It's July! What books did you read in June? What are you looking forward to starting this month? Are there any new (for you) authors that you've tried out recently and enjoyed?

I read 17 in June.
The 24th Hour 2.5⭐️ The Heart Forger 4⭐️ The Demon of Unrest 4⭐️ Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore 4⭐️ Shelterwood4⭐️ Bad Blood 4.5⭐️ Exit Strategy (MurderBot) 5⭐️ Home (MurderBot) 4⭐️ Sophie Go’s Lonely Hearts Club 3.5⭐️ Darling Girls 4.5⭐️ The Shadowglass4⭐️ The Unwedding 3.5⭐️ The Wager 4⭐️ Middle of the Night 3.5⭐️ Love in the Time of Cholera 3⭐️ The Return of Ellie Black 3.5⭐️ The Last Murder at the End of the World 4.5⭐️
Martha Wells is pretty new to me. I love the MurderBot series so far. I’m getting annoyed at the line at the library for the 5th book. Libby says it will be 24 weeks. I’m sure it won’t actually be that long because they are short books, but still.

I read ten books in June, all SJM books. July will likely be much of the same, but I should wrap up her full catalog before the month is over and get some other authors in.
I read all five ACOTAR books, House of Sky and Breath, Assassin's Blade, and the first three TOG books. I've made a dent in Queen of Shadows so far already too.

I only read one book in June and I technically finished it this morning 🫣
Family Lore by Elizabeth Acevedo. 4.5 stars. It was really great.
I have a long road trip business trip coming up so hoping to knock out a few audiobooks next week to make up for June’s poor showing

I read 8 books in June which is almost unheard of for me. I had already read FW and IF last year but I’m counting them. I re-read them and took notes for my presentation on Sunday.

Bumped the wrong thread this morning because WTF month is this? 😂 So I’ll just quote myself here. I had a bunch of holds arrive at once, so I really applied myself the past couple weeks. I think The Last Love Note was my favorite of these. It took a chapter or two to get into it, but then I flew through it. However, it was a rare streak of new releases where I actually really enjoyed all of them. I was glad to have books to distract myself from the recent news cycles. My next is Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin for a book club.

June reads:
Darling Girls 4* The Return of Ellie Black 4* The Drowning Woman 4* Summers at the Saint 4* Swan Song 3* Summer Romance DNF The Housemaid is Watching DNF
I will probably finish Summer Romance at some point but haven’t been in a rom-com mood.
I have The Haters and The Best Lies on my July list plus a lot to catch up on from the last few months.
Teen read book edition:
DD has been reading like crazy this summer! So far she’s read the entire Legend series (loved it), Red Queen book 1 (not her favorite), and now is reading Shatter Me (likes it). She’s also asking to read Fourth Wing and I think I’m going to let her. There are a lot worse things a 13 year old could do.

I’m reading Powerless and Swan Song right now and listening to The Anxious Generation

In case you want to jump on getting a hold on it. I don't think it technically releases until Thursday though. At least, that's the date I had marked in my Google calendar.

I only finished 9 in June, which is low for me. But had several 4 star picks in there.
The Vacation (John Marrs) - 4 stars The Paradise Problem (Christina Lauren) - 4 stars If Something Happens to Me (Alex Finlay) - 2 stars The Guncle Abroad (Steven Rowley) - 3 stars Flawless (Elsie Silver) - 3 stars One Perfect Couple (Ruth Ware) - 4 stars The Light Pirate (Lily Brooks-Dalton) - 4 stars The Housemaid is Watching (Freida McFadden) - 4 stars The Mystery Guest (Nita Prose) - 3 stars
I seem to be in the minority with the latest Housemaid. Most of what I'm seeing on booktok is people feeling very meh about it, and I saw a DNF up thread. I liked it, but I've also liked nearly all of her books.

Here's my June round-up:
The Coworker by Freida McFadden - 3 stars Do Not Disturb by Freida McFadden (audio) - 3.5 stars Ashes & the Star-Cursed King (Crowns of Nyaxia #2) by Carissa Broadbent - 4 stars The Mysterious Affair at Styles (Poirot #1) by Agatha Christie (audio) - 3.5 stars The Will of the Many by James Naughton - 3 stars A Murderous Relation (Veronica Speedwell #5) by Deanna Raybourn - 4 stars An Unexpected Peril (Veronica Speedwell #6) by Deanna Raybourn - 4 stars Everyone on this Train is a Suspect by Benjamin Stevenson (audio) - 4 stars Two Twisted Crowns (Shepherd Kind #2) by Rachel Gillig - 4.5 stars An Impossible Impostor (Veronica Speedwell #7) by Deanna Raybourn - 4 stars
Currently reading the next Veronica Speedwell, listening to Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter (it's like 20 hours omg). I have Part of Your World by Abby Jimenez and The Only one Left by Riley Sager waiting for me at the library. Also still trying to get through the first Zodiac Academy on KU...

I only read three books in June but I’m counting that as a win since I was also taking a 5 week applied stats class last month. Plus they were all good reads!
Two twisted crowns ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Weyward ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2 How to end a love story ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I’m about 75% through the poppy war. It’s dragging a bit but I’ll probably try the second in the series.

I like powerless so far even though it’s not my typical genre. It was recommended by my hair dresser.

My reading is also much slower than last year, but I finished 5. The Phoenix Crown and the last MD were my favorite. I'm a quarter through The Rom-commers and enjoying it! Also about half way through our Wives Under the Sea.

In June I read 12 books thanks to being off work and recovering:
The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah The Myth of Normal by Gabor Mate A Dream Called Home by Reyna Grande Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand The Bootleggers Daughter by Nadine Nettmann The Curious Secrets of Yesterday by Namrata Patel Good Girl Bad Blood by Holly Jackson Magic Hour by Kristin Hannah Veridian Sterling Fakes It by Jennifer Hummer As Good As Dead by Holly Jackson From Blood and Ash by Jennifer Armentrout A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire by Jennifer Armentrout
Some of them were real duds and others were pretty great. I’m enjoying the Blood and Ash series even if parts of it feel a bit predictable.

June reads: The Funeral Ladies of Ellerie County 2.5* Yours Truly 5* Last Night at the Telegraph Club 4* Fourth Wing 4* Funny Story (in progress)
New to me was Abby Jimenez, read Part of Your World in May, Yours Truly in June and have Just for the Summer in the lineup for later this summer.
As to what to look forward to, I have a stack from the library and need to catch up on BOTM picks - but also think Husbands & Lovers will be my July pick because it's been quite a while since I've read a Beatriz Williams and she's always been a favorite of mine.

I finished 9 in June. Much better than May, plus they were all good. I’ve been really into fantasy lately which is odd for me. More than half of these were new authors to me, and Kristin Higgins is the only one I’ve read more than 2 of. I would say Novel Love Story, Heartless Hunter and Middle of the Night were my favorites.

Dead Romantics was my absolute favorite. Read that one first because there is a small call back in Seven Year Slip, which was also so good!

June was a busy month so I didn't read as much as I usually do. I DNF Inheritance by Nora Roberts before I had to return it. It started dragging for me after I initially posted about it so I went for something different.
I've never made it through an entire Jane Austen book but love some of the modern retellings. I discovered Sara Marks in June and binge read Modern Persuasion, Pride, Prejudice, and Pledging, and Sweeten up, Ginny Darcy. 3 stars for all of them. If I wasn't 25 years past college, I may have given them 4 stars LOL. My library doesn't have her other books so I'll eventually get to them.
