So is this resentment at having to answer “working?” Does it truly matter why I refuse to say SAH or work? No dear, no one gives a fuck, it was when you were insulting to other people.

Also, Dr. Cox, remember that a lot of science is just how life works. At the kindergarten level, you really could just work it into daily life by observing and explaining, like on nature walks or while cooking or whatever. A couple of days ago, we got into the difference between endothermic and exothermic reactions when we were cleaning up a stain on pavement and tried different methods. But I’m kind of a curriculum junkie so I like having it formalized. Just throwing out that it’s possible to do a good job without spending money on a text if you’re conscious about it. I’ve been trying to be aware of the fact that this isn’t a long term investment for most people 🙂 This is a good reminder for myself. I have moderate to severe ADHD, and am drowning to be honest. Without a text curriculum that outlines all of the steps, all of the necessary materials, etc, I’m afraid I’m going to fuck it up. I asked him what he wanted to learn about and he told me: the weather, bugs, tomatoes, cheetahs, and how a microwave works, so maybe I can just build off of that?

I don’t know when, I’m guessing soon after she got the backlash. No I deleted my comments well over a week ago. Since it is all such a big deal to all of you. One of the comments that I deleted that may or may not have been quoted was my realization that the shit that the public schools taught as history was lies and not even whitewashed history. I've been spending my time since then relearning/reevaluating history. But I'm done with this forum. You leave it up and respect the emotional labor done for your benefit.

The master's I'm working on right now is in STEM curriculum and instructional design. Same goes for anyone.

I love asking what the boys want to learn and then making a unit based on that. But if he’s interested in nature topics, I think B&R or the RSO Life book would be a good fit if you want a guide. They are both nature study heavy. One of our activities last year with RSO was to plot out a bit of our yard and observe it for bugs and things.

Abolitionists existed. People knew that shit wasn't right. The only history erasure going on is when books whitewash the fuck out of everything and say things like "the Civil War was fought because of states' rights" and gloss over Columbus' fuckery. None of that has to do with statues. Yes. "States' rights" is such revisionist history. The articles of the confederacy had several articles that explicitly forbade members from passing any laws that freed/supported/improved the lives of slaves, including barring voting rights and such. Rich white debutantes worked tirelessly to build the "honorable confederate" narrative after the war was over, because the truth made them uncomfortable and it was easier to change the narrative than to engage in meaningful self-reflection. And if you need to have a statue of any of those fuckwads looming over you because "it's an important conversation piece" you're an idiot. And I wouldn't trust you to have those conversations accurately or honestly anyways - you're probably just indoctrinating your kids with that whitewashed shit.

Call me zany, but I always thought the thing was that if you lost the war, you didn't get the statues.
Unless it was like a cartoonish one so you could stand there and go "nah nah, we won, you lost."
I've also not seen a civil war monument that I can think of, and still knew it happened. And I went to school in FLORIDA. They barely knew what numbers were.

I always think it’s ironic that the BUT THE HISTORY! people are the same ones who cheer when we hit the statues and symbols of countries we’re at war with. When we toppled Hussein’s statue it was all about avenging oppression. Lee’s statue? It’s “why is BLM so destructive?!”

The winner of wars aren't always the good guys, tho. In other cases I can see coming back later with memorial statues. But you know, clearly confederates are not fucking heroes and they don't deserve the honor of that kind of public remembrance.

I’m pretty sure Kida didn’t ask for SAH/Working to shame one or the other...it’s to share ideas and challenges. That’s the point of the thread. I don’t even know why I’m here I’m not homeschooling. But this is some shit. Kida just burn it down and start a new thread. Lol I didn’t originally come into this thread because I assumed it was for people who do traditional homeschool, especially those new to it during Covid, and not virtual learning as we are doing. But obviously I am nosy and had to check it out.

@pipamdme also doesn’t support BLM and says other problematic stuff. She’s deleted her posts, but they’re still quoted on the CD 2020 thread. I deleted my posts in the CD board for reasons that are no one's business but my own. The quoted posts were only a small portion of the whole conversations so y'all that want to harass/make fun of me for the parts that were quoted can __________ fill in the blank however you chose. I said I'm a full time parent because sah/work is a touchy topic for me. Full time parent seemed the neutral answer. Fuck off into next week.

My kids absorb so much more when it’s something they are interested in. Let him deep dive on that stuff! Also, I’m going to be honest and say that if you are just doing it for this covid year, I wouldn’t even worry about science at all. Not that it isn’t important. But my focus would be on learning to read (if he doesn’t already) and math. Those are the subjects that really build on themselves and would be what I devote most of my time too and great if we get to the other stuff. My advice would be different for someone that wanted to homeschool long term, but in panic schooling, I would give yourself some grace if you don’t get to it.

I asked DS2 what his goals were for this year and he said “learn to read real books, learn to write better (he has some small motor issues), and learn how to superglue stuff.”
