I will confess that watching the air travel mess on the news had me a bit worried it would mean that Wisconsin will be stuck with all the RNC folks for even longer

This is the kind of thing that I would have run to Chris to chat about and instead I had to call his dad and ask how long he thought the CEO of CrowdStrike was going to have a job.

We are in a loaded up car on the turnpike for family camping weekend. Blessedly my awful BIL pulled out last minute. My Hs driving is making me anxious.
It's my new car's inaugural road trip!

My coworkers that rec'd the blue death screen decided it was a good day to day drink.

My H has been up since 2 am working on this system outage because his company relies heavily on the system that went down. It has been a long, awful day for him.

I spent 6 hours driving to pick up my oldest and her friends from camp. My body hurts. Kinda weird because we’ve done much longer road trips without problem, but I guess I’m meant to be a passenger only for these things. Ugh.

School supplies are one of my love languages and I’ve never shopped for them with DS because our elementary PTA covered everything. Which was great. But we had so much fun shopping today and I was in heaven showing him all the options and exploring these fancy new trapper keeper things. He got a big kid backpack for the first time (like non character themed) and is actually excited about his new gear. And I didn’t blow too much money. So win win.

DS and I are going to Target soon to get a present for a birthday party next weekend. I'm hoping they have school stuff out so he can pick out a backpack and lunchbox as well.

DD1 is making dinner (lemon chicken, rice, broccoli) and it’s just SO nice to have a big kid. Especially one that wants to do stuff like that!

I need to make an appointment with my eye doctor. I just had to increase my laptop's screen resolution because it's getting harder to read things. 😭

It's also my favorite perk at my job. They give 100€ per preschool/elementary kid, 150€ for middle school and 200€ for high school to go towards supplies.

My kids have both always loved to help cook since they were little. My DD(13) has really gotten into cooking independently lately and it is amazing. Big kids are awesome!

Why do we live in a world where fried dough at a carnival costs $10?

Why do we live in a world where fried dough at a carnival costs $10? Buy the Rhode’s frozen pre made rolls, defrost, flatten and fry at home. My short cut to Native fry bread.

We’ve been subsistence fishing all weekend, we have 34 salmon; our limit is 135. We’ve cleaned and filleted a third of the fish, finishing the rest today.
It’s been a long time since I’ve fished like this and my whole body hurts. The river is a steep 10 minute walk and I’ll have a BBL by the time we leave.
The dipnets are heavy, the salmon bones poke my fingers, and the vacuum sealer is an asshole. BUT I get to feed my kids fish once a week now until next summer!

Rhode Island is an interesting place to live because we have about six months of grim, cold, and boring. Then six months of absolutely stunning, favorite place in the world. Maybe I need January to fully appreciate July, but whew, it’s a trade off.

I loved picking out school supplies as a kid. And as an older kid lol. My DD randomly decided to come with me to the grocery store today, which was a Target superstore, and I was so happy to say yes when she asked if she could pick out some school supplies. I also said yes to almost everything she picked out. You want a cute $5 composition book instead of the 50 cent one? Sure! But I drew the line at a large pack of fancy highlighters because they go through those things SO quickly and they weren't on sale, but the small pack was, so I got that one, and a backup pack of regular Bic ones.

Our district provides needed school supplies, but we still buy some extra things to send to the teachers. I love buying new supplies

We’ve had school supplies out for weeks at our stores but we’re about 3 weeks until 1st day of school.
At the end of last school year we got free backpacks full of supplies and a laptop from a federal grant (Tiamuna) for Indigenous kids. They also received summer day camp too.
It’s a once per kid deal, so we won’t get it again. But I didn’t know about it until last year.
