So... for those not keeping track, I am participating in the CureVac (another mRNA vax) study and think I got the vaccine bc of my reaction. But of course I'm not sure because it is a double-blind study. Anyway, as of Monday it's my turn to get vaccinated (next group is opening up and I'm in it), and I have already been offered a Pfizer vaccination on May 12 by my OBGYN. I talked to the doctor for the CureVac study when I went in for a blood draw today and asked him what he thought I should do (he also doesn't know whether I got the vaccination or placebo). He said definitely get vaccinated bc it could be a while until CureVac is approved and vaccinates the placebo group. I feel bad about it because my suspicion is that I was vaccinated in the study, and I don't want to take a vaccination away from someone else (supply is still low here), but I'm not sure I got vaccinated, and the dr recommended I get Pfizer now no matter whether I was in the vaccination or placebo group. So I'm going to do it. I thought they're supposed to unblind you if you have the opportunity to have access to a for-sure vaccine.

So I'm going to do it. I’m really sorry for your loss. Regarding this, I don’t think you should feel badly. You participated in a research study which is more than most people did. You were selfless in that regard so you now you can be selfish (not really but you know what I mean) and get your vaccine.

Today is our anniversary, and we are fully vaccinated, so we went out to dinner for the first time since pre-pandemic. We still wore masks except at our outdoor table, but were able to relax while we ate which was... really nice. (I know people have been eating out like this for months but we were never comfortable until now.) So yeah. That’s different. MH and I are planning to do this next month once I'm fully vaxxed and I'm WAY excited about it.

I think it only makes sense to get vaccinated for sure crimsonandclover you just can't be completely 100% sure otherwise and it sounds like it could still take awhile for it to be approved.

Is the thought process that even if she did get the vaccine, they don't know if the vaccine works yet? Correct. The study doctor said that of course I'll have to leave the study, but I don't have to be unblinded. And that was his recommendation: get vaxed with Pfizer, leave the study, but don't request to be unblinded (bc then it puts the dr giving me Pfizer in an ethical bind if I'm in the CureVac vaccination group - if someone has already been vaxed they shouldn't "take" a vaccination from someone else, but there's no published data yet on CureVac's effectiveness, so being in the vaccination group means diddly squat at this point).

Omg! Pfizer announced today they're expecting approval for 12-15 year olds in June (at least in the EU? Assuming same for the US?) and for under 12s in the fall. I've got all my fingers and toes crossed that we can get the DDs in as soon as all the children in risk groups are done. DD2 really needs school to be back to normal for her mental health. She has started to struggle again.

It’s equidistant to Syracuse for us 😬

Reading fail.

Hoping this helps with getting Detroit metro vaccinated.
I worked for a bit in one of the more industrial areas there. I am choosing positivity surrounding this idea and ignore my pessimism. Let the helpers shine.

Interesting about the advice to get double vaxxed. We are aiming to go to the US this summer but probably won’t get vaxxed in time as it is not going well. My folks can sign me up for a US vax which we were ok with until the new EU vaccine passports were announced, and now everything is up in the air again. How will that work if we aren’t vaxxed in EU but love here? I know of at least two people who vaxxed in the US but live in EU so guess will see how it goes for them as we have time. One thought we had as get J&J there and Pfizer/Moderna here later if we have any issues, but not sure if that is crazy.

Officially 2nd dosed! No weird face numbing this time, so hopefully that's a sign of good things.

I have a friend who is a nurse who is pregnant with her boyfriend. They just went on a trip to FL. Said boyfriend came home with an extra special souvenir - Covid! He said he was "too busy" to get vaxxed.
1. Not shocked that her trump supporting boyfriend didnt' think it was important to get vaxxed 2. Not impressed with her for dating this dude because a: trump and b: pulling this shit when she's pregnant
So she went to her 20 week ultrasound without him.
Apparently her soon to be ex-husband also has covid and gave it to some and/or all their kids, so she hasn't seen them in 3 weeks.
Maybe I shouldn't be shocked by choice of boyfriend considering choice of husband.

Forgot my vaccine card like a noob I did too when I got my second shot. I felt pretty dumb, but the lady who checked me in was kind enough to fill out a new card with my info from both shots.

The pharmacist who gave me my shot had a very light touch. I barely even felt it. Impressive.

Now I'm sitting and waiting the 15 minutes and every so often rotating my arm like a loon in hopes of preventing the worst of the arm soreness.

I just had my first in person doc appointment (annual exam with my OB). Hello, anxiety. Just the whole act of going to an in person appointment, inside a building, around other people... woof. This is going to take some getting used to.

This is going to take some getting used to. I was like that when I went to get my mammogram. I was repeating “like no one get near me, no one cough, please let this be over soon.” In my head. Luckily it was fast and I liked the new protocols. Hopefully you have a good experience too.

I'm usually a lurker in here but I had to share my experience with like-minded people. I spent 9 hours today on my feet at a mass vaccination clinic making sure people were feeling ok. It felt SO good to finally be able to give back to my community now that I'm fully vaccinated.
I live in the rural Midwest and we did 1,450 2nd dose Moderna and 124 J&J when we were hoping for 50.
I didn't have anyone pass out as I watched them so it was a success. I got pretty emotional walking out tonight, it surprised me.
