We just got back from Utah (visiting a friend that recently moved there). So, weird laws aside, there was some pretty good stuff. My favorites were Squatters Wasatch Ghostrider White IPA (canned), Uinta Hopnosh IPA (can) and Uinta Dubhe Imperial Black IPA (bottle), and Fisher Brewing Co Pale #3 (draft). Beers on draft are not allowed to be over 4% abv by law, so it was kinda cool to try sessions that actually had good depths of flavor (like the Fishers Pale #3). That's really interesting about the draft beers. I have had Uinta Hopnosh before. I really enjoyed it. I am intrigued by the Uinta Ducbe Imperial Black IPA. I will have to be on the lookout for that. DH isn't a fan of the black IPA's but I have had a few that were good.

I am not a huge fan of sessions because I feel like so many lack flavor. totally agree! Lol my friend out there calls them her "sport beers" instead of session beers because they pack them on hikes, bikes rides, etc. You can drink the 4% beers, still function to do sports and actually enjoy the drinking experience unlike a Miller Lite or something. It was also hilarious seeing growler fills for only $8... bc the beer is only 4%, you could drink the whole growler yourself lol.

I went to a beer festival 2 weeks ago and here are some favorites
Belching beaver brewery (Escondido, CA): first off I love the name! They had a mango ipa that was awesome! I don't like mango flavor at all but it was so mild and refreshing. Then I tried their peanut butter Mexican chocolate stout which was rich and tasty. If you like stouts I would recommend this. I would call this a dessert beer.
Breakwater brewing company (Oceanside, CA): DMJ ipa was amazing and I think my favorite beer of the day. They also served something called railside red that was excellent.
These two stand out to me and I will post more if I can remember them.

dogbutt, I really like Breakwater, their Rasbiscus Mead is fantastic. But we kind of boycott Belching Beaver - which is actually not an Escondido brewery. Their "head brewer" is shady as shit.

Oh oops I thought they were Escondido. Really did not know that about the head guy. Hmmm Edit: that bums me out about belching beaver. I will have to check out breakwater for their other beers!

A week ago our neighbor's son, who lives a couple states away, brought us Zombie Dust from Three Floyd's. We are just getting around to tasting it and it's delicious!
Too bad they don't distribute it around here. We might have to hit him up again next time he comes to visit.

We had Nimble Giant from Troegs last weekend, it was amazing! Also tried Two Roads Too Juicy, which tasted like a slightly lighter Sip of Sunshine. Both awesome beers!

It's a wheat beer and it is excellent. Gorch Fock is only available in bombers, but it is one of the best American made helles (helleses? Hellesi?) available.

We haven't tried it yet though b/c DH is saving it for our annual Tasting Party in which we try beers that are in the book "1001 Beers You Must Taste Before You Die". We are going on 8 years and it is getting harder and harder to find the beers in the book. Gumball Head is one of them though. If he can get it, I will definitely ask him to pick up "Gorch Fock" next time. I know their to-go beers are on a rotation.

I tried a beer I really did not enjoy last night. It was so bad, I dumped it...and that rarely happens. It was Mocha IPA by Stone. It started out decent, but towards the finish the mocha flavor was so strong and tasted fake (if that even makes sense). Has anyone tried this, and what did you think about it?

I tried it and didn't care for it. It was a drain pour for me as well. I thought the hop+mocha combo was not married well so neither flavor really shone through.

Going to Equilibrium brewery tomorrow with a group. Anyone been there? I have not been. Let me know what you think of it. I am probably about 3-4 hours from there. If it's good, might be worth a trip down.

If it's good, might be worth a trip down. Good beers. Not worth a trip by itself. It is attached to a brewpub, the brewery is nothing special. There are other breweries in that area, so would be worth a trip if you brewery hop. Hoptimization and MC2 were the best beers there, imo.

I'm just going through this thread now. mapleme your business looks so awesome. I'm definitely going to order my H some hot sauce for xmas. And probably some mustard for me. We live about 20 minutes from treehouse brewing company which is huge around here. They do a lot of IPAs. I like mostly wheat beers and fruity beers. Not a huge fan of IPAs. H was always an IPA guy but has branched out to stouts and porters. We love going on brew tours it's always a good time! We did make it out to Russian River once and that was really nice. UO re Russian River...I was probably more excited about their pizza sticks than I was about the beer! Oh one other thing has anyone who has visited the alchemist also gone to prohibition pig? It's a restaurant close by that tends to have heady topper on tap and they have this chicken and biscuit appetizer that has honey drizzled over it...so good! It's possible I am really in this beer thing for the food. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

You can't get it around here, so it's kind of a White Whale for a lot of people. I had Pliny when we were in SF and thought it was just ok. I much preferred Bear Republic's Racer 5.

I enjoy trying craft brews. If we go out to a brewery/restaurant, i like trying a flight of their brews.
