I'm reading The Year of the Witching by Alexis Henderson and it is SO GOOD. It took me a min to get into it for some reason, but now it's one of those books I don't want to end
Audiobook wise, I'm a little over halfway done with The Troop by Nick Cutter but I ran out of free hours on spotify. Whomp whomp. I'm enjoying that one as well

My hold for The Unmaking of June Farrow on audio after months and months, so I started it even though it falls more into a fall/witchy read for me. I am liking it a lot so far.
On my kindle I am reading Leather and Lark and it is just as great as Butcher and Blackbird so far.

Due to Hurricane Beryl life here has basically been canceled and I’ve had lots of reading time.
I read If Something Happens to Me and really liked it. It isn’t getting the best reviews but it’s a good page turner with fun characters. 4 stars from me. I also finished Summer Romance and no. 2 stars. This is probably just a me thing. Rom-com’s aren’t my jam at all this year.
DD and I are going to read Powerless together next. She read both Fourth Wing and Iron Flame and is completely distraught that she has to wait until January to read the third. Same, same. She loved both and wants a dragon.

I just finished Momfluenced - Inside the Maddening, Picture Perfect World of Momfluencer Culture. I hated it, gave I 1 star. It started out with so much promise, I was expecting an actual deep dive and expose of the insidious nature of momfluencers and mommy blogging but it turned into a 500 page apologist paper on why being obsessed with these accounts is ok and these certain people are super cool. She barely even touched on the topic of how the children are shared and exploited without consent, which is arguably the biggest problem. I hate finished it. Nul points, do not recommend.

I finished The Only one left
It was decent. I guessed one of the twists but not the full twist

Under Your Spell was fine. I’m a little tired of the perfect famous guy who falls in love with the normal girl trope but that’s a me thing I guess.
I also read Incidents Around the House and I have mixed feelings on it. It was truly (for me anyway) very scary. I can’t remember the last book that creeped me out as much. But IDK, it had kind of misogynistic vibe? Or maybe I’m reading too much into it. It also got a bit repetitive as it went on. But it definitely freaked me out!
I’m reading A Talent for Murder next.

I finished When Women Were Dragons for book club and I didn’t love it. The underlying themes were great and thought provoking but it was repetitive and a little boring. I’m interested to hear what others at my book club think of it.
I started Happily Never After last night and am still listening to Court of Mist and Fury.

I’m currently reading Still Beating and I don’t know if I should DNF this. It’s gotten a lot of hype, but holy hell I cannot stress enough to check trigger warnings. The writing is, not great, but I feel like I should push through.
I went to a used book store and picked up The Kite Runner and Mexican Gothic. Not sure which one I’ll go with next.

I finished The Stanger by Kiersten Modglin and really enjoyed it. I was kept guessing until the end. I was left with some questions but I still gave it 4 stars.
I also read Vacancy in Room 10 recently by Seraphina Nova Glass and gave that 4 stars as well. I love her characters and this one had so many interesting ones.
Lastly I read the Last Guest House by Caroline Mitchell. I am loving this author. Her books always have these great settings that become a character in themselves. This one wasn’t my favorite of hers but it was still really good. Her books are usually centered around a DCI but the cases are always fascinating. I gave this 4 stars.

There's a quote in The Housemaid is Watching about how everyone knows the third work in a series is never as good as the original or sequel - not sure if that was the author's way of saying she wasn't going to bother trying too hard with this one, or what, but it lived up to that theory.
I gave it 2.5, rounded up to 3 because it did pull me back in a little towards the end (then it gave me the ick).

The hurricane related power outage has been great for my reading. I read 2 other books plus 2 - 4 of ACOTAR after reading the first on vacation last month. Book 5 is going to take me a while since real life is back....
I bought ACOTAR 4 and 5, and Elin Hildebrand's Swan Song at Targets B2G1F sale last week. I've been trying to stick to Libby and the library, but lack of internet meant I "needed" books last week. LOL

I saw something about Sarah Maas special edition books being sold at different stores having special bonus chapters? Anyone know anything about that?

If anyone has yet to pick their Amazon First read for this month, Friends with Secrets is really good! I had an ARC for it a couple months ago.
I picked Deeper Than Dead.

I finished the second in the Windy City series.
These are good if you like the major league sports romances. The my are a bit much but also mindless enough for me to read during my workday on my kindle when I need a 5 minute mental break

But yes great for reading. We got power back very late Thursday so came home Friday morning. The power surge fried one of my AC units. The part is covered under warranty so it’s just the labor we need to cover. (Making it a hundreds problem instead of thousands, at least!) Yeah…we need MUCH longer between these events. My wallet is crying. I’m so behind on…everything. Ugh. I feel bad even complaining because we are so fortunate compared to most. But this all is just too much. Reliable power is a fair ask in a major city in 2024.

Mostly bad timing/bad luck but I’m happy to blame Texas anyways. If I could go the rest of the year without having to throw out perfectly good groceries that would be great. Glad y’all came through ok! We only lost power for 26 hours so very lucky but I’m over it.

I finished The Guest by B.A. Paris yesterday and was highly annoyed by it most of the time. Then in the end so much happens and it's super rushed. I gave it a 2.5 but rounded up to 3.

On TV they're college/post-grad age and in the books they're high school age. The main character is SUPER whiney - at least in the first one.

It's an older book, but I just finished The Kind Worth Killing by Peter Swanson and it was so good! Literally could not put it down
