I like OverCast a lot for a free podcast app. It works really well, and is coded to remove silences in podcasts, cutting out time.

The Flores family reaction to everything is infuriating. They say how it sucks living under this cloud of suspicion (which I’m sure is true) but they’ve been completely uncooperative every step of the way. They won’t answer the simplest questions, they fight the police on everything, and they’ve been downright hateful to the Smart family. I want them all to go to prison so badly.

I've listened to the first 4 episodes of the podcast and the whole thing is so maddening. I just can't believe the number of police errors and the behaviour of the Flores family towards the Smarts. It's making me sick.

I just started the podcast today! I’m only on the first episode though. It sounds like a she was lovely woman.

I am thinking that they are running that bit on the podcast regarding the statute of limitations to signal to other members of the Flores family that they won’t be charged with accessory after the fact.
Georgia and Karen mentioned Your Own Backyard today. They hadn’t yet listened to it.

I finished episode 6. I have so many questions.
Why do you guys think the police have been so inept/slow/dismissive of tips or evidence from the civilian investigators? The podcast says some of these civilians think there's some sort of actual cover up but I can't think of why that would be? Do you guys think the police already had evidence that ruled out the tips from civilians so that's why they just didn't bother to follow them up?
If Kristin isn't/was never at Ruben's house, why has he stayed there for so many years?
Do you guys think Paul killed the woman who worked at the Coca Cola factory?
I don't understand much about the legal system, but if Paul's lawyer sent an offer to the Smarts that he would lead them to Kristin's body if they agreed to let him plead guilty to manslaughter, how does that not count as evidence against him?!
I also want to know if the police ever got access to Ruben's work routes (from 1996 when he was servicing pay phones) and followed them up to look for places they could have dropped her body. He was so maddeningly reticent about providing that information.

If I was the Smart family, I would probably kill Paul. I know its some violence isn't the answer shit, but I don't care. They are such a trash family who have shrugged off every fucked up thing their kid did. I can't imagine living with that pain for all of these years.

He was so maddeningly reticent about providing that information. Please explain the woman in the Coca Cola factory? I haven’t had time to listen to the podcast I probably don't have all the correct details, but a woman named Amber Lee Hill was murdered in 2007 after leaving the Coca Cola factory (night shift) she worked at in San Pedro (or nearby? Whittier? I'm not familiar with the geography of that area). Paul was living in the area at the time. Her murder has never been solved and a year (or maybe less than a year?) later Paul was working for Coca Cola, too, but in a different location. So they didn't work together. But he was also very creepy to several women who worked there, repeatedly asking one woman out for a drink and saying to her, "don't worry, if you get drunk I'll take care of you". From what I could find online, it sounds like police in San Pedro communicated with the police working on the Smart case about the murder but could find nothing that connected Paul to Amber. So it's just speculation, but I wondered if anyone who knew more about Paul and this case might have some thoughts.

Ruben was apparently pretty abusive to Susan and I’m assuming probably to the kids as well. Surely that plays a big part in why Paul is the way he is.

Just finished the podcast yesterday. The Flores family are so, so guilty. How devastating for the Smarts.
Also, I was so furious at the Australian exchange student who saw people struggling (possibly Paul and Kristin), and just rode past. Things could have been so different.

Follow @okcammie on tik tok, she lives with her backyard facing Ruben's backyard and she is giving updates She came up on my fYP when she posted the first search video. It was kind of crazy because she was like, "I know nobody is going to see this" because she had like zero followers and she's now the official TikTok updater of the search. Social media is wild.

I just listened to that part and wow, to think all he had to do was go back or call campus police and report it right when he got home. Crazy. Crazy how everything just worked out so perfectly for the Flores family to cover it up.

It made me think of the Brock Turner case and how exchange students did stop that rape and if they hadn’t intervened it could have been so much worse.

So many things went perfectly wrong for a crew of dumbasses like the Flores family to get away with this for 25 years. The timing of the weekend I think in particular.

This is why I don’t think he’s killed anyone else. I don’t think he would have gotten away with it again because he isn’t smart. He just got realllly lucky.

The Ruben deposition is where I had my horrible thoughts about how I would handle this. He was being such a fucking prick, refusing to acknowledge what his son did to that other kid while he was in school. He just so smug. I feel like some Italian Philly guys need to shake them down a bit. They will find out where Kristin is.
Again, I know this is not a popular opinion. But, damn, that family deserves to bury their daughter.

The one where you paid $ because your kid put someone in the hospital? Oh, THAT lawsuit. Ahhhhhhh
