Ls2012, That list is a little much--it definitely should have been organized better like by date--but in a quick glance-it seems like a bunch of things are things that you wouldn't have to purchase or just have access to (spoon, objects to measure, paper, cups, etc) I think it is just overwhelming in its entirety.

This is absolutely infuriating. I’m so sad. It’s just so wrong that this is the condition we are in. I know it’s just highlighting the inequity that’s been there all along but it’s so extra cruel during a pandemic.

My 2nd grader is pencils, pencil sharpener, lined notebook, blank white paper, crayons, markers, headphones. Chrome book provided. Uncaripswife are you similar? Where'd you get a list from? I know nothing. DD’s school sent a link to a google docs list in one of the umpteen emails we received this week.

But I’ll be back from the beach tomorrow and more in a headspace to apply myself to fall planning.

Our gov posted a photo of him at our state fair from last year and said something along the lines of keep wearing masks and social distancing so we can get back to this next year (this is our normal state fair week). I got sad because I realized that at this point, I’m so pessimistic about this country that I still can’t imagine myself being comfortable going next year.

What the heck is on that list? Well, this is the math list for kindergarten. And then there are similar lists for ELA, science, and social studies. No single item seems crazy, but taken in it's entirety? Exhausting. If someone handed me 4 of these lists, I would laugh at them, ignore it and get the basics.

We don’t buy supplies in my district (I mean we donate to the organization that buys them for all students, but we don’t buy individually for our kids) and I am forever grateful for it. Especially this year since so much is out of stock.

This is a interesting case study. I just wouldn’t do indoor dining right now. Even if it became an option in my area.

I did it once, but we were at a high top table that was next to open windows and there were only two other tables in the restaurant. But I will happily dine in the street or on a rooftop And I get heart palpitations when indoor dining is suggested.

I eagerlyrly clicked through with hope that this would suggest that cloth masks for actually, even somewhat, protect the wearer (because maybe people would do it if they thought it protected themselves?) But it looks like the employees were wearing a Korean made version of the N95.

I haven't eaten at a restaurant yet, even outdoors, but it's also been hot AF here. Once the lovely crisp autumn Saturdays arrive I might possibly venture out for a patio brunch on the river.

Do keep in mind that N95 masks (or their equivalent) are plentiful and the public has easy access to them so it’s likely the employees were wearing those and not regular cloth face coverings.

No single item seems crazy, but taken in it's entirety? Exhausting. Whoa. No nope nope nope. That teacher needs feedback that that kind of list is simply not feasible for parents to organize. Suggestions for improvement: 1) by date so it can be done in steps 2) a fee to receive a bag of all this stuff to be sure it's what the teacher wants

This way everyone has the same thing, the teachers get to be as particular as they want (looking at my oldest kid's kindergarten teacher who specified an exact assortment of Pipsqueak markers he needed), and it's easy to waive the fee for FARMs families.

My favourite is that the round stickers are the only item that's "optional"

Or public school could be free like it's supposed to be, so parents don't have to buy any supplies needed in the classroom.
Oh, there isn't enough money for that? How about we stop arming police like soldiers and use that money for crayons instead?

Hole reinforcers? Good job stickers in a circle shape? 1" stickers? 3" stickers? I would go insane with this list.

I used those a lot when teaching (but I bought them myself or put them on my wish list on Amazon)

I think my email to the virtual school coordinator might have been a bit rude. "4 pages of supplies? Are you kidding me?" But seriously, would it have killed them to take out the redundancies between classes, and list when they're needed by date/ lesson? I was told they're not "essential" items, but it would be helpful for parents to see how stuff on this list is being used so they can gauge for themselves if they'll be helpful for their student(s). At this point, I'm just annoyed. We start in a week and info is soooo slow coming.

I'm using them with DD next week having her match uppercase letters to their lowercase counterparts, for example (a paper has capital letters on it and the stickers have lowercase; She'll place the sticker with the lowercase letter on its uppercase counterpart). Or you make an imaginative play station that's a grocery store and you mark prices with the stickers, then have kids calculate the total cost of items their friends purchase. Any number of things, really, but that's not the kind of thing I put on the "every child should bring this list." (And I'm NOT saying the teachers should just buy this stuff on their own)

The list should have been broken down by these are thing we will use in schooling, but you likely already have these things in your home (or similar items that can be used for class) and list the things like fruit, and bowl, plate, measuring cups, old toothbrush,
Toys that you if you have, these will be useful for schooling like teddy bears, legos, animal toys etc.
These things we would like you to purchase as regular daily useable school supplies: and list paper, pencils, crayons, paper clips rubber bands, etc.
wish list of specialty educational materials with links of where to buy them (or if they are available virtually )
and these things we might need for special projects in the first month or 1st quarter

How many parents would already know that? This list is just the kind of thing that stresses parents out even more.

We keep getting invited (to restaurants and shit like birthday parties 🤯) I won’t do either, especially birthday parties, but my anxiety kicks in at the thought of a restaurant. I had an anxiety attack pulling into Kroger bc of so many cars. I just can’t be around people unnecessarily. The risk is just too high.

My entire district elementary grade list fits on one sheet of paper. I’m boycotting watercolors this year because every year we buy them and every year they come back pristine
