I’m trying to get into Winter Solstice, but I feel like it’s off to such a slow start. Should I keep on? I started Midnight Library also and I’m flying through it (compared to my normal anyway). Yes! How far along are you? I think after the second chapter you start to see where things are going. I really enjoyed it. Me too! It was one of my favorites of 2020

I just finished In Five Years. It was ok. I think I enjoy books that have perspectives of more than one person. It would have been nice to know more about the other characters.
I starting Now You See Me by Sharon Bolton. I could use a good suspense.

I finished The Woman in White. That brings me to 68 this year. I started Pilgrim’s Progress as my driving to work audiobook slog. I think I will try to get through 2 more books to bring me to 70 for 2020.

I just finished book three in the little shoppe of found things series. It’s time travel historical fiction and they are easy, quick reads. I prefer Susanna Kearsley books for this but I have already read all of hers. Does anyone have any good time travel/historical fiction recommendations?

I finished the Invisible Life of Addie LaRue. I agree with kittyriot on her 2 star rating. I thought it was pretty boring and any time I started to get into the story it would take me to another year and I'd have to start all over. It was well written just not my style of book. I started One to Watch last night and am flying through that so far.

I got 100+ pages in and it wasn’t doing it for me. The Midnight Library ended up being my quickest read of the year. Loved.

I finished For Better or Cursed, the second in the Babysitters Coven series and it was a fun, light read. Now I am working my way through a few horror novellas to make it to 100 books read this year.

Has anyone read Barbarian Days: A surfing life? My friend, who is not a surfer one teeny tiny bit, recommended it to me and said it's a fantastic book about so much more than surfing. Amazon has really good reviews too. I'm about 20% in and so far it's just surfing and getting boring.

I finished Firefly Lane. It was a good book but heartbreaking. I wasn’t ready for the direction it took at the end.
I’m starting The Flight Attendant next.

I cannot make myself stop reading a book after I’ve started so I finished Winter Solstice and it was not my favorite. I tend to think that by 100 pages I know what rating I’m probably going to give the book (barring terrible or fantastic endings) so you gave it a more than fair shot! I’m looking forward to reading Midnight Library! It is backordered at my independent bookstore so I’m waiting til they get it in.

Just finished the Alice network and it was ok. It was longer than it needed to be. The nightingale was much better.

January picks are already up for BOTM. This is my first time getting to pick at the start with everyone else. I know many people pick more than one, but I’m the library girl that can barely believe I am about to buy my first book, so I’m only going with one 😂 I chose The Prophets by Robert Jones Jr. I got The Dating Plan! I liked The Marriage Game by the same author so I was excited the sequel was a choice! Choosing my BOTM club book I had been such a monthly highlight in a year that has had nothing to recommend it.

It took me forever but I finally got through Here’s Looking at You by Mhairi McFarlane. I know I was just saying how much I love her, but I didn’t like this book at all. It was one of my few 2 star ratings on Goodreads. It was just overly long and one of those rare romances where I was rooting against the male lead.
Anyway, Christmas is over so I’m going back to a thriller. I’m reading Sharon Bolton’s most recent book, The Split. Reviews are just ok on it, but I’ve enjoyed all of her other books, so hopefully I’ll like this one, too.

I saw that Tarryn Fisher, who wrote The Wives, has a new thriller out today. I really liked The Wives, even if it was kind of absurd lol, so I’m excited for her new one.

I’m so excited to be getting into it. I was so resistant to doing it, because I love the library, but now I’m in a million BOTM FB groups (buy/sell/trade) and I’m all giddy about it! I might need to make a FB account just for books. This was a hard year, and FB was very triggering for me, but I had committed to taking and posting a picture a day back on January 1, 2020. Once the new year hits, I thought about deactivating my account, but I love it for my reading groups. It’s something I need to figure out for sure!

I loved Midnight Library. Invisible Life of Addie LaRue was also good for me but didn’t seem to weave the magic and real life as well. I questioned some of the logistics.
I’m into books that have that magic realism aspect but they have to be tight with their rules of what makes the world work. I didn’t always feel that Addie LaRue was consistent. Midnight Library touched on so much more emotions, which made the magic part less noticeable to me.
Matt Haig’s How to Stop Time is great if Midnight Library was a fave.

I have the latest on hold. I feel like after 27 books in the series I can never give up.

Already on Bridgerton #3... there is definitely a Georgette Heyer vibe to them I don’t hate.

I just started Nora Robert’s The Awakening, the first of the Bridgerton series is coming next week, and DH got me a Read, Romance, Repeat subscription from The Ripped Bodice for Christmas. Hoping to start off 2021 with some good reads, since everything else is shit.

I’m reading Mexican Gothic right now. I’m about 70% through. This book is getting very disgusting and there’s just not enough story...

I was really disappointed with Mexican Gothic, especially since it got so many good reviews and I really enjoyed Gods of Jade and Shadow by the same author.

I don’t mind a horror every once in a while but I want a real story there. Alma Katsu is an amazing horror author because she takes the time to build a real and compelling story.

I wish I could find a book club around here! For those in one, how did you find it? This is kind of a virtual book club here but I’d love to discuss some things in depth and be pushed out of my comfort zone. I guess I need to google.
