I liked this article about post-vaccination 'inertia', and how people are reacting to their new post-vaccination status. 'In a matter of weeks, social life as I know it will crack open. And a pretty big part of me is flat-out terrified of what lies within that widening maw.' That said, I'm off for a mammogram today without COVID stress - and I've been to the dentist several times (including new crown and wisdom tooth removal), and various doctor appointments in person. Although every office was scrupulous on COVID precautions. And I had a short non-COVID ICU stay last July. Maybe I've been desensitized? link

MH and I get our 2nd Moderna shots this afternoon and in exactly 2 weeks, we'll be going on our first kid-free weekend since October 2019!! We're only going 30 minutes from home, but will be so nice to get away.

I'm usually a lurker in here but I had to share my experience with like-minded people. I spent 9 hours today on my feet at a mass vaccination clinic making sure people were feeling ok. It felt SO good to finally be able to give back to my community now that I'm fully vaccinated. I live in the rural Midwest and we did 1,450 2nd dose Moderna and 124 J&J when we were hoping for 50. I didn't have anyone pass out as I watched them so it was a success. I got pretty emotional walking out tonight, it surprised me. Thank you for the work you do. It matters a lot.

Some hopeful stats from my health system - zero covid deaths in 3 weeks and zero covid admissions since 4/25. Only 5 active cases in house between our main hospital and the children’s hospital. This is unimaginable from 2-3 months ago.

that's great news, jaygee. Positivity rate in my county is down to 3.7%, which is very near the lowest we ever got last year.

My youngest son came down with Covid this week, and the rest of us will be tested shortly (it's a holiday weekend so no testing, of course) -- so beyond sad that we catch it at the same time all my friends in the states are now fully vaccinated.
He got it, most probably, at school -- where they have no precautions and are also not allowed to inform parents of cases unless they meet very specific circumstances.
We had previously pulled the kids out of school any time cases spiked, but with the younger kids there seems to be a lot of asymptomatics and since we have not really traced those at all, it has been up in the air.
We are now isolating and he is recovering well -- but the amount of times I have been coughed on this weekend does not make me very hopeful. We were sooo close...

I know how hard you’ve tried to keep your family safe. Hopefully not any spread in your family and crossing my fingers for a quick recovery for your little guy.

blablabirdie, sorry to hear that - hoping your son feels better quickly and that if anyone else catches it, it will be a mild case.

That is incredibly frustrating. I hope you mange to somehow avoid it. And if not fingers crossed for it to be mild and quick. My middlest tested positive and gave it to all of us 8 days before I was eligible to get vaccinated. I felt so awful for making it so close and still getting it. I have no clue how or where she got it either. It's really difficult. I'm sorry.

Oh blablabirdie I’m so, so sorry. I know how hard it’s been for you being over there with the lax govt mandates and lack of worry over CV. I really hope the rest of you are spared / only have mild or asymptomatic cases and no long term issues. Hugs.

Thanks everyone, this place has been a lifeline even if I mostly lurk and vent. It’s been hard being on this weird island where What is going on where I am is so different from everywhere else, but you have been so supportive.

Huge socially distant hugs, and I really hope you all make it through either without getting it or with very mild cases.

People really believe this...? I am so confused. They are... worried women will get blood clots while in their store? What side effects? They sound both ill informed and sexist.
