I felt so crazy for scheduling that last minute trip to fly to AZ to see my parents in June and was so nervous about it all, but I feel so, so lucky that we did.

I can see how creating a QR code to check vaccination status would be a good way to go but I don’t think it would be as clear cut with medical exemptions. It would be relatively simple to have the “passport” for vax status attached to a vaccine record database. But I assume medical exemptions would have either have to access individual doctor offices or the doctors would have to report in to a database somewhere.
This also reminds me about our discussion of the CDC only tracking hospitalized breakthrough cases. A local health department did a Q&A session last week and somebody asked if they’re tracking breakthrough cases locally. They responded that system logistics make it so they can’t really track unless the patient is hospitalized. The state vaccine database doesn’t connect with the covid case database so the only way to track would be to have somebody actually go through and compare each positive case against the vaccine records.

I know at least in my local region, they are tracking all break through cases and have good stats on those.

I know at least in my local region, they are tracking all break through cases and have good stats on those. How are they tracking all breakthrough cases? I will bet an internet donut that a lot (most?) of those cases are asymptomatic or very mild - so those folks are not testing at all, or maybe testing with an at home test, and then it's a question in my mind that those are reported anywhere. Or are they tracking all cases that actually showed up at a doctor or tested via a pharmacy, etc? Still think they're missing most cases.

There's a nasty thread going on Nextdoor here for a neighboring school district where someone posted a petition asking the school to require masks. So many idiots claiming masks don't work or "just wear your face diaper if you're so scared" 🙄
No wonder our cases are shooting up. I'm so mad DD will be spending another year doing virtual school because of selfish idiots

Agreed, if there is at home testing, they aren't catching those. But aren't catching those for unvaccinated either.

greykitty Where we stayed the library had mask required signs - don’t know if they were enforceable but everyone complied. NYC tristate area. As per vaccine and test requirements when we arrived in Denmark we were asked if we had been vaxxed and they just accepted our answer that yes we were vaxxed and that we would leave the airport and drive to another country, we never had to show any paper work. NonEU citizens were showing some documentation from what I could see but we just said yes, yes’ and were thru. Very odd for border control in my opinion… but there you have it. As soon as we crossed into Sweden all masks came off and it was back to pandemic? What pandemic - the rest of the world is totally overreacting… again. So glad we took the trip tho, we all needed it even if it was hard and mostly caretaking.

My vax hesitant boss got his first shot on Friday! He said talking to me helped change his mind initially, plus we have government contracts our techs have to be on site for, so it’s likely only a matter of time before they’re required to have it to be on site. One of our contracts is the CDC, so I’m sure it’s coming. We have 4 techs here and I know one is anti vax, but he asked the guy “do you still want to be able to provide for your family?” So I feel like it’s about to be mandatory. He asked me several times if my family and I are all ok after getting ours lol.
Also, I’m already seeing Georgia schools having to quarantine because of exposure and dammit this is stressful 😫

I would love to see senior hours come back for stores and timed entry for places like museums and zoos. Something to protect more vulnerable people other than fighting with people who don’t want to mask or vaxx.

MH's office downtown opened up for a few folks at a time the beginning of July. He's been going 2x per week with a handful of other folks, well spaced. They rescinded it today because GA's COVID numbers are terrible so it looks like he'll be home FT with me again for a while.
GA fucking sucks.
Today is the first day of school and my oldest (7) is missing it because he has a cough and cold. I gave him an at-home COVID test (pro-tip, wear a face shield because your child WILL blow loads of snot in your face while you swab them), which was negative. The idea of him missing the first day of 2nd grade bothered me this morning but I realized I just don't care. He's sick, he needs to rest and not infect his classmates. Fin.

Given the recent surges everywhere due to Delta, my H is pretty adamant that our older dd not start in person TK in two weeks. I mostly agree but I'm heartbroken because she really needs the in person interaction. So now I have to figure out if I can switch her to virtual learning (they made us choose back in April). I'm hoping maybe she can do in person come January, as by then she should be vaxxed. 🤞

Just went shopping and I'd be shocked if 20% of the people in Wegmans were masked up. My county just came out and said masks for indoors are now recommended regardless of vaccine status. We'll see if it makes any difference, but I don't have a lot of hope.

My brother and his family are scheduled to come in 2.5 weeks - from Florida. I asked my mom if they were vaccinated and she said she thinks so (so I'm guessing no since it wasn't explicitly said). I'm hoping she asks him again before they come.
I actually won't even get to see him/them - they're only spending a few hours with my parents before going to stay with a friend and then an amusement park the next day before going up north to a resort. But my parents will be exposed (vaxxed, but I still worry for them because old) and so likely will my 3 year old who is obviously not vaxxed.
Also I'm a little bitter that he didn't make any effort to see me - we used to be super close before he moved and I think he's turned MAGA on me.

Right there with you elle. I'm sorry. We are holding our youngest out until she can be vaccinated or the situation improves dramatically. Her older sisters are much older so she...desperately...needs that kid time. I am so, so angry that people can't f*cking behave so KIDS CAN GO TO SCHOOL.

One woman posted that her toddler was recently in the hospital with COVID and multiple people were basically like "but did they die? See, it's fine" How fucking callous ... Wow. Not that pointedly but basically the same sentiment was on my Nextdoor too. It wasn’t about any specific kid, but a lot of only xx kids have died and they all had pre existing conditions. That one guts me too because do people realize how many people have preexisting conditions? How many are undiagnosed? And even so, do people with preexisting conditions not matter? They were living healthy lives and managing those conditions (or not even aware of them before) so now they should just be ok with dying? Ugh.

Like, maybe someone had a weak heart or diabetes. They may need a lifetime of medication, but they still have a long expected life.

There's a secondary pandemic in this country- heartlessness. I'm sitting in the parking lot of our local Med Express to get dd2 tested. Both younger girls came down with bugs this weekend, but while dd3 is recovered, dd2 is miserable. Fevers, runny/stuffy noses, nausea/vomiting (from the nasal drainage, AFAIK). Neither are allowed indoors anywhere, and have only been to the beach, splash pad, and our little neighborhood park. Our numbers are borderline, but in the "moderate" zone. Crossing everything that it's some other cold/virus.
