believe DD is in her last year of elementary school.

GhoatMonket that’s such a hard situation. I hope everyone is supported and able to process the loss. Just an awful tragedy at that age.

I swear I get more emotional about the kids I felt were so little that are in 5th this year than I did about DS being in 5th last year. Your DD is not in 5th grade, I refuse to acknowledge that.

3rd week here. My 10th grader canNOT manage to get himself up on his own. He literally sleeps through multiple alarms going off in his ear. He's supposed to have a 10 o'clock bedtime on school nights, and while he goes up to his room then, I'm pretty sure he's staying up much later, but I can't force him to sleep, and it seems insane to try to make him go to bed earlier. But I would very much like him to learn to wake himself up.
Activity schedule for both kids are in full swing. I luckily realized yesterday that along with Tues. being crazy days to begin with (I have to pick DD up from school to get her to therapy on time, then go straight from therapy to dance, but it's just a class she is the 'student helper' for the littlest kids, so it's a short class, so I can't really go home and back, so I ended up going to grab fast food (blah) for dinner and back), I had scheduled ds's annual well-check for the same time, so I had to ask the inlaws to help because I can't be in 2 places at once but didn't want to reschedule anything.
At ds's appt., the Dr. told me about getting him a physical for the driver's permit test (it's more than 6 months out, so she couldn't do it then or it wouldn't be valid). And she asked me how I felt about that, and I was like, equal parts excited to not be the only one shuttling these kids to all the things, and terrified.

My DS starts hockey on Thursday and it’s skate trials. Reading the format and the grading, it’s intense and I just want to tell them to skip it and put him in whatever the lowest ranked division is because he’s brand new. The 5 skate session with up and down grading seems like a lot of pressure I hate how much sports/extracurricular activity pressure is placed on kids in general these days. I had to actively hunt to find a dance studio for my daughter that wasn't super intense. So many had the attitude of if you haven't been dancing ballet since 3, you shouldn't even bother, which is just ridiculous. I feel like we found a unicorn with my DD’s dance studio. She was 7 when she started and I called several places that didn’t really have beginner options at that age…for a second grader. The studio she ended up going to is amazing. Positive and fun while still having awesome teachers with high(but reasonable) expectations. She is in high school and still loves dancing. No burn out or anything.

I’ve been purposefully been telling dd how well she is doing. So far she has gotten up every day (earlier than me even) and is ready on time and is actually turning in assignments.
I am really hoping this keeps up

DS2 fell asleep at 5:00 and slept until 6 this morning. Kindergarten wears a kid out.
The teenagers said they had a good day but DD was complaining about a group of boys that were talking sh*t about one of her friends within earshot of her, right in the classroom. I told DD she's welcome to flip them the bird or flat out tell them to shut the fuck up. No one would expect it from her. I don't expect that she'll actually do it, but kind of wish she would. Why do people still think they should comment on someone's body size? Mind your own damn business.

We're in the swing. 7th grader playing volleyball and 10th grader playing volleyball. I really feel for my 10th grader on game nights. They have to stay for all three games (fresh, JV (her team), and varsity) and it makes for really long days! Thankfully they do get fed a nice dinner so that's one thing we don't have to worry about. But she was gone yesterday from 6am and didn't get home until 10:30. She has a ride from an upperclassman so I haven't even spoken to her since Monday night (saw her on the court last night but we can't chat.) The pressure on these student athletes is no joke! Luckily my girls' games only overlap a few times and VB is a relatively short season. Over end of Oct-mid Nov depending on how they do. And it's a really fun, fast paced sport to watch.

We’re late to DS’s first day of his MDO program 😂
He also peed on his shorts and shirt I had picked out so we had to have a wardrobe change.
ETA: peed on accident when he was going in the potty due to an aiming/shirt got in the way issue, I realize that sentence sounds weird now , ha

Today is my first day as full on taxi driver mom.
8am Take DD to school 8:30 take DS1 to achool 2:30 Pick up DS1 4:05 pick up DD 4:45 take DS1 to karate
Doesn’t seem like all that much when I type it out, lol. DS’s activities are on the other side of town though which is annoying (and completely my fault 😂). Also thankfully MDO and karate is only Monday and Wednesday.
Anyhow, I can’t wait until DD is in high school and can finally take the bus (I’ve been waiting YEARS!)

