We're getting our other house ready to rent and apparently insurance companies won't write a policy unless we remove the wood stove. The wood stove is inside of an existing fireplace so removing it will give the tenants access to the fireplace which I would think is less safe. So dumb. weird that does seem dumb A wood burning stove has a much higher risk than a fireplace though

The chimney for the existing fireplace was also unlined whereas the the flue for the wood stove is new and regularly maintained. I'm surprised that they would draw a hard line at the wood stove but are fine with a fireplace of any condition.

Some say that it isn’t because the door is closed but I believe it can be more hazardous as a fire potential. That is what I was always told when doing insurance and we sold for about 25 companies

I found one of the ladies here today that loves a pop culture thing as much as I do, so we fangirled together and that helped. But what's the pop culture thing you love? Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift. To be fair, we’re in KC, so I have been a Travis fan for years, even before Mahomes. Named our dog Kelce, even. I just know they are a bit polarizing here.

That is what I was always told when doing insurance and we sold for about 25 companies I could see that being the case if a wood stove is being used all day/night/unsupervised as a primary heat source but I suppose they can't technically prevent that from happening, but that's true of a fireplace too, aside from the fact that fireplaces make for a terrible heat source. I'm just thinking out loud.

It is July 10th and people are STILL shooting off fireworks. Tonight being the worst since the fourth, but it has been every night. I am hoping the volume tonight means they are using what they had left. The town next to us cancelled the fireworks they had planned for their community day because of threatening rain (that ended up holding off), and instead of rescheduling for the 4th like they usually do, they just announced they rescheduled for Aug. 31st to say goodbye to summer. Luckily we are out of town for labor day weekend for a wedding, so I won't have yet another day to deal with my dogs freaking out.

It has been a productive week. I am purging ALL the things this summer. DD2 keeps asking why I am getting rid of all the toys. She looks so pathetic.
FYI: I am getting rid of stuff that we have duplicates of or that hasn’t been played with in a while. She still has plenty of toys. 🫣

I only have 2 weekends to get the room my parents are moving into cleared out before the painter comes, so I have a busy weekend full of cleaning and organizing ahead of me.

My power was not off that long the other day but my fridge has been struggling to cool down ever since. It keeps beeping. Moved most everything to garage fridge and then it will stop beeping and about time I think it's fine it starts beeping again.

I'm working today and then spending the night watching my friend's kids as she's out of town for a wedding.
We have a busy week coming up so hoping for a quiet day tomorrow!

Not sure what I was thinking volunteering for a Continuous Improvement team at work when I already feel like I'm drowning most days. It was one of those days where I was like oh, this will make me look good, and then 5 min later I'm like oh wait.

Today is supposed to be the last day of this crazy heat wave we are having. W have a pool and it doesn’t even feel good to use it. The water temp was 93* yesterday afternoon.

I have tried really hard over the years to pare down but we need to bring linens, food and some kitchen supplies for 3 people and 2 dogs plus some games, books etc.... it's just always so much no matter what I do!

When I got in our pool on Sunday, it felt like stepping into a bath. I don't know what the pool temp was, but it was 91 the day before and it definitely felt hotter on Sunday.

DH and I went to a nice sushi restaurant for dinner last night and it was hands down the best sushi we've ever had. It's also dangerous since it's just down the block from us, but holy hell.
We are so excited to take B there now!

I joined a gym with childcare. The first two times I took DS2 to the childcare place he did great. Didn’t cry at all they said. Every time since (3 times) he has screamed his head off. I’m currently sitting outside the childcare room after dropping him off so I can listen and he was screaming for a few minutes, but, omg, I think he’s finally chilling out.
I don’t even feel like exercising anymore because I assumed I’d have to go rescue him again, but I guess maybe I can hop on a treadmill.

Well, COVID finally struck my household. MH tested positive a few days ago. I have been negative, including a test at UC. I haven’t been home for several days as I had to take my mom to the ER, so I may have dodged the bullet as a result. He has mostly mild symptoms thus far, but is on a Zpack and steroids because of his asthma history.
I hate being away from him as my stubborn mom lives 3 hours away from us but he insists I stay until he’s in the clear.
I know it was very unlikely we’d avoid it forever but I’m still bummed, for him especially. And a little sad about canceling our vacation next week.

The heat pumps upstairs haven’t worked since the first hot day of the summer and the installer has been ignoring my calls. We ran into him at Lowe’s yesterday and he was a complete asshole but then he actually sent someone over today and they’re finally fixed and I can’t believe it. It’s such a huge relief.

As we were cleaning up after dinner, I started with “H, everyday, I…” and ended with “do the bare minimum…” and I guess that’s not where he thought I was going with that sentence. 😂

We were supposed to leave tomorrow morning for Door County. 😢 I’m still taking time off because I have it to take, even if we are able to reschedule this trip later this year, as I sorely needed the time away from work. But vacation at my needy mom’s house is NOT what I had in mind. 🤣

This Microsoft stuff is crazy My work was not effected it seems but my h was I've taken to watching BBC news in the morning so that I don't just spiral on the dumpster fire in our back yard. They're saying the fix might require fixing each individual computer so any large companies without onsite or adequate IT support are going to be hit hardest. Honestly, isn't this how the apocalypse movies start out? Do we need to prep for zombies or aliens?

My H was in the air last night when the IT outage started -- when he landed the plane had to wait on the tarmac for over an hour before they could get to a gate because all the systems were down. But at least he made it home, so many flights have been cancelled.
My office notification system texted everyone to work from home today. Evidently the badging system at the office has been affected.

This isn't the first time we've seen an outage at a single company affect a large swath of the globe. A small number of companies dominate the market in cloud services and one bungled update can cause things like this.
