Not that pointedly but basically the same sentiment was on my Nextdoor too. It wasn’t about any specific kid, but a lot of only xx kids have died and they all had pre existing conditions. That one guts me too because do people realize how many people have preexisting conditions? How many are undiagnosed? And even so, do people with preexisting conditions not matter? They were living healthy lives and managing those conditions (or not even aware of them before) so now they should just be ok with dying? Ugh. Boy was I Hulk levels of rage when a SENATOR said this.

Given the recent surges everywhere due to Delta, my H is pretty adamant that our older dd not start in person TK in two weeks. I mostly agree but I'm heartbroken because she really needs the in person interaction. So now I have to figure out if I can switch her to virtual learning (they made us choose back in April). I'm hoping maybe she can do in person come January, as by then she should be vaxxed. 🤞 I’m so sorry. I think we are in the same area and I’m getting nervous about DD starting K in 2 weeks. I’m grateful masks are required and DD is used to wearing them for the last year. I sympathize because we opted out of public TK last year because of covid, but we’re lucky our current PS had a PK program and we could afford another year of tuition.

Indoor mask mandates appear imminent for the SF Bay Area. That makes me feel some comfort.

This will be interesting as a small sample since they get tested all the time and pretty much have to make a public statement if they test positive. I think they're 97% vaccinated on the Senate side (and I think the three dipshits who aren't all had Covid)?

I would love to see senior hours come back for stores and timed entry for places like museums and zoos. Something to protect more vulnerable people other than fighting with people who don’t want to mask or vaxx. I feel like those special hours should be for families of young kids and those who medically cant get the vaccine at this point over seniors. At least here, over 90% of seniors are vaxxed. I know they are still more vulnerable than adults but man it'd be nice to feel less stressed going into Target not worrying if I will get a breakthrough infection and give it to my kids.

Jen Psaki just said there won't be shutdowns again like there were last spring Sigh. I know the economy is super important and people need to work, but I think it's a mistake to totally rule it out when Delta is just getting going and we know things will get worse. As we can clearly see from Florida, some states won't make the right decisions and it will have consequences elsewhere.

Honestly - IMO and as my buddies at Trader Joe told me, many seniors/medically compromised weren't getting up at the crack of dawn to shop after the first month or two of the pandemic at major retailers. That said, the crack of dawn opening hours are supposed the safest for shoppers, due to deeper cleaning overnight, etc. I suspect if people with kids under 12 were shopping from 7:00 to 8:00 am, let's say, two weekdays a week, that might be fairly popular with all of a retailer's customers. Whether that's popular for parents? Not sure. Also kind of curious how stores would 'check' to see if people had kids under 12 if entry to the store were actually restricted. Senior hours candidates were kind of self-evident, to be honest. .

I think on top of this is the fact that the whole country also does not need to shutdown at the same level, and same for even regions within certain states based on vax % (this isn't the same as March 2020). It doesn't make sense to mandate at the federal level, and the states that would benefit would never do it. It's really shitty.

Yeah I was thinking like, those hours would be when it would feel a bit safer to have kids in the store, with masks required still for the younger ones of course (though I'm masking up everywhere again anyway). 7-8am would certainly not be ideal though. I'd prefer something on a weekend morning or afternoon. But of course they would never do that -- even though the majority of people shopping at that time are parents.

Heaven forbid breakthrough infection and transmission become frequent, I suppose that could change

Those hours were for seniors and the immune compromised so if someone really wanted to shop with Betty and Pru, they could have said they had an organ transplant I suppose. No system is going to be perfect.

And I'm sure some did fib. There are always those wanting to game the system to their own benefit.
I do feel for retailers, especially grocers with historically tight margins, trying to accommodate all the various needs and requests yet still manage staffing and maybe even turn a bit of a profit.

When my kids started at pre-school I was working 4 days per week and legit Friday after drop off I would go to Target to run my errands in peace. There were always a half dozen of us moms (IDK if they were all moms but lots of minivan so one assumes) in our activewear sitting in the parking lot at 8:55 waiting for them to open.
I still like that first hour so, so much when I can swing it.

I still only go to Target right when they open - which is 7 for us. I literally roll out of bed and look a mess, but do not care.

Dd2's rapids is negative, thank goodness. Obviously waiting for the PCR, but I feel a bit better about things. Of course, the kid perked up and started looking/ acting almost normal 2 minutes before they called us in after a 3hr wait (go figure), but I'm glad I took her in anyway.

There's a secondary pandemic in this country- heartlessness. I'm sitting in the parking lot of our local Med Express to get dd2 tested. Both younger girls came down with bugs this weekend, but while dd3 is recovered, dd2 is miserable. Fevers, runny/stuffy noses, nausea/vomiting (from the nasal drainage, AFAIK). Neither are allowed indoors anywhere, and have only been to the beach, splash pad, and our little neighborhood park. Our numbers are borderline, but in the "moderate" zone. Crossing everything that it's some other cold/virus. I hope it’s not COVID. It sounds a lot like the cold (Not COVID - YAY!) we all have here.

My county moved into the "substantial transmission" category today. Whomp whomp. H ordered us all a bunch of new masks. It was nice to go without sometimes while it lasted. Even without the designation change we are still back to full time masking regardless. Delta is scary. My parents’ county too. My mom always wears a mask indoors, but my dad had started taking his off at church functions. I lectured him today about it. Wear your damn mask inside, dad, even if it’s annoying and you’re vaccinated. I had to make my mom a single layered one so she would wear one again. Sometimes I’m not sure which is worse, DS2 or her.

Thanks to all the states who are keeping up the average. Those of us getting vaccinated in the other places are embarrassed by this group project.
