I finished the audio book of The Flatshare and I absolutely loved it. It's so cute, and I just discovered it was made into a series starring Jessica Brown Findlay (aka Lady Sybil) and I must find a way to watch it.
omg apparently Sophie Thompson is in it too, AND it's on Prime Video!!!

I finished Heir of Fire yesterday and really enjoyed it. Now I need to track down Queen of Shadows . I might get that one on my kobo in time for my holidays on Friday, we'll see. I am halfway through Off the the Races (Elsie Silver) and loving that one as well. I have the 2nd book so I am excited to keep that going. I bought the versions with the new covers since I love that style more, but it means I won't get the next ones until like November and December, boooo. But I still have the Chestnut Springs series to get into so that's exciting. Im also well into the final Harry Hole and I'll be happy to wrap that series up until new ones come out.

BOTM finally revealed their prize for completing their reading challenge this year. It’s a bold choice, that’s for sure!

If you like Elsie Silver you'd probably like the Bootleg Springs series by Lucy Score and Claire Kingsley if you haven't read them yet. Very similar vibe to the Chestnut Springs book, but with an overarching story line that runs through all the books in the series and culminates as the main storyline in the final book. It was really good, I enjoyed them a lot.

Oh yeah, I came back here to post that when I went onto the Kobo site, they have some Sarah J Maas book bundles (whole series and stuff). There is one called Beginners Pack and it just has book 1 of ACOTAR, book 1 of TOG and book 1 of CC.
This is the single most diabolical way to sell these books! lol what are they thinking!

But no instruction on the order to read in? Reading book one of CC first would be confusing. Maybe it is just me but I read that before I got fully into TOG, but after I had read all of ACOTAR and I still felt overwhelmed by the world building in that book. It felt a lot better getting to CC2 after all of TOG.

I stayed up late and finished CC3. I am officially out of SJM books to read. She has more coming, yeah? I'm curious to see her continue to draw all of her worlds together.
Anyways, I'm going to palette cleanse with a handful of romance books before reading Reckless.

Oh wow. Sweet Valley Kids got me over my fear of reading, it sounds silly to say but those books had such an impact on my life.

I finished Husbands and Lovers yesterday and really liked it. It was my first Beatriz Williams book. I need to go back and read some of her older works. Started Sandwich last night and I’m already like 35% into it. Will be a quick read. I just finished Husbands and Lovers too and I LOVED it. I've read several by Beatriz Williams and really like her work - but I will say this one felt a little different. Granted, it's been a while since I've read one of hers so maybe I'm misremembering but the writing just felt different but not in a bad way.

My Goodreads app was glitchy, so I updated it, which made it even worse. Reinstalling the app and re-logging in hasn’t helped. So that’s swell. I remember a time when it wasn’t owned by Amazon!

I loved the Sweet Valley books. I started with the SV Twins and then moved on to SVH. I didn’t realize the Twins books were a spin-off.

Anyways, I'm going to palette cleanse with a handful of romance books before reading Reckless. She said her next book will be an acotar book. I *think* there will be a new series based on Norse mythology and she said way down the line there is another CC book she is thinking about.

I've read 20, plus DNFed Gone Girl and Where the Crawdads Sing because I couldn't get into them (unpopular opinion I know, backed up by this list). I've also read a few books by Adiche, but not Americanah, so it reminded me to check that out. I'm surprised Project Hail Mary made it but not The Martian. I liked both, but I'm surprised people liked the former more and the latter didn't make the list. And I went to add Demon Copperhead to my kindle wishlist at the library website, as it's been recommended to me by approximately everyone I know who likes to read. And it was just available to borrow? I was not expecting that, and I've got a little pileup of loans I suddenly have to read quite quickly.

Not a lot of five star reads recently, and looking back at my four stars, it is mostly "better than a three but probably not a four either" stuff.
Exceptions have been The Indian Lake trilogy by Stephen Graham Jones. His stuff is not for the faint of heart, reminds me of Grady Hendrix. On the opposite side of the genre spectrum, I just finished Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries. Well written cozy fantasy.

I read It Started With A Book by Camilla Isley yesterday. The concept was fun but the execution wasn't super well done. I've liked a lot of her other books, I wish this one was better. It was a quirky enough read to hold my attention though. I have a few more romance books to pick from today now.

I’ve got a trip planned into the Appalachian mountains next month. Can anyone think of good reads that are set in Appalachia? I’ll take any genre except non-fiction.

I finally got around to finishing Funny Story last night. I liked it, gave it 4 stars.
Kind of made me want to visit the other side of the lake and go to Michigan.

I’ve read 5 on that list and probably DNF’d just as many. Some of them are just too boring. A good 10-15 are chillin on my TBR. I’ll get to them someday 😂

Oh wow. Sweet Valley Kids got me over my fear of reading, it sounds silly to say but those books had such an impact on my life. Not silly at all. And as far as being impactful, I still remember Regina Morrow and what happened to her, and I know for many of you, that's all I need say. IYKYK. I've re-read many of these books during the first years of Covid and in the last several months, I've been listening to the Double Love podcast which have very hilarious, snarky takes on the books.
