jaygee that is so fucked. I feel very lucky that my employer is so accommodating to working parents of young children. I return to work on Monday but everything I have been told is that things are going to be very flexible, and my boss emphasized that even if people start returning to the office, she would understand if I worked from home longer because of my small babies. It’d be cool if everyone could just be cool like that. Especially with how this is going to disproportionally effect working moms.

There are pockets of challenges - one of my employees has a 18 month old and I’ve gotten feedback that people are over hearing him during calls, but I’m supporting her through that and hopefully he is going back to daycare in some capacity soon (her choice). But for the most part, there is good consideration. And my boss is in a district where her two elementary aged kids are going to start virtually so that made me more comfortable electing distance learning for my son.

As we get closer to starting school, I am seeing more of my department managers making these types of out of touch comments.
Our CEO is great and has young children around 5-7 years old who jump in on his virtual Town Halls. He speaks with such encouraging and understanding words. He reassures us that this is not close to being over and how working from home has improved productivity.
Then in my department meeting this week, department management say we will be the demo group for the work from home policy for when this is all over. 5 of 30 have elementary school aged kids or younger, the rest have high school or older children.
I don't feel like it is the right time to answer more surveys or criticize for working on dining room tables. These managers have stayed working in the office even though they worked at home many times before this pandemic.
One of them commented that the new policy will require work during business hours. Luckily my direct boss is flexible so I work extra early or stay late to get things done since everything takes longer with more need for kid breaks during the day. Such as last night, management didn't finish something until 8pm. So I signed back in to finish my part so they can present reports on Monday.
I am likely extra sensitive to this with the unpredictable school year and my extra busy time at work starts now in August through October.
I am just not sure what I should do because I need to have more time for my 5 year old and have less demand from my job.

orangebird2020 the kids can’t be in the room when you’re working and the work must be done during business hours has been low key simmering at my work too. I have used my leadership position to point out issues with those statements. So far they haven’t come from the top so I’m not too worried, but ugh...like we are all trying our best O....K....

I really do hope this leads to more remote working. Once it's safe to leave our houses it would likely improve quality of life for a whole lot of people. We've sat down to dinner as a family pretty much every night since this thing started. We were never able to make that happen before.

I don’t think this will be the last new Capitol case we hear about this week. Gohmert exposed so many people and it’s just infuriating. Pro life my ass.

We've sat down to dinner as a family pretty much every night since this thing started. We were never able to make that happen before. And here I am where the opposite is about to be true. They are messing with scheduling at H's work and he's not one that can work remotely. He'll be moving from 4am-12:30pm shift to most likely 3pm-11:30pm shift. Or, if we're really not lucky 11pm-7am. It's supposed to roll out in a week and they still have no idea what shift they're on or what their work day will look like. He is janitorial staff for a major university and supposedly this is so they can get things clean earlier. But it really makes no sense. The students come back in a couple of weeks (doing a blended online and in person there) so hopefully they figure this out soon.

Oh no athn64 that sounds stressful :-( It is. It makes no sense. We're just hoping and praying H gets moved to the afternoon shift and not the night shift. The kids are doing a 2 day hybrid model for schooling this fall, so I will have them home 3 days of the week, and if he's trying to sleep, we'll all be miserable. I'm thankful he has a job still and that it pays well and has good benefits, so I'm trying to think of the positives.

Y'all I just. Ugh.
My parents closed on their house yesterday. They told me they were staying at a friend's beach house until their flight at the beginning of September to permanently relocate to Portugal.
My mom just texted me "on our way to Yosemite".
I do not understand.

Less pollution because less traffic is my top. Not to mention if you don’t need a huge office think of the overhead cost savings

I would not be surprised if my employer puts out a letter like U of A. That is essentially the message they have been sending. Come in or take an (unpaid) leave. Also higher ed.
Also just signed my kid up for hybrid 2nd grade. What is this world?

Have we discussed these? My school district is doing a hybrid 2 days/week until Nov 2nd at which point if there hasn’t been a huge increase in cases (they have a minimum) they will open to 100% of the time. I have extenuating issues with a spouse who works overseas so we’ll be quarantining for 14 days every 8-12 weeks when he comes home from his rig.
This is what I’m worried about. Many here are getting relaxed as most towns aren’t reporting any cases anymore. But the town in MA right across the border has 55 cases and most of them shop in our NH town because we’re tax free.

I wonder what will happen in states that have had a better response. We also have the hybrid 2 day thing. But ours has no end date. I do worry a lot. But we have only 2 positives in our whole county right now.