School starts tomorrow for DD, and there’s already been a lot of drama with class assignments. Because of a combination of funding cuts and retirements leading to a shuffling of teachers, all of the 4th grade students with an IEP (which includes DD who has dyslexia and ADHD) who were previously in an ICT classroom were placed in a classroom with the Dual Language program students, with just one teacher (no co-teacher), with no SpEd training, who has a reputation for being very strict, homework heavy, and a discipline/ accountability style of teaching that isn’t necessarily the best for many Special Ed Kids. All of the gen Ed kids were placed in a classroom with a beloved teacher who everyone describes as “magical.” All of this was announced Friday at 5PM.
But, after a weekend of emailing, it seems like we now have a solution that everyone’s ok with. I’m cautiously optimistic about the upcoming school year.

School started on 8/23 here. My son is in 2nd grade, and my daughter is now in 6th grade. So far middle school has been good, and she enjoys going. She chose to sign up for band and the instrument she picked is a trumpet!

It's getting cooler in the evenings and mornings (50s overnight, 60s in the morning) and I've got my sweatshirt and thick socks on and every year I wonder how I am going to survive winter. I'm really enjoying the chill in the air, but then I'm a crazy person that also likes the winter/snow.* *caveat being that we do not live in the tundra, I would probably feel differently if we had months upon months of multiple feet of snow I do love the weather this time of year and enjoy being back to hot-coffee weather.

My boys started last Wednesday. My oldest started Middle School which I thought would be a more stressful transition but he seems to be loving it. We will see if he can maintain his after school routine and get his homework done before other things so that when hockey starts next month he will stay on top of things.
My youngest started third grade and he was bummed at first that he didn't get he teacher he thought he wanted but after a few days he is realizing that he loves his teachers and is off to a good start.
I am really wishing we had space for them to have their own rooms because it's hard to get the third grader up and not wake my older son who can sleep in for an extra hour.
Need to figure out more high calorie filling snacks for both kids because they are starving every afternoon before dinner you would think they hadn't eaten all day. And sports will just make it harder to fill them up.

We're only on day 2 of little kid in a new class at the same daycare and I sent an inquiry to a new daycare. In hindsight, I should have maybe done this over the summer and moved him for the new "school year". I could tell he doesn't love his current daycare but I don't know if transitioning to a new places will be worse.

DS2 and I are deep cleaning the upstairs today. I did downstairs yesterday and soon my whole house will be sparkling again. I have 2 bags of stuff to take to various locations (some clothes for my nephew, some donations, some for the animal shelter) and we will do that later on our way to the park.
We have a soccer game later this evening. It’s a perfect day for it!

We need to figure out what we're doing to close our pool. First year having it and we're in that weird in between time where it's too cold to swim but I still think a little too early to close it. So basically we're cleaning and running a pump on something no one is using right now 🤣 also our first year with a pool. we're in the process of draining ours since it's supposed to start getting into the 40s at night before too much longer and I want to get it fully dried before we put it away, mostly since we didn't get the ground fully level so we want to take our time and do that before we set it back up next year. We're supposed to have several 90° days next week but the temps drop to the 60s and 50s at night so the water is too cold to even swim. On top of high risk pregnancy and I could end up having this baby way sooner than anticipated so we want to do it while we still have both of us able bodied.

I think we're going to try to leave ours up! I've been reading a lot about it and ours would be such a hassle to take down and set back up every year I think that's a good plan for you though. I'd do the same! I can't believe how cold the water stays even when it's sunny and warm during the day

I hope we can get it fully dry before it frosts at night or I'm scared it'll mold 🤢

The days that I worked in office & they'd beat me home I'd come home to find chip bags filling the garbage (or left by the couch). At least in high school it's a little bit later and the kindergartener still gets an afternoon snack.

The third grader has a snack at after school and is dying by the time we grab him and head home and the middle schooler forgets to eat when he gets home because he beelines for screen time. I try to make him have a snack before screens but he rushes it or skips it if I am not home to make him. And then in the 20 minutes it takes to get dinner together they are a mess. And both are active and need calories in general. I can’t believe how much they eat some days.

We started construction on an inground pool in JANUARY (!!!!!!!) and they literally, just this past weekend, filled it with water. Just in time for the temps to start dropping. We live in a warm climate and can probably use it through October, maybe even November but we missed out on an entire summer. And there is still so much work they need to do. Supposedly they're adding the chemicals and turning on the pumps today but I'm not going to hold my breath. It's been delay after excuse after delay and I'm beyond ready to see this project completed.
