This was posted on my FB thread as a shot of Lollapalooza in Chicago. Now my hopes that numbers might get under control before we fly back to the Midwest are gone. How can people feel comfortable doing this?!?

Yeahhhh Chicago and the Midwest are screwed. All those people will fly back home and infect other areas. Iāve been seeing shots all weekend of the crowds cuz too many people I know are being dumb AF and have been at Lolla all weekend. Not a mask to be seen. You really gonna tell me everyone there is vaccinated? Yeah right.
Sigh.

I'm a little irked by the coverage of the Cape Cod outbreak because the vaccines are *working* and it appears I'm not the only one

Why do I feel so much more pessimistic than the May thread šŖ (rhetorical question) This is where I am at. My mental health took a huge hit this week; for the first time since he took office Bidenās address last Thursday (?) just left me sad and hopeless instead of calmed and reassured.

Hi. I have an emotional hangover from having to mediate a covid related fight with some family members yesterday. Back story is that we are trying to gather safely at my auntās house for the last time before she moves and as sort of a memorial to my grandma. My aunt has a close friend that is unvaccinated because she has a condition that she canāt get the vaccine. So my cousin (my auntās son) and his wife want to wear a mask when that person is around. My aunt said no so my cousin said heās not coming.
My aunt has been super safe during covid but I think she wants it to be over and sheās in her feelings about her friend. So I had to call her and tell her that she is being unreasonable and itās not personal against the friend itās just everyone trying to do their best in a stressful situation. She eventually came around but my cousin is so pissed and now might cancel his trip anyways. Oy.
Im so over covid.

I'm so nervous about school. And I feel like I'm the only one in my area that is concerned about the kids.

jaygee, it's just so tough all around. I can kind of see both your cousins' and your aunt's points of view. I hope it can be conveyed to the friend that people are thinking of her safety first since she cannot be vaccinated through no choice of her own. It sounds like that's the intent, but at first not understood, maybe?

This year I am having daily panic attacks. Everyone else is like oh yay normalcy! I totally get that. I'm hopeful that a mandate will be coming, but until then, hopefully parents will be willing to mask their children if they know quarantine procedures have changed (the district is using the saliva screening for those who sign up. they've said that if your child is masked, social distanced, and screened, they won't be required to quarantine as close contacts as long as they are testing negative). But everyone is still all "free the children!" as if mask wearing is some great hardship for them. They all managed pretty well last year.

Iām basically trying to keep myself from being terrified about masks in school and what is going to happen here (ND) if a mandate goes back in place. I have almost zero faith in people here. They dropped masks 15 days before school ended last year due to the loud assholes.

I feel pretty alone in my area with school concern too. There are maybe a handful of people that are upset the schools are only recommending masks. Unless they require masks we're going to enroll DD on a virtual public school until she can be vaxxed
To top off the anxiety, MH will be starting a PhD program 3 hrs away in 2 weeks and if cases get out of control, I don't know if it'll be a good idea for him to come home every other weekend.

mrsweasley That's rough. Can he take it week by week on how you guys feel about him traveling back and forth? Definitely, he's taking a car so it'll be easy to make a go/no go decision. It's going to be really hard on the kids though, especially the younger two

I would assume her friend would want to wear one anyway since she can't be vaccinated? That's rough. I know. Honestly I feel like itās a ānot about the pastaā thing. Sheās under a lot of stress and I think she is trying to will things back to normal. When I talked to her it was a lot of emotional energy that seemed misplaced. She felt like her friend would feel like an outcast if everyone put on their mask when she walked in the room and I had to explain to her that it was for everyoneās best interest. My cousins and I think the friend wouldnāt even care but my aunt is adamant that she will feel hurt. I gave her the light version of a āfuck feelingsā speech. Lol. Anyways sounds like my cousin is out so now the whole trip is falling apart and we might not go either. Itās sad but I just think everyone has to make their own decisions right now and no one can get too upset if the decision has good intentions to keep people safe and sane.

I gave my 6 yo a COVID test this morning so August is off to a lovely start. It was negative so hopefully her sore throat and cough are just allergies.
My Vax hesitant sister did decide to get vaccinated though! Her primary care doctor talked some sense into her. I hope others reach that conclusion

We drove to a nearby town to get COVID tests today. After a few days of camping, the kids and I came down with coughs and sore throats last night. Itās probably just a summer cold, but I donāt want to take any chances on spreading Delta. So now weāre chilling at my parentsā house for a few days until we get results. Much napping and movie watching will occur.
