Also, Dr. Cox, remember that a lot of science is just how life works. At the kindergarten level, you really could just work it into daily life by observing and explaining, like on nature walks or while cooking or whatever. A couple of days ago, we got into the difference between endothermic and exothermic reactions when we were cleaning up a stain on pavement and tried different methods. But I’m kind of a curriculum junkie so I like having it formalized. Just throwing out that it’s possible to do a good job without spending money on a text if you’re conscious about it. I’ve been trying to be aware of the fact that this isn’t a long term investment for most people 🙂 This is a good reminder for myself. I have moderate to severe ADHD, and am drowning to be honest. Without a text curriculum that outlines all of the steps, all of the necessary materials, etc, I’m afraid I’m going to fuck it up. I asked him what he wanted to learn about and he told me: the weather, bugs, tomatoes, cheetahs, and how a microwave works, so maybe I can just build off of that? We are doing Real Science Odyssey's Life unit this year and other than the microwave it seems like it would be right up his alley of interests! The website says it is aimed towards 1st/2nd but really it is pretty basic. One page you would read to him then a couple quick "labs" that are pretty basic. Check out their website, they have a try before you buy where you can download a sample. If you want to PM me I can share more pics of the book if you want.

You leave it up and respect the emotional labor done for your benefit. You think I deleted those posts in that one thread because of the conversation in that thread? 😂😂😂😂 I've been in the CD group for a few years - I've been deleting my posts for a while now. As I said my reasons are no one's business but my own.. I thought you were done with us...

I was going to check in but maybe I'll just slide into next week's earlier, before...whatever this is happens again. 😆
Nah, why wait. I can't remember all the questions but I have a 5-yr old kindergartener, and a rambunctious adorable 3.5-yr old who will be tagging along while we explore Blossom and Root curriculum with some Wild Math thrown in.
I never considered homeschooling but pandemic made me take a look, and we're now planning on it for as long as we can. I'm a SAH parent and my husband already works from home and can do his job from anywhere with an internet connection, so we're anticipating traveling a lot in the future.
I'm three books in to learning about homeschooling philosophies and really excited, but also worried my general lack of patience will be our downfall. To date I have leaned heavily on part-time preschool for all arts because fuck art projects, so I'll have to expand my heart and soul and mind quite a bit.
I'm also convinced everyone in my area who homeschools is religious or anti-vax or both, based on the FB groups, but maybe when co-ops and things are reopened I'll be surprised.

Okay, @pipandme I see your re-educating yourself was insincere. Please don’t ask me for help deleting posts in the future. I see you now.

I like the idea of taking down the statues but leaving the horses. Those horses did nothing wrong! This is a compromise we should consider. Turn them into unicorns. Maybe use glitter

R doesn't like touching bugs so I'm hoping this gets him to step out of that comfort zone a bit. H has been trying to hold me back from starting "too early" but Monday it is on! After R's Dr appointment. 🤣 Though now I'm starting to question not getting an actual language arts/grammar curriculum

I’m in a larger city in TX and that’s all I can find here. I was finding the same thing here in South Carolina. If you haven’t already, I joined the SEA (Secular, Eclectic, Academic) group on FB and was able to find some like-minded people in my area that way.

If I knew how to share GIFs, I’m not sure I could even find an appropriate GIF for the cycle of emotions I’ve encountered reading this thread.
Maybe 17 distinct GIFs would work.
Just wow.

For a more funny memoir feel, I really liked The Year of Learning Dangerously by Quinn Cummings. It’s super funny and relevant right now because she kind of got forced into it. ETA: Messed up one of the titles 🤦♀️
