Ok so it is still sort of just Neil's estimates based on other polling numbers. Not actual hard data from deaths linked to a person's previously registered voting history.
Again, I am sure it is close to truth. It just is a very salacious headline that I could see Republicans attacking as fake news.

Agreed. He posted this in his thread Only 25% of republicans are unvaccinated? If 70% of the adult population in the US is vaccinated, then of the remaining 30% that aren't, 25% R plus 5% D makes sense.

He's definitely had a strong POV on a lot of controversial topics lately. ETA I don't think you can get closer to much closer to hard data on this topic though- given it's an extrapolation of knowns. The daily death rates are what they are. We know 70% of the adult population has had at least one shot. We have a pretty good estimate of who hasn't been.

We got a call from one of our customers this morning. He's been in the hospital for 10 days and was nearly put on a ventilator. Apparently his whole company got it and they haven't even been able to operate for the last week or so. About 3-4 weeks ago, I overheard my boss talking to him, asking if he was going to get vaccinated, and I very clearly heard him yell "Hell no!" then go off with all the conspiracies. My boss asked him if he wished he got vaccinated and he said he didn't know, maybe, but he felt like he was really close to dying, so maybe he should have. Now my boss, who WAS vaccine hesitant, is super anxious to get his second dose. He lost a cousin last week who was otherwise healthy and in her mid 40s, and an aunt a week or so before, who was otherwise healthy and in her 50s.

Well that sounds lovely. I'm jealous of the availability and fast turn around. Honestly I think the U.S. really pushing the vaccines and vaccine production was for sure the right choice originally. I don't think it was clear that so many would voluntarily not take the vaccine. But now that that's the case I don't understand why the U.S. government isn't pushing on increasing test centers and reducing the price. We don't pay for any of this testing. I get boxes of self tests every month for my preschooler (where testing is optional) given to me for free, and my school aged students do the testing at school and again for free. Testing centers are everywhere, we walk three minutes to get to the nearest one, and insurance covers PCR tests as long as they're not done for travel I think. But when we paid privately for PCR tests to travel it was 30 Euros. Way less Germans would be testing so often if they had to pay for it, it was hard to get to, or if took forever to get results. Also masks should cost much, much less, Americans are being totally screwed over by the companies selling masks there. We pay about 1 euro for surgical or KN95 masks. on the one hand I think you're right. On the other hand, when I hear about how much testing helps slow the spread, I think about how that means people have to respond correctly if they test positive or are exposed. I guess I just don't have that much faith that even if we had all of the tests, people would actually quarantine or isolate if they were positive or exposed.

I think there's always a benefit to making the right thing to do as easy as possible. Of course there are some people who will still lie with a positive result but I think there's another group who would love to have that information but at this point can't afford to test/logistically make it happen and that's really unfortunate. Especially since in the end it can come down to life and death.

Our local urgent care that everyone had been using is now charging $150 and instructing people to seek reimbursement from insurance, which obviously isn’t going to work for some families. CVS and Walgreens are booked up for the next week. These are families who need tests for their children to return to school. If testing isn’t fast and easily available, many more families will do the mental calculus that Junior’s cough is probably just a cold and more kids with mildly symptomatic COVID will be attending school.

One of our clients (federal) told us yesterday that all vendors must be fully vaccinated, and if not, they have to provide a negative covid test from the past 3 days. Two of our techs have only had one vaccine, so one went to urgent care to get a test and they said the cost was $265. Their website said verified uninsured receive free tests and most insured are having their copay waived, but I guess maybe their website is outdated. The whole thing is a clusterfuck. We had to call the client and cancel because we couldn't find any available test sites nearby.

We are in week 3 and everything was feeling good. Then on the way to school today my kiddo mentioned not everyone was in class yesterday....I thought odd for 1st graders so soon into the year.
Then the teacher and school sent out a reminder about Covid protocols and absences needing documentation to return if you are out 2 days.
I am a bit stressed now.
Busiest time of month and year for work, plus DH is working out of town. Of course I should be working, but now I am distracted.

Received (yesterday) an email someone in D2’s class has covid. 2 were missing, but he said his class partner was out to a dentist appt and another was gone all day. We didn’t get a close contact call, so I’m assuming his reporting was correct. Still, we have to monitor him. Thankfully, they wear masks inside, but I’m still uneasy.

Our school sent close to 40 kids home yesterday over being close contacts of 13 positive students yesterday. Today they sent out notification that they in fact can't force asymptomatic students to quarentine. Therefore many are already back on campus with the rest confirming they are returning, mostly unmasked, tomorrow. So basically there are no legal mitigation efforts at all because of the state.

Our gov just gave an address. We basically have FOUR available ICU beds in the entire state. He went on to talk about his tour of one of the ICU wards yesterday, how hes reactivating the National Guard, authorizing acquisition of additional staff from USGA, and asked very nicely to please get vaccinated.
not once in the 10 min address did he mention masks.

A few of my coworkers were filling out their medical/religious exemption paperwork this weekend. I have no idea what bogus thing they came up with. I hope it all gets declined.

This is so ridiculous. We need universal standards. Here there are no masks or testing and kids have to be within 3ft at school, but un vaxxed close contacts have to quarantine for at least 5 days.

It's recommended but not required. My brain can't really handle trying to make sense of it. At some point it's going to hit the fan in our schools.

There’s legal ramifications if you break quarantine.

As I’m reading I feel like we live in an alternate universe. Unless you are fully vaccinated or considered an essential employee (which only allows you to go to work), you can’t leave your property if the health department considers you a close contact.
So we wouldn’t be allowed to have mom and dad positive and kids not in quarantine.

A school district near me had parents take them court over quarentine. Basically that only a health dept can quarentine, not a school. And they won. Our health department has a hard time keeping up and the school contacting close contacts is a lot easier and faster. So, ugh. It's only a matter of time before parents in my district get wind of that.

Yeah there's no quarantining here. You are expected at school unless you are covid positive. Same for both mine and DH's workplaces.
I just got an email that there was a technical glitch and my enro order was cancelled 😫 I placed 2 orders though so I'm hoping it's only one. It didn't specify.
