Please let something good come of this! Please please please! Although I was under the impression nothing could be done in Iowa because it was made a law? Utah's was also, I think this is the loophole they found to go around the law.

I'm so jealous of the positive in the classroom protocol you have jaygee. I just tried checking the website and I can't find any reference to what happens if is a positive in the classes. Apparently I have to dig deeper which seems ridiculous. I know if a student is exposed to a positive (like in their household), they are allowed to return to school. If they don't want to test, they can just wear a mask. I was nervous because on paper it seemed like the close contacts would only be the students seated near that student. But at least in this first example they are considering the whole class close contacts. That eases my mind a bit. I’m not sure when the positive student will be allowed to return but I know the family so I should be able to find out.

I will say our state does a relatively good job with PCR testing sites (at least comparatively speaking to other states). We've had one by us open this whole time and they're starting to reopen more with the school year starting.

We've had one by us open this whole time and they're starting to reopen more with the school year starting. We are not doing a good job on this. They converted most of the mass test sites into vax sites and then shut them down after most people were vaxed. So dumb. I think some cities are starting to reopen them but my county seems slow to respond. We have a low positivity rate right now as our delta surge seems to have plateaued already but schools just started so who knows what will happen. And if you can’t test easily do you really know the true positivity rate?

Yep. Our numbers are "down" but only because there is a test shortage. Our positivity rate is still too damn high. My zip code's daily positivity rate for today was 100%. Cool. WHAT. Oh my god. I'm so sorry.

I just got an email that the POSH kids' KN94 masks are back in stock (they were on the professors' list of recommended kid masks I shared before but were out of stock). In case anyone is looking for some. behealthyusa.net/apps/bundles/bundle/86412

Hey ladies. I bought a 10pack of Vida’s Kids FDA Registered KN95 Mask - in green (Pistachio). We didn’t end up going to FL on an airplane so I have 9 unused masks if someone wants them.
I guess I’d just ask you to pay for shipping since they ended up costing me over $40 with all the fees and tax and shipping. I’d rather someone use them for their kiddos than they just sit in their envelope in my closet.
Also I have kids face shields 10pack that we didn’t use either of someone wants those. Again- just pay for shipping.
Lemme know. I get depressed every time I see these packages in my house haha

I live in a smaller suburb, and no one tests, so it's only 100% of something like 10 tests. But it just shows that testing is a joke here. People basically won't test unless they absolutely have to and so a positive is more likely.

And I just got jury duty summons for next month. I deferred it last year due to the pandemic but I assume I can't do that again 😫 And things are so much worse now. At least the court requires masks I guess. Ugh.

I might loss my mind - I just looked at our school district website and the last time they updated covid testing numbers was June. Im going to be on their watch list with how many emails I’m sending to the district office.

I think I will just start doing the binax rapid for my kid twice per week on the off weeks from the PCR testing at school. It’s going to cost me $50 per month plus more if H and I also want to use them. But my brain will appreciate the piece of mind I guess. I have been through 3 boxes of binax tests since my oldest started band 5 weeks ago. We are not using them as instructed by following up 3 days later; we are using them as 2 tests per box. My allergies have been so obnoxious and both my older girls get anxiety-induced upset stomachs. You basically can't get a same day test (or test result!) here. So...bye bye monies? I am more than a little annoyed that I'm spending so much when clearly no one else in TX seems to be worried.

Can't have high case numbers if you don't test! Their strategy isn't working because the three- and 14-day numbers don't make me feel any better for you.

At least the court requires masks I guess. Ugh. I have to go to jury duty this week and I’m super stressed about it. The county it’s in has rates that are over 5 times what the CDC classifies as high level of transmission. It feels like quite the irony that I’ve spent the last 18 months doing everything I can to stay away from people and now will be stuck in a room with a ton of people in an area that acts like Covid doesn’t exist.

Well I am looking up testing around me and it appears I can get appointments for tomorrow for PCR tests pretty easily through Walgreens. I can't find anything for today but I think it's just because of the time of day. I haven't tried CVS yet. My middle DD came home saying her throat is sore, no other symptoms. She ate all of her lunch and is eating a snack now so I don't know what to think.

Do you know where they get the universal mask no tests stats from? As you know we hate masks here and are told there are no studies that show they are effective - thus we don’t use them anywhere especially not on children in schools. Not even on children in the hospital waiting rooms. So I get a bit curious about these, not that it will change anything.

This was at least partially CDC funded. www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2021.08.10.21261726v1
