Newsweek has become such complete schlock. YES I WOULD. Watching your newborn baby be intubated because they were born too early was awful. I will always make the best choice I can for the health and safety of my children. And yes that means shots. The number of uncomfortable exams/procedures Z has had is not a small number and he probably has a permanent doctor phobia but his health will always be our concern.

I was asking my mom when she's getting her booster and she started lamenting how she isn't looking forward to a couple days of feeling like crap and having to take time off. I'm like Mom, do it on a Friday evening and you have the whole weekend to rest. Then she says well then a weekend is ruined. Yes but it is better than DYING! She's pro vax but just being irritable today or something. So then I laid the child guilt on her and said I needed her to do it in order to say alive for me. lol.

We just got a school alert that our Thanksgiving break is getting extended stating "This decision was made upon careful consideration of the high levels of stress that our students, families and staff have expressed during the first few months of this school year."
I think we are all broken.

I think we are all broken. I appreciate the sentiment but I feel like this has potential to just cause more stress for parents who have to work? Unless they're providing free childcare in lieu of school days.

I think we are all broken. Does this mean they are adding instructional days at the end of the school year? That's always what happens to us with added days off

I think we are all broken. By how long? We are already off that entire week. Which was really weird to me because back in olden times when I went to school we MAYBE had a half day on the Wednesday before.

Thanksgiving isn't that far away and the are already missing 3 days earlier in the month for Election Day, Veterans Day, and P-T conferences. They increased it by two days (already had W-Fr off), it does not add time to the calendar. They said they will let community partners know, so maybe there will be some child care support? but you'll be paying for it. I'm definitely not wild about it, and also very huh about the reason they cited. It seems like teachers are the winners here? Maybe that's the angle?

I'm so happy for everyone with 5-11 year olds in the US, and so frustrated with the EMA (the EU's version of the FDA), which has announced it will try its best to approve Pfizer for 5-11 year olds by Christmas. CHRISTMAS!!!! I had really been setting my hopes on late November and having them protected by the time they go back after break.

I just got my moderna booster today. I was chatting up the health department people about hoping to be in next week with my 7 year old. One nurse tried to tell me that he won’t be eligible because the next group will be 8-11. I was like, no. Trust me. I have been following every bit of news about this and listened to meetings when I can. The cut off is 5. My 7 year old will be getting vaccinated as soon as it is approved, thank you very much. I still have a 3 year old at home, but the asthma kiddo will be vaccinated. Do not take that joy from me.

CDC meetings November 2 and 3. Assuming approval by the CDC director, I would guess appointment software updates might start showing up the evening of November 3, like the timing of the boosters.

I hope so! My anti vax sister in law is supposed to be visiting my in-laws (who we’ll see for a bit). I’d love for my kids to be so excited for their shots and point blank ask her if she got hers. 🤣

Who likes getting a shot? No one. Not me. Not my 5yo. But we've been talking about what's going to happen (He's going to get superpowers, duh.) and why it's important, and we're going to go out for donuts afterward. My 4 yo loves getting shots. She cried at one year at her wellness check because she wasn’t getting a shot. They ended up pretending to give her one - it worries me for when she is an adult, she’s going to be the female Travis Barker ETA not that tattoos are bad, just not a fan of tattoos that end up covering every square inch of your body

My kid's teacher was venting to me at our conference--they can't convince anyone to work in the elementary schools with the kids unvaxxed.

Ok, in case anyone was wondering why the FDA approved today and CDC advice isn't until Tuesday. The CDC advisory panel is actually a bunch of doctors and immunologists and whatnot from around the country who listen to CDC representatives explain the data and then advise CDC on approval and Director Walensky issues guidance. These are people who have full time jobs and families and are all over the country. So FDA approval gives go-ahead for CDC panel to meet. Now these people have to arrange travel and time off of work and get to DC (or maybe Atlanta? Idk) for the actual meeting. I have followed this fairly closely all along and was confused about the delay so I thought this info might be helpful to others who were similarly puzzled.

My mom's school had to go remote for a week at the beginning of this month because they had too many teachers on quarantine or sick and couldn't get subs.

We can't find subs at the middle school either. We've been getting pulled every which way to sub a period or two during a planning periods. It's getting desperate on the secretaries end and teachers are already fed up with losing preps. And it's October. It's going to be a relentless and straining year.

I literally had the longest day ever. I covered kindergarten this morning (the teacher asked weeks ago). Then taught my classes. Had lunch. Found out last night I covered special Ed up until dismissal. I am SO fried. Drained. Mentally exhausted. And can’t believe it is only October.

I told DS about possible shots next week and he’s so friggin excited.
Sounds like my work is ready to go and that’s who DS doctor is associated with so hopefully it will be easy for me to schedule.

Yes, I was chatting with Uncaripswife about this and teachers are the ones really benefitting from this and that they are most likely worried about teacher/staff burnout. Not to say my kids won’t be happy to be home, but that is a huge unexpected burden for families. And I’m not knocking teachers needing the time- I know this school year has been exceptionally tough.

It's just such a bizarre decision. After a summer of insisting kids need to be in the building to just throw unexpected childcare days at parents with less than a month's notice.....

My mom tried to start subbing this year because she knew it would be a slam dunk in terms of need for work and a nice change from what she's been doing. But the amount of work it would take for her to able to be eligible to sub (she only has an associates) was too much and she gave up the idea. We're so short staffed, and obviously we don't want just ANYONE coming in to help, but like, don't make it a whole thing and scare off people either.

Wahh! How many days is “several days”? ETA nevermind, read the full article "We urge parents to get ready and make a plan, and the program will be fully up and running the week of November 8th," Zients said.

A few weeks ago, our district announced that the schools and offices would be closed on the 12th. 100% sure it was related to lack of subs/teachers requests to be off. I was surprised at the compassion and understanding from parent's comments on SM.

I called DS’s pediatrician yesterday and they said it had to be approved, then they had to order, etc. They took my name and number and said they would call when they had more info. None of this particularly sounds like it will happen quickly for us, unfortunately.

DS1 is so excited it’s been approved by the FDA. I have a gut feeling though with the way things are going at H’s work he’ll go through another quarantine or be positive before he gets it 😞
