It was incredible listening to the announcers for the W 1500 m seamlessly use they/them pronouns for Nikki Hiltz. Hiltz identifies as transgender and nonbinary. They are local to me so I’m extra proud of their performance and being a role model on the big stage. Yes! We are big track fans in my house, and not all the announcers do so well. I think it was the US trials where one of the announcers used the wrong pronoun repeatedly despite the other announcer emphatically using they several times to try to correct on air. It was ugly. Nikki is a great follow on Instagram. Their joy at just being an Olympian is so beautiful. And it’s even sweeter that they are looking stronger than ever at just the right time & have a really good shot at medalling, I think. |

I don’t know whether to out this here or in the UO thread t… I think Breaking is not a sport and I think it’s strange that it’s in the Olympics.
No, I can’t articulate why it’s different than some other arts making their way in. No, I’m not saying it’s easy and I absolutely cannot do it. But I don’t think it’s a sport.
I am open to being talked out of this but that’s where I stand after seeing it for the first time.

Perhaps because I missed the beginning where they explained scoring. I plan to try again with the replay. |

Like… she read a book about breakdancing so got to go to the Olympics?? |

I’m always curious about how that kind of thing works They will do test runs of different sports - sometimes they have a couple of Olympic cycles, sometimes it's just the one. The most memorable I can think of is baseball/softball that got a couple of Olympics in the mud 2000's I believe. |

They took away Jordan Chiles’ bronze in floor on appeal! Apparently her coach’s inquiry had to be submitted by one minute after the conclusion, and the inquiry was submitted at 1 minute 4 seconds. What an absolute clusterfuck.

Super Saturday has pulled me in today. Women’s soccer, track & field with the 4x400 relays which are my fave, the high jump “jump off” now basketball starting.
I feel bad for Jordan and the other gymnast, how this whole situation has been handled is disappointing and frustrating. If the scoring would have been correct in the first place it could have prevented all this.

The process to get in and stay compliant isn't a minor thing. I have issues with the IOC and it's model, but sometimes their hoops aren't terrible and something from being an ongoing issue. |

Jordan, Ana, and Sabrina all had cases for bronze. Sabrina had an OOB that was not actually out on replay but they only submitted her D score in the inquiry not the neutral deduction for OOB. Then this 4 second BS when they accepted it on site. It is all not a good look. Personally I think all 3 should share bronze |

Oh wow, it’s amazing that Imane is doing that. It would be totally understandable if she wanted to leave it all behind her, but if some of these assholes can learn that actions have consequences 👏
I’m so glad Sha’carri is leaving Paris with a gold medal along with the rest of her team. She KILLED that anchor leg.

We just watched the women’s breaking and I loved it. I don’t see what was awkward about it but I do agree that it is odd to deem that a sport but not other dance styles.
I’m really annoyed with the gymnastics judges. They made a series of errors causing so much hurt and drama. To ask someone to return their medal days later because of their mistake is really awful. And I feel for the original named winner. That was horrible too. What a mess.

The USA v Brasil soccer match was crazy yesterday. Had a great time, heard a lot of shit talking in Portuguese that I don't think other fans realized I could understand 😂😂😂 And then had a great evening watching the USa v France men's basketball game with the ever lovely swellist !!  |
