Add me to the list of kids whose back to school date has been pushed due to natural disaster. I am over it and am quite done with parenting and WFH full time. The oldest just wants to start his senior year so he can be done. The high school freshman is loving every extra day.

My girls started school today! 1st and 5th. DS is waitlisted for preschool through the district, but I’m hoping something opens up in the next few weeks. 🤞
I took DS to his 3 year well child appt, and then hit up Costco, which was a shit show. But it’s done lol.

My kids actually have a husband/wife duo this year lol. They are new to the school. The 1st grade teacher is a PhD, and her husband is teaching the Spanish portion for 5th grade (DD1’s home room/English teacher is the same one she had last year bc 4th and 5th switch halfway through the day for different subjects).

We found out he is not in the same class as his best friend, which I have been prepping him for. I must have done a really good job because he seems totally fine and I think I am more disappointed than he is. This happened to DD2 this year! She seemed okay with it, especially since they still have recess at the same time. She does have one pretty good friend in her class, just not her bestie.

I haven't bothered to reach out to other parents to find out who else is in his class. They will still have same recess, too, and they ride the bus together. Hopefully, we can have some play dates outside of school, too. I know he'll make new friends but I really like the family.

Our middle school doesn’t have lockers so backpacks are very important.

My kid is so, so tired of me. Which honestly same. I love her dearly but so much together time.
She was supposed to volunteer with band this afternoon, come home, and then go back in the evening for a NJHS thing. She texted me awhile ago and said she was just staying the entire time and pick her up after the last event. So 8 hours at school on a non school day, lol.
I mean I’m fine with it. Spent the afternoon getting appointments scheduled and other things I’ve been putting off.

DS started middle school this morning. I would like another couple weeks of summer, if I'm honest. I'm never ready for school to start!

anyone know a good app to track nursing? That won't make a 2nd time mom so crazy with the stats that seems like a 1st time mom Cause dil keeps texting about the stats she's seeing, it is normal for baby to nurse 5 times in 12 hours?

I used huckleberry and liked it alright. 5 times in 12 hours though??? I forget how old this baby is exactly but super new, so honestly that doesn’t even seem as often as my newborns nursed. I wish there wasn’t so much of a push for schedule and is this too much or not enough with newborns. I wish there was more of a push for go with the flow. Babies don’t know schedules. I get it’s hard when you’re trying to do other things besides raise a newborn, but there’s no wrong in just feeding a newborn on demand whenever the hell they want.

I know and agree, at that age it was a blur of feed sleep change diaper snd repeat ad nauseum. She seems so focused on the numbers from whatever app she's using. One time the question was 9 latchings in 9 hours. I was like ok each Feed at this age nurse on both sides so that was only 4 feeds in 9 hours so every 2 hours sounds normal to me lol

I fed my babies probably every hour when they were that little, but I’ve also mostly done block feeding (from one side at a time) because I tend to be an oversupplier (very thankful for that) and couldn’t get them to eat more than from one side. Anyhoo I hope she figures out something that makes her feel less out of control. That ages is definitely the hardest imo, at least as far as nursing goes.

My kid was tiny and I didn’t have a lot of milk and she ate every 1.5 hours for the first 4 months and then moved to every 2 hours for the last of the year. My niece is 4 months and has just moved to every 3.5 hours

AmyG is she pumping too? My doctor had me pump to show that I wasn’t getting as much milk as I probably thought which is why dd would eat more. The constant nursing is what made me stop and do formula we were already supplementing with anyway Is she worried she is feeding to much or just exhausted?

My kid started 3rd grade today. We got teacher assignments over the weekend and found out that our teacher is leaving for another role within the district. I have requested a meeting with the principal asap and to be moved to a different class. We already went through this in 1st with subs for half the year, and it was a disaster for my kid.
On a scale of 1 to burn it down, how hard is it okay to push? I’ve tried to trust the process and the professionals previously, but I regret that now after the 1st grade experience.

I would definitely ask and let them know what your past experience was. But they may not be able to make the move happen radio wise

AmyG, reading through your summary the possibility that DIL is dealing with some (or a lot) of post partum anxiety jumped out at me, especially the hyper fixation on nursing. Has the pediatrician expressed any concern about weight gain? Can DIL reach out to a lactation consultant to see about checking in for latch issues, do a weighted feed, and discuss everything going on and getting her and the baby seen by someone trained to spot PPA? Or maybe I am just projecting what I now know was PPA with both my kids to your DIL. I can’t help with apps. When my kids were brand new we were discharged from the hospital with a paper to keep track of wet and poop diapers.

I would Burn it down politely. 3rd grade is a transition year from the assisted early elementary learning to more independent learning that is the basis of grades 4-12. It’s not a year to fuck around with.

Fortunately they are generally really versatile at that age.

I wouldn't go full burn it down yet. I would email the request to all involved: teacher, guidance, AP and Principal. Trying to accomplish your needs in writing is probably more efficient and you have a record of the conversation. Ask if they have a replacement already, are they long term or a sub? Find out the answers, explain your concerns and go from there. Also, check your district's website and see if the job is posted, just to verify what they tell you. (All our job postings are public) At our school we get further with a "firm, friendly" approach. We have a couple parents that go full burn it down every year and admin just ignores them now. Play the long game.

DS had three elementary years with long term subs. His 1st grade teacher had a baby, 2nd grade teacher had a heart attack (and then it was covid). He was fine but out for a while. 5th grade teacher had a medical issue and was out a few months. None of it was ideal but IDK what the school could have done differently about it. Transitioning back and forth was difficult but also a good learning experience for DS.

We have auditors auditing things they don't seem to fully understand which is creating issues that should not be issues. The first group understood the explanation last week but the second group just isn't grasping it yet.
It is going to be a long week.
