I finished Suite Francaise. I think at best I'll hit 65 books this year. Pandemics are such a reading damper. Have you seen the movie? I haven’t read the book, but I thought the movie was so good. Matthias Schoenaerts, I love him. (As an actor, I mean, not as a Nazi...) I haven’t. It was definitely good and worth being canon, since it is the first fiction about WWII. From my reading they mostly use the second novel for the movie.

I very rarely give 5 stars to books. I finish everything I start, due to my annoying personality not allowing me to quit, so I feel like I mostly rate things a 2 or a 3. I’m always so interested to hear how others rate things on Goodreads. 5 stars are my absolute will recommend, 4 is solid and kept thinking of characters/setting /plot after the fact, 3 ranges from entertaining but not earth shattering to finished it somehow. 2s are dismal. Never rated anything a 1 yet.

I rate very similar to you. 5 - my best books of the year 4 - very solid showing, liked you a lot 3 - you were good/okay 2 - did not care for you 1 - hated/DNF (though I admit, I occasionally DNF 2’s, some days I just can’t be bothered, too many good books out there to read).

Upon looking, its Rachel hollis with Girl Stop Apologizing and also The Latte Factor which was supposed to be about how to save money but was essentially a dude mansplaining to idiot women about not buying coffees and then being rich. LOL probably my most hated book of all time.

I just finished the hearts invisible furies and you are all right in that I wouldn’t call it boring. I had forgotten exactly why I didn’t finish. It was getting exhausting. There were so many different stories told and many were just completely unbelievable. I felt like some things could have been dug into more and others just felt like filler. I also found Cyril to be pretty selfish and annoying for most of it. 🤷♀️
I’m glad I finished and got closure. Off to The Glass Hotel next.

I finished the first Bridgerton book, so I’m ready to binge the Netflix series next weekend. I wish the others had Netflix covers because I really dislike traditional romance cover art and it makes me not want to buy them. But I do want to read them...

I am still reading A Gentleman in Moscow and feel like I will until the end of time. (I’m enjoying it, though.) It’s 3 days overdue, but my library just eliminated fines, so 🎉 I felt the same reading this but I’m glad I stuck with it and finished. The way it wrapped up was pretty good.

I may have given nine perfect strangers a 2, but idk I err on the side of giving a better rating so I probably gave it a 3.

I turned on Colin Jost’s audio book while I was making lunch and started crying when he talked about the difference speech therapy made for him. It made me remember how my oldest came out of her shell with speech therapy and I wasn’t expecting that emotional outburst from myself.

I mostly stopped rating things on Goodreads. It’s too much decision-making for me. 😅

I’ve been trying to stick to lighter reads this month and save my usual murder and mayhem reads for after Christmas. I read a romcom, The Real Deal by Lauren Blake, a couple of days ago. It was my first book by her and I hated it. It was everything I hate about bad romcoms - unrealistic characters and manufactured drama. I’m relatively picky about my romances admittedly but I thought this one was pretty terrible! On the flip side, I’m reading Don’t You Forget About Me by Mhairi McFarlane now and I think it’s great. I like that her books have some substance and are cute and fun without being ridiculous. I consider my discovery of Mhairi to be a bright spot in my year! Same! I’m pretty sure I got the recommendation from here - maybe from you lol. I finished Don’t You Forget About Me and am now starting Here’s Looking at You. Her books are the perfect sweet, funny escape I’m looking for right now!

I rate books on good reads the same way I rate movies. If it successfully entertained me I’ll probably give it a 3 or 4. I save 5s for books I couldn’t put down and want to talk to someone about

So my aunt always buys my single aunt stuff for her stocking and just can’t get out to the store so I picked up a few things but I’m thinking of throwing a book in too. I got the one she wanted for Christmas.
She is a Danielle steel person. Do you think she would like an Elin Hilderbrand book?

One of my mom’s friends is a huge Danielle Steel fan and she also loves Elin Hilderbrand.

I gave up on In A Holidaze by Christina Lauren. Should I push through? I am finding it boring.

I gave up on In A Holidaze by Christina Lauren. Should I push through? I am finding it boring. It wraps up very nicely with a perfect happy ending, so if you aren’t enjoying it I wouldn’t push through. It’s a pretty steady pace all the way.

Which should I start with? Anything Black Mirror-esque perks my interest! Read The One first! I actually liked The Passengers a little bit more, but there's a fun reason to read The One first that I can't say. Done with Passengers. It was a fun read! Thanks for the tips

Just stayed up much too late starting and finishing If I Never Met You from Mhairi McFarlane. That was so nice, I normally don't go for romance anymore but this was done right. Another great tip from here!

I finished The Glass Hotel and really liked it. So many stories that weave into each other! I started Station 11 today.

I listened to the audiobook of How to be an Artist, and I realllly liked it. Very practical tips. I went searching for a PDF of the artists he suggested we look at or imitate and found a really good summary of the whole book with all the steps! If you are at all interested in becoming more creative but not really sure how to start or what to do, I would definitely recommend you check this out. cpb-us-w2.wpmucdn.com/u.osu.edu/dist/4/41163/files/2020/01/How-to-Be-an-Artist-Jerry-Saltz.pdf
