I just finished We are Wolves, which is a horror/dark fiction short story collection by some of my favourite indie horror writers and all proceeds went towards organizations that help women in domestic abuse situations. I really enjoyed most of the stories and would recommend it if you like horror/dark fiction.

A week in winter was pretty meh for me, but I finished it!
I started the bear and the nightingale and am struggling to get into it, but I have a box in a series I read coming out next week so I’m going to and power through it. I know a lot of you here liked it. Maybe I’m in a reading funk.

If The Bear and the Nightingale also got good reviews here, ignore me!

I used to like Elin. All her books started to sound the same, though.

I enjoyed book two and three in the series better than the first, but you need the first for the background info. Keep at it!!

My mom bought me The Sirens of Titan by Kurt Vonnegut and I feel like she purchased a book she likes because she thinks I should like it. I don’t think it will be my first book of 2021.

I picked this book up based on recommendations from here as well and didn’t really know what it was about. I kept reading because clearly people enjoyed it enough to recommend. Being the way that I am, I trudged on to see what all the fuss was about. Ch 3 is definitely too early to give up. I hope it picks up for you soon.

I finished the Invisible Life of Addie LaRue
I rated it a 2. I liked the premise, and the glances through history. HATED the love story, found it maudlin and over the top. It just didn’t connect for me at all. And it looks like it’s going to be a series??
Do others know if that’s correct?

Tagging emma to say I've just finished The Woman in White. So much better than Dickens! Thank you for the recommendation, I'll be reading more of Wilkie Collins. Next up is Red, White & Royal Blue. Now to investigate this drama y'all are talking about. somehow I missed this. But late yay I’m glad you liked it! I find his writing so clear and enjoyable you could almost forget he’s a Victorian author.

I just finished Station 11. I really enjoyed it. Not quite as much as The Glass Hotel, but close.
My hold just came up for In Five Years so I’ll start that tomorrow.

I had lots of time to read last night thanks to the stupid fireworks going off all night so I made a lot of progress with Addie LaRue. I'm starting to really get into it! Looking forward to finishing this weekend.

I think I read it over two days. The Nightingale is a 5 star book but it's an emotional read. Like, I needed time to process it. So I would say that first if you are in the right headspace.

I just finished Red Dragon (the first Hannibal Lector book) and am properly freaked out. I need to read something to cleanse my brain before bed so I don’t have nightmares! Off to my favorites on my kindle-I’m thinking a reread of The Devil Wears Prada is in order.

I remember reading Silence of the Lambs decades ago and getting nightmares.

I ended up reading barefoot because I wasn’t sure I wanted heavy. It wasn’t heavy but it wasn’t light either. You can tell it was her early work

January picks are already up for BOTM. This is my first time getting to pick at the start with everyone else. I know many people pick more than one, but I’m the library girl that can barely believe I am about to buy my first book, so I’m only going with one 😂 I chose The Prophets by Robert Jones Jr.

Absolutely agree re: the nightingale. It was wonderful but exhausting.
