My library hold came through for If Something Happens to Me but I got a few chapters in and just wasn't feeling it so put it on pause for now. Feel free to tell me to abandon it or go back to it. I switched to Just for the Summer. Life is heavy right now and I need something that will pull me right in and entertain me. Abby Jimenez doesn't fail. I liked both of these! Just For the Summer isn’t exactly light but I loved it. One of my top 5 books this year. Abby Jimenez can’t miss for me either. If Something Happens to Me was a fun read but definitely took awhile to get into. I’d go back to it but there’s zero shame in stopping something you aren’t enjoying.

I finally read Matthew Perry's memoir and it's so heartbreaking, especially the last few pages where he is so full of hope for the future.
Elsewhere, I read Elin Hildebrand's final novel, appropriately titled, Swan Song, and it was can't put down.
Although I think she is hedging retirement just a bit by calling it her final Nantucket novel and apparently, she's going to be collaborating with one of her daughters on a few books.

MelanieCarmichael, it seems odd that she'd retire right as one of her books becomes a miniseries. Or maybe she just wants to enjoy her success for a bit and live her life.

I finished The Silent Patient yesterday and I'm disappointed. It had such a promising plot and then the twist made zero sense given the established narrative. Maybe I missed something? Sigh. Good audio narration, though. You're in good company. I was super interested for most of it and then the last bit made me so annoyed and angry while finishing it.

I read that a few months ago and felt the same way. Even sadder knowing now about what was written about his final days. I finished Ashley Audrain's "The Whispers" this week. It was not as good as The Push and the ending frustrated me. I actually like The Silent Patient! Part of the wrap up did seem to get a bit ridiculous though.

I don't remember if this has been discussed before but for the hardcover books you own are you leaving book jackets/sleeves on or tossing them? Or do you remove the jackets from the books and then keep a stack of jackets somewhere because you can't commit one way or the other? (this is the compromise my brain is making) I take jackets off to read them put them back on. Kids books I chuck them, usually, but for mine I do keep them.

I finished Dark Restraint (Dark Olympus #7) and really enjoyed it, but probably my least favourite of the series so far (I just didn't like the main male character). I'm sad there will only be three more in this series, but I am so excited to see how the overarching story ends.
I am currently reading Hopeless by Elsie Silver (Chestnut Springs #5) and love it - this series is one of my favourites.

I finished Pestilence. It was ok. The MMC is literally the worst during most of the book so I don’t love him. I will continue the series at some point.
I am currently in the middle of the Crown of Nyaxia series. I read the first book. I am now reading the novella.

I am re-reading Me Before You. I read it so long ago and had no idea it became a 3 part series, so I may continue into the other books. I haven’t decided yet.

Book jackets come off when it’s time to read, but I replace them with a soft cloth book cover I bought from Etsy, because ew to fingerprints/oils/stuff getting on the actual bookcover, no thank you.

I don't want to revive the August reading thread but whoever said they wanted to know how I felt about Hey, Hun when I finished...well, I'm not done yet but yikes. I'm not sure if it's her or Rejuvinant that is still making me cringe. oh that was me!! And yes, it got very cringe about half way through and I feel like it’s both of them, even though she’s reflecting on how shitty her behaviour was I felt like she was still making excuses for it. I looked it up after and she sold Roden and Fields, I wonder if places like lularoe were even worse I finally just gave up at about page 250. I don't have it in me to read 4 more chapters.

I finished Hopeless, the last in the Chestnut Springs series and I loved it. I'm sad this series is done, but I have her other two series on my shelf!
Next up is That Night In the Library by Eva Jurczyk - a locked room type mystery apparently.

I sped through The Perfect Couple yesterday since I want to watch the show. I really liked it. Some of hers are real misses with me, so I'm glad I enjoyed this one. I haven't read any others in her Nantucket series so now I'm wondering if I should.

And I finished Runaway Bride and Prejudice last night.
I started So This Is War, which I had already started and left sitting in my Kindle planning to go back to it later. The MFC I find really obnoxious, hence my ditching it for things I was more excited about. It's a bummer because I've enjoyed the rest of the series, but this one isn't hitting the same. I'll pick away at it so I can finish the series, but I also plan to start the third Gods and Monsters book today too, which will inevitably suck me in and have my putting So This Is War aide again, I'm sure.

Nonfiction- I just finished Con/Artist by Tony Tetro. He’s considered one of the world’s greatest art forgers. I absolutely loved it! Also finished Bared to You by Sylvia Day (very very spicy; that was the point.) The God of the Woods- loved it Next up is Never Lie.

I’m about halfway through the Rom-Commers. So far I love it. I am not sure why I waited so long on this one. The description didn’t sound interesting to me but I was wrong. Very cute.

I finished Lady Tan’s Circle of Women for my book club the other day (this was for August’s pick but I couldn’t make the meeting, so I took my time). It was really good. Now who knows if I’ll be able to do September’s pick. I can’t find it at the library or on my kindle right now.
I’m about 90 pages into The Mostly True Story of Tanner and Louise. It’s from the author of The Invisible Husband of Frick Island which was a book I read years ago that I didn’t expect to love as much as I did. I’ve had this for awhile and finally decided to open it up two nights ok. I am a MESS when it comes to reading this year, and now I’m entering the worst part of the year for me for reading, because I get so focused on holiday craziness. This year I’ve been deep in the political rabbit hole and while sometimes it’s making me excited about things, it’s often stressing me out and taking me away from other things that bring me joy. I’m definitely a paperwhite person, but the other night, I was like I cannot keep doing this to myself and literally just forced myself to grab SOMETHING off my bookshelf and that was what I picked. So far so good.
With reading, when I’m good, I’m GREAT, but when I’m not good, it’s nearly impossible to do it.
I miss it here ❤️

junch817 , sorry to hear that!! I got a little lucky that I didn't go down until DD1 was just about going back to school and I got on paxlovid quickly, which helped prevent things from getting too cranky. Somehow DD2 and DH made it through unscathed! I will add I said thank you library card several times

Summer was crazy busy so I dropped off reading for a bit but just finished Johannes Cabel the necromancer as a fun quick read. I enjoyed it and now am reading More Perfect which I REALLY like. It's a modern scifi retelling of Orpheus, which is fun because I also just finished KAOS on Netflix which was also a modern retelling of Greek mythology with Orpheus and Euridyce's story being front and center.

I finished The Rom-commers last night. I really enjoyed it. Katherine Center is another can't miss for me. As a bonus it is on Kindle Unlimited which is good because I don't think my library hold was ever going to come through!
Started Falling. Since I liked Worst Case Scenario I guess I need to go back and read her other two!
