I moved some things around and have my first dose today instead of next week. I’m going in later this afternoon.

I have my second shot tomorrow! I'm actually looking forward to the 2 hour road trip (I moved my appt up to a further location to get it a bit sooner). Time to myself and some podcasts.

My skin test was negative for PEG, which isn't surprising. The doctor's visit was overall very disappointing and I know no more now than before I went in. Why is it so hard for doctors to show an ounce of caring? He wouldn't do any testing or provide any recommendations other than the skin test for PEG, which my research shows may not even be enough. Shrugged about all of my swelling, said it will be worse next time- take advil. *shrugs* He does think it will be more appropriate for me to get the J+J shot and everybody's doing it so just get a new CDC card and pretend like the moderna never happened. I am typically not an easily box checked patient and I am used to having to argue with doctors, but like why does it have to be this way?

byjove I’m sorry for the crappy appointment. How though do we know that the moderna and j&j work well together? Like do they know if they negate each other or interfere?

He said this is what they are telling people to do, but he couldn't tell me what to expect. I don't know. I'm not even sure the best way to find out. Google is not helpful here either.

Honestly, I feel like telling people to do this is really... ethically a dark gray area. The FDA approves drugs based on the trial of like versus like. So 2 Pfizer shots, 2 Moderna, 1 J&J. It probably won't do anything bad to you, but it's 2 different types of technology. Like putting a Toyota engine in a Lexus. It's also a wasted Pfizer dose if everyone just goes and gets the J&J anyway. byjove, you're really the outlier here since you had such a serious reaction to the Moderna shot. But I really highly recommend that other people not do this.

I'm not confident that just trying another allergist locally for a second opinion is going to be very helpful unless they have experience in this. I would even take a 5 minute phone call with someone. Anything!

I thought the lab leak thing was a conspiracy theory borne from racists who liked calling it the "China virus." I guess I could see an accidental leak? The one I had seen wasn’t racially motivated but that someone working in the lab came into contact with the virus and didn’t know they were infected with it. They then spread it. But I saw that like a year ago so who knows if that’s still the thought now.

byjove I'm sorry this has all been so difficult for you and that even the doctor's are being relatively unhelpful. FWIW I have been to many allergists over the years and I have yet to find one that has good "bedside manner". They have all been very clinical and unsympathetic it seems.

I actually bring it to toyota for service because they are more knowledgeable about the hybrid system and cheaper but lemondrop I got your point!

Well, my chiro called from vacation to check on me and he is going to order all of the bloodwork I asked the allergist to check into and was refused. I'm also going to get a covid antibody test and see what my antibody levels look like. As long as my levels stay up, maybe I can wait closer to 6 months for the j+j and I think we'd all feel more comfortable with that. Because that is what the second shot is for- making the antibody levels stay up, right?

It's official!! My pilot is going back to work! 1 year and 2 months later. He will leave for training the first week of May, and will be flying again after that. He's already looking at May schedules, and contemplating Cancun overnights.
Also, he will have to be vax (he's had a lot of hesitancy) before training, so it's good news all around.

First dose of Moderna done, for me, dh, and, dd1! Go figure, I was the only one with any reaction during the wait time after- the right side of my lips and nose were tingly & numbish. Thankfully, the sensation was gone at 40 min post shot and there were no other indications of anything amiss.

I had a weird numbness/tingles after my second shot in the hand of the arm I got the shot in. But it went away after about 30 minutes.

byjove there was just a news clip on a local station about a lady who went to get her second shot and was turned away because she got hives within 4 hours of her first dose so they consider it an allergic reaction. They said they refer to cdc guidance on this which is to either have the vaccine done in an environment more suited to help if something were to arise or to switch to the j&j.

Did anyone who had a second shot already NOT have any side effects? We’re scheduled next Friday for our second dose of Moderna and I’m trying to figure out how present we’ll be with our kids over the weekend. It’s also closing weekend for the ski hill we go to, so I’m hoping we can feel ok 38 hours later to take the kids one last day.

A friend of mine got hives almost immediately after her first shot so she had to go get her second shot done at a hospital as a precaution. She was fine. #anecdote

I was tired and achy the next day, but it could also have been beceause the cats kept me up all night and I was trapped in bed with my toddler for 3 hours. By the next day I was 100%.

I had my second Pfizer shot yesterday. I was a little tired today. No big deal at all, and it's been over 24 hours. I think sometimes people are getting reactions within 48 hours, though.

Here's my family anecdotes of those who are fully vaccinated...spoiler there's no rhyme or reason for who had side effects and who didn't: Sister (33) and BIL (32) - Pfizer, no side effects My Parents (58 and 63) - Pfizer, no side effects SIL who is type 1 diabetic (38) - Moderna, fever and chills ~24 hours Brother (32) - Moderna, fever and chills ~24 hours SIL (32) - J&J, fever and chills ~24 hours Friend and her husband (both 35) - Moderna, no side effects Cousin and her son (42 and 19) - Moderna, no side effects Friend (34) - Pfizer, minor aches and headache Pregnant Friend (34) - Pfizer, no side effects
