I think someone briefly mentioned it above which helped me decide to get a booster. Reading the article makes me feel validated, seen, and cared for. Itās always nice to see health professionals taking mental health seriously and advocating for us.

There's still no system set up near me to schedule shots for kids yet. I keep checking. Same and I'm kinda confused about it. I guess more info will come out when it's fully approved?

IMO, once there is final CDC sign off on the 5-11 Pfizer shot, we'll see slots opening. Like the Moderna and J&J boosters. By me, Walgreens and CVS had opened up scheduling by 9:00 pm CT the very evening that the CDC director signed off. I'm thinking the provider logistics are being worked out as we speak, but probably no one want to jump the gun and schedule appointments until everything is properly signed off, just in case, right? We still have both an FDA final approval, the CDC panel, and the CDC director sign off to come. I think the CDC meets November 2 and 3. I got my Moderna booster yesterday morning and have basically the same side effects as Moderna shot #2. Headache, slight fever, achey, little nausea and tired. Nothing too terrible but glad I was able to basically hang as home all day. Hopefully I'll be better tomorrow if the booster acts like my second shot. www.mlive.com/public-interest/2021/10/how-soon-could-children-5-11-get-a-covid-19-vaccine.html

How old is he? Walgreens by me has been doing the 12-15 group (Pfizer) for months. I wouldn't expect the pharmacists to administer to anyone under 12 until we get sign off? CVS too. I just did a dummy appointment for a 13 year old and Walgreens gave me a lot of Pfizer slots to pick from?

Got boosted today with Moderna. I have the lip tingling again that I had with the first dose, which I'm surprised by since it's a half dose. One hour post shot now, and it only started maybe 15 minutes ago- a good 20 minutes after the stay/observe period. Thankfully it's not severe, just odd feeling. But I'm adding it here in case there's anyone else who had or might have a similar reaction.

willow, beaf12, will do! I do work for a clinic--on the administrative side. So while I personally don't have a lot of involvement with the fine details of stuff like this, I'm in all the meetings where it's hashed out. Well, our clinic just said they would be vaccinating after sending a message a week ago saying they wouldnāt be š¤·š¼āāļø. Iāll be trying pharmacies first as I think our clinic will require an appointment at a vaccine clinic. I think I had better write down a list of places for DH in case he has to try scheduling while Iām at work. He gets easily overwhelmed, but with a list, heāll do ok.

FDA panel voted to approve; then it goes to the full FDA who may, or may not, accept that guidance. Generally they do. That would be this Friday, by all reports. Then it goes to the CDC for a vote, and then the CDC director needs to sign off. The CDC is scheduled to meet November 2 and 3.
For the adult boosters it appears to me logistics were put in place behind the scenes pending CDC approval, and I assume the same for the Pfizer 5-11 group. I don't think anyone is going to see appointments available until after the CDC director signs off. For the booster, pharmacies by me updated their software within hours of the CDC director's approval to accept scheduling. But no can do anything until the CDC director signs off.

Our appointment site for our girls is just over an hour away. It's at lunch time, so we'll hit Culver's (their fave) on our way and then they'll get plenty of movies the rest of the day on Sunday. We're going to make this as "worth it" in their minds as possible. My little one usually shakes like a leaf and cries during her flu shot. I am expecting the same. Like the others, I would prefer Moderna - but we're not waiting. I figure their boosters can be Moderna. It's more important to get them something. DD is still doing virtual learning this year and I am considering waiting for the Moderna. Am I crazy? I think it comes down for what's best for you, DD, and your family. We're doing like AmyG suggested - what's available now and get what I want as a booster. At any rate, they will have more protection than they do now. At this point, we have been so careful for nearly 2 years. Since they're eligible, just tell me where they need to be and they'll be there. But that's what works for us. I am focusing on all the amazing scientific progress and knowledge that is in the vaccine and not letting the perfect be the enemy of the good.

The logistics have been being worked on since the announcement that they submitted. They can ship it once the FDA approves on Friday, but no shots in arms until cdc issues guidance, which will be late next week if the director signs off immediately

DDās adenoid removal is/was this morning. Weāre at an outpatient only surgery centerā¦ the nurse told me that the hospitals are all closed to elective surgeries. Part covid admissions, part staffing because people refused vaccines. So, things are going swell here in the capital region of NY

I know Moderna has proven to be more effective wrt to Delta variants, but it's not like Pfizer is some second rate vaccine. My 5yo will be vaccinated as soon as humanly possible.

Iām hoping a good takeaway from the Covid years will be mask wearing in crowded public places or if you have a sniffle. We were discussing masks after the kids get fully vaccinated. I think we will still encourage them in flu season and if Covid is in high or moderate transmission. I donāt necessarily want my kids to think masks need to go away since there have been positive outcomes as a result of using masks.

My toddler is 22 months. When should we start practicing the mask wearing? He wears glasses, which I fear will make it extra challenging. I'll ask his OT what she thinks tomorrow; I asked her once a few months ago and she waved me off. Like, don't worry about that yet. But masks will definitely still be a thing this winter.

Masks are a thing here even before covid because of the fires and air quality. And thatās in summer and fall. So weāll just keep on keeping on. Of course, itās two different types of masks. For fires you want the ones with the air valve out.

Eventually start saying, "ok, keep the mask on while we put away toys," or, "keep the mask on while we change your diaper," or something like that. Eventually, he'll just think of it as normal. Rewards will help, too. And DD (4) has glasses. Just make sure his mask has a nose wire, and maybe get some of that anti-fog spray. I make sure to tuck the mask under the nose piece of her glasses and that seems to help. DD is really good about leaving her mask on if she is distracted by other things. ETA: And when you have him practice, make sure you are wearing a mask, too. Maybe have loved family and friends wear masks around him even at home, just so it becomes a thing he is ok doing.

AmyG Same scene here in UT. Iād say 20% of parents are wearing for pick-up and probably about 15% shoppers wear in grocery stores. People are over it and our numbers represent that.

And then have your older DS wear one so he can be like his big bro. Good luck!

I like masking and the relative anonymity it brings. And my 5yo doesn't mind them one bit. The toddler will be tough, as toddlers are, but we also still have mask mandates in schools and medical facilities. So, he'll get used to it.

This is helpful, thank you!! His DCP and the older kids at daycare wear them, as do all the adults in his therapy sessions. So he's accustomed to them on others, a least a little. I have one Enro mask he thinks is hilarious. I'll check out that fog spray as well. And thank you, too, addymac! He's only just started showing interest in screens, so that might work.

I like that if I don't keep up on my rogue chin hairs for a couple days, it's ok because no one sees them on zoom or at work with my mask on, lol. Though I am really not impressed with my chin acne that has sprouted since returning to the office. I only wear it in common areas, not in my office, but I can simply just think about a zit and it will sprout on my face, so it doesn't take much.
