Why do I feel so much more pessimistic than the May thread 😪 (rhetorical question) Same girl, same. The start of May looked so promising with our fight against Covid. Cases trending downward. Vaccines becoming more available (sadly not everywhere outside US) Restrictions starting to lossen. (Although CDC mask guidance in May still bothers me.) Then BAM. Delta. Breakthrough cases. More misinformation. I feel like everyone (not here) has given up and said whatever. The fact is we can still make a difference with our behaviors but most can’t be bothered anymore. Ugh.

My county moved into the "substantial transmission" category today. Whomp whomp. H ordered us all a bunch of new masks. It was nice to go without sometimes while it lasted. Even without the designation change we are still back to full time masking regardless. Delta is scary.

We are canceling our trip. I feel like we should stay put for a bit and be happy that DS can be in camp safely and cross our fingers about school in a couple weeks.
And now I’ll do the same dance in a couple of weeks over a wedding.
This sucks but better safe than sorry right now.

I just booked our February trip to FL for next year, to visit my uncle and his GF. The FL news doesnt hearten me but it’s also 7 months away which is ages in this pandemic so I am not too concerned.
We DO have tickets to Seattle in late October but I’m not worrying too much yet. I feel at this point it’s not totally out of the question.

I am really happy my sister moved her wedding to the spring.
My old bff's wedding end of August is small and she asking everyone to be vaccinated. and said if you weren't vaccinated "they'd miss you". and if you were unable to be vaccinated for legit reasons, please quarantine and show negative test results. Her dad is in remission from cancer so they're not playing around.
My friend's wedding in mid September, I am choosing to not freak out right now and I will just calmly tell her I'm not going if things are really bad again.
And visiting my parents in Florida in 3 weeks. I am freaking the fuck out. I don't know if I should take DS on an airplane. But i bought him kn95s for the airport and airplane and i just don't know if I'm overreacting because it's just the airport and airplane ride. otherwise we have plans to just be with my family and do take out and seclude ourselves from others. WWYD??

My mom always wears a mask indoors, but my dad had started taking his off at church functions. I lectured him today about it. Wear your damn mask inside, dad, even if it’s annoying and you’re vaccinated.

I really hope kids can be vaccinated and FL is looking better by January. I hate the thought of canceling Disney again. 😞

He’s worn a mask all day for a full year at this point and makes no fuss about it. So we have travel booked in a couple weeks and so far we are sticking with it. I have good friends with (really good) kids who wouldn’t be able to do the same for various reasons

And as long as he has his iPad he won’t move from his spot LOL. I just have so much anxiety around it now with delta that I didn’t have when we flew in June, it’s frustrating me (and my therapist I’m sure LOL).

We are going to double mask on the plane and make sure to spend as much of our vacation time outside as possible. Mask when inside. Hand wash/sanitize/etc. I feel like we know how to do this safely and I’m trying not to panic.

We’re on vacation starting next week. It’s a staycation with day trips but now I don’t know what to do for day trips because most counties around us or that we would visit are in the substantial zone.

Cuomo is on right now and he is angry. Pushing for government jobs and school districts to all mandate vaccinations. Public hospitals in our state are already requires vaccinations for anyone high risk and public facing. He's also pushing HARD encouraging local businesses to adopt and enforce a vaccine only admittance. NY has an app that pulls up your vaccine status and makes a QR code for it, so he encouraging people to use that and for businesses to not let anyone in who can't show proof of vaccine.
Frankly, I'm perfectly ok with any place that says "no vaccine, no admittance". I know there are some places doing it already and I hope more get on board. I don't care if it pisses off the unvaxxed, this is becoming their fault so they should take the sword. With the exception of medical exemptions for vaccinations, of course. Covid deniers and vaccine refusers can STFU and GTFO for all I care at this point.

We just canceled a trip over labor day weekend to meet up with extended family (from Florida) in NC. It's just too much of a risk with school starting 2 days after we return home. We'll try to reschedule in the spring. We also have tickets to Japan for the end of February over winter break. I'm REALLY hoping we can go, but also starting to make some backup domestic plans instead.

It was a very strange time to visit the US after everything - trying to use it to feel more comfortable with Sweden?
When we arrived almost everyone was wearing a mask and when we left it felt like closer to 60%? Still a lot, but noticeably less.
I was surprised at how many people showed up to things even if their kid was sick because ‘it wasn’t Covid’. We left a few places when at swimming stuff we heard this but we’re trying to be vigilant as we were caring for my dad after open heart surgery.
Our flight to the US was great and felt safe. Our flight back the guy sitting behind us was obviously sick with something - removing his mask to cough and blow his nose. I was surprised it was allowed to happen. We were so close to cancelling when our kids got a bad cold just before departure but thankfully they fully recovered and we never got sick, so we could go. If it had happened on the flight there I would have freaked due to the surgery - but this time I just seethed inside.

I'd hate to see the legitimately unable get lumped together with the irresponsible.

My public library (on the small side) attached a note to their weekly update that all persons over two must wear a secured face covering (mask) while inside the library. My town sent out emails that the CDC recommends all wear masks indoors. I don't know that I've seen any place other than the library mandating masks, yet. I think mask wearing is going up slowly.
I wonder how they would audit true medical exemptions? Require medical records? Vet physicians to winnow out the quacks who hand out exemptions like crazy? I do see the argument that it can be a slippery slope, though. But I'm kind of past giving anyone, anywhere, a pass on vaccinations unless they're truly medically exempt.
I was thinking it's probably easier for big business to require vaccinations and/or weekly tests. They have the labor benches and financial reserves to make it a priority. I don't know so much about small business or for the unemployed or self employed. And can you imagine the uproar if unemployment or other benefits were tied to vaccination status?

I too hate seeing the people with legitimate reasons for not getting vaccinated lumped in with the people who are being irresponsible. That’s the thing that gives me hesitation about things along the lines of vaccine passports. It especially sucks because the people with legitimate reasons are part of why it’s so important the rest of the population does their part to reach herd immunity.

I have lots of feelings about this too, being an only partially vaxxed for medical reasons person this spring and the headlines of IF YOU AREN'T FULLY VAXXED YOU ARE THE PROBLEM at the time were really upsetting. And the honor system clearly doesn't work. Like with flying- only the vaxxed... ok, but there are essential reasons why the under 12 crowd needs to fly in addition to the medically unable. I know a lot of people would like to see kids banned from planes... but no.

I'd hate to see the legitimately unable get lumped together with the irresponsible. I'm sure they definitely can do that. People can also just show their vax card and ID. I imagine people who are medically exempt could also probably carry some kind of documentation to show. I would hate for them to be excluded and lumped in with the irresponsible as well. Hopefully there will be a solution since Cuomo is pushing for the no bad no entrance policy.
