I finished Banyan Moon by Thao Thai yesterday and it was so good. Highly recommend.
I’m still slogging through Heaven and Earth Grocery Store. Book club meeting can and went and no one enjoyed it or finished it. I have like 60 pages left so I will finish it but it feels like a chore. Too many characters and not one main character. I wanted to like it but it’s a struggle.

Is Beartown super slow the whole way through or is it just the beginning? I just need to know if I should keep going? I think Beartown is one you love or hate. I loved it. It took awhile for me to get used to the writing style but once I did I couldn’t put it down. It’s slow though and very character driven. If you aren’t enjoying it then it’s ok to move on. cnf I’m impressed how quickly you are getting through the Sarah J Maas books! I agree with this statement. I love the series but I know people who just couldn't get into it. I will say that I listened to them rather than reading a physical copy. I tried reading a physical copy when the last one came out and ended up switching for the audiobook because I found it more enjoyable.

I put Beartown down 2 times for being slow but with so many good reviews I decided I needed to see for myself so I finally read it and moved it. I need to get the 3rd one still.

I finished Darling Girls late last week. Solid 3.5⭐️ Nothing super groundbreaking but it was a good pace and kept me reading to the end.
I got a skip the line copy of The Wager over the weekend. I requested it, because someone here recommended it, not because it was a subject I know anything about. I flew through it. The author did a good job of giving the right amount of background without being so detailed that you lose all readers but the 1700s sailing/shipwreck experts. 4⭐️
And I just finished up Middle of the Night by Riley Sager. It was just meh for me 2.5⭐️

Everyone has raved about it so much. I was surprised that no one in my group liked it. And we picked Swan Song for our next book because everyone wanted a light beach read. We’ve been on a run of heavy, sad books.

Pageboy was a three star read for me, not bad but I didn’t love it. I like Elliot Page as an actor (he narrated the book well too) and am glad he got the chance to tell his story.

I stayed up too late last night and finished TOG. I have a teacher workday today but I only have like an hour or so worth of work to do before I'm done for the year, so I'll probably spend a fair amount of my day sitting in my mostly packed up classroom reading Crown Of Midnight.

I didn't finish it either. It is beautifully written and has great stories but I agree that it felt like a chore. I don't always love the rambling storytelling format

Anyone have any experience with finding out if a paperwhite is really water resistant or not?
Last week while floating in SIL's pool I was really wishing I could read. I was thinking of bringing my paperwhite this week but am nervous because there's a strong chance that I'd fall off the floatie due to my lack of coordination and an even stronger chance that my niece will flip the floatie.
Worth the risk? Buy a dry bag to put it into? (or will it overheat?) Don't chance it?

I don’t have one so don’t know about effectiveness or waterproofing but they do have cases bookriot.com/waterproof-kindle-cases/

I read 3 romances in a row.
The Rom-Commers was cute. Not my favorite by her but I enjoyed it overall.
I read One Star Romance and really liked it. It’s an enemy to lovers type of story that takes place over 10 years. It was definitely my favorite of the 3 that I read this week.
My only library book left was Not in Love so I went ahead and read it and it was everything I was afraid it would be. So much cringey sex talk and endless sex scenes. Really not my thing.
I had three thrillers come through yesterday and I’m going to start with Middle of the Night.

So yeah Swan Song is not it. Elin has said she has run out of ideas and you can certainly tell. I'm about 35% into it and don't plan on finishing. It just feels like a chore to read and I don't care. She peaked with 28 Summers. Everything after that has been a disappointment.
Started the 3rd Housemaid book last night. Not exactly great literature here but usually these are quick reads. We will see.

I just finished More: A Memoir of Open Marriage. I’ve been trying to get out of my usual comfort zone for reading so I thought I’d give it a shot. It had some good reviews when I first put it on my list, but I didn’t care for it. I was emotionally exhausted just reading about it. She always seems to portray others in a positive light regardless of what they did.

I’ll stalk her earlier books to see what looks good I think we have discussed this before but Hotel Nantucket is one of my top hate reads from the last few years. It read like Regina George’s mom wrote it. Desperate to appeal to Gen Z at every turn with the pop culture references.

I hate listened to it while painting my living room, I would have DNFd a physical copy

I'll confess that I didn't hate Hotel Nantucket - it just felt like someone else had written it though.

I feel like she kind of did that with this one too but with middle aged characters and it just fell flat

I finished Horror Movie by Paul Tremblay and it was...alright. It never quite gripped me like Head full of ghosts did, but it did have a great premise ("cursed film") and uniqure writing style.
Next up I'm going to try to start Ghost Station.

I just finished the audio book of Everyone on This Train is a Suspect by Benjamin Stevenson, the sequel to Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone. I actually liked this better than the first one. Audio narration was good, too.
