I was just mentioning to mh that I'm not sure what supplies go into the class collection and which he gets to hold onto. He picked out folders and some special pencils. But I'm not sure he needs to hold onto all 30 pencils or 15 glue sticks. We put some stuff in his pencil box so I hope is ok

Sometimes C has helped himself to multiple breakfasts by the time I go downstairs at 6:30am. I am jealous of those fighting to wake their kids up. Pru is the same. I think I’ve woken her up once in her life and been late to work once in my life (shocking,it was the same day) because she didn’t wake me up by 6. School here doesn’t start until after 9 and gets out after 3 (we still don’t know exactly which school she’s going to and there’s a 30 minute swing before start and end depending on which one she gets into). She starts 8/26 and gets out sometime near the end of June depending on snow days. 1 week fall break, 1.5 weeks Christmas break, 1 ski week in Feb, 1 week spring break and all federal holidays.

I haven't gotten a list yet. I'm unsure when he starts school (I know it's after labor day) and I don't know the times of school... So I clearly have some prep work to do. I DO know he's riding the bus, so there's that! I know nothing until our am/pm assignments come in the mail this week.. I thought everyone had full time kindergarten now!

I have rarely set an alarm for work since having E but he's enjoyed sleeping in later when he doesn't take a nap now. So alarms start in 1week

Last night was the first night of earlier bedtime. We only bumped it up by half an hour and gave her melatonin. She was asleep within 15 minutes. Nice.

We find out what class she is in August 6th. Back to school night is after school starts I think. I need to look it up and put it in my calendar. But I remember seeing it, thinking 'that's dumb.'

That’s typically how it works in this area. Meet the teacher is one hour during the day before school officially begins for kids to come in and see their classroom, who’s in their class, and to put things away in their desks/lockers. Open house is at night usually two weeks after school starts (although at the high school mh and I worked at sometimes it was as late as mid October). It’s just for parents to go and hear about the curriculum, the specials, etc. My nieces live in the south and they combine both of these activities to one day over the summer before the first day of school and it makes so much more sense to me.

Yes, I want Back to School night so Evie can meet her teacher see her class, put her stuff away, etc. The first day of K has to be pretty overwhelming for a 5 year old. I'm glad to hear my district isn't the only weirdos though!

Not that I've heard. I'm not putting E on the bus. I have friends whose kids have ridden the bus at this age and they enjoyed it. I don't think E would do well. She's so reserved at first, I'm pretty sure she would cry the entire way to school, and we live like 2 or 3 miles from the school. For now, the grandparents will take her to and from school.

Last night was the first night of earlier bedtime. We only bumped it up by half an hour and gave her melatonin. She was asleep within 15 minutes. Nice. M fell asleep in Mhs car on the way home yesterday afternoon and refused to wake up at home. I was ok with him sleeping for 30 min because Mh said he was stuffy all afternoon, so I wondered if he felt kinda crappy. So no early bedtime last night for us. We’ll try tonight with melatonin.

I’m hoping to get a teacher assignment this week in the mail. Meet the teacher night is Monday and we didn’t get that yet.
Anyone have back to school night two weeks after school start, because we do. I don’t get it and I’m sure it’s a reason why, so I’ll wait to find out. It’s a parents only thing, too, so I’m hoping MH has football off that night so I can attend. If not, I will have to figure something out so I can go.

lahdeedah All the school districts around here do it that way. I know the few districts in OK that my sister has taught at do it, as well. It's like an open house for parents only.

+ 1 to back to school night being a few weeks in. I always thought that was standard. I guess so you see what your kids are actually doing.
We did a basic K Orientation back in May but it was just generic and we didn't have class assignments, etc. Rumor is that doesn't happen till a week or 2 before school starts and that's when they do the day of bring your kid in and show the classroom, meet the teacher etc. I wish they would tell us the date by now though. I mean, we have no real travel plans but I'm sure a lot of people are away in late august and I know I would be pissed if I had booked a vacation for that time and missed that day!S has a few friends who started K last year at our same school so I am going to try to hit their parents up for some more info.

So it is common. We always had orientation the week before school when parents got to hear from the principle and then were dismissed to bring students to meet the teachers. At M’s school in Alabama, there was meet the teacher before the first day, and parent’s night two days before school started. We did get a call from the teacher two weeks in just to check in with the parents and see if we had any questions.

We had the option to order the box of supplies for the first time this year. K is not allowed to bring any supplies, they are all provided but I ordered the box for DD. It was probably more money than I would spend because she’s neat and didn’t really need things like new scissors and book socks because her old ones are perfectly fine. DS1 though will not get his list until the first day and then I will get to go back to work, go to hockey and gymnastics, and then stand on a 3 hour line at Staples to buy the stuff. Our district keeps teachers top secret until like 2 days before school so you can’t get things done ahead.
Our back to school night is usually a month in. It can’t be before school starts because our teacher contracts start September 1 so we can’t be made to go in before that. It’s always a waste for me for my own kids because they only present once and I’m running from class to class for multiple kids so I basically leave knowing nothing. I always joke that I’m just going to get a sitter, go out drinking, and let my kids think I went.

We start September 4 and end around June 26th. DD and T go 8:50-3:20. DS1 and I are 7:40-2:50. The baby will be in an in home daycare and we haven’t decided if DH or I will take him, probably will depend on when he’s waking up. DH works 10-6 so he can drop off the middle two and then catch the bus to the city and then I’m done in time for pick up. DS1 got a bus last year but since I will be working in his school, he could ride with me, he hasn’t decided if the embarrassment of riding with me is better or worse than standing in the cold waiting for the bus. What will you do when YH travels? I know it's not like you can just go in to school late. Do you have a back up sitter or something? I am remembering correctly, right? He travels fairly regularly, right? Until September 2017, our elementary before care allowed drop ins. I could show up with the kid and $5 any day and they took them. It was run by the school and staffed by teachers from the school. Then they outsourced and it’s all or nothing. That year I only worked for 3 months so the few times he was gone, my father came over and took them. Now MH and my dad don’t talk at all and my relationship with my dad is weird so I’m hoping my BIL can help. He takes their kids to the same school and when he gets stuck at work, my nephews come here by MH. If not, the baby’s in home lady is the best person ever and would probably take them if I can get a friend to pick them up from her to drive them. His travel is sporadic. Over the winter he was gone a lot this year but now he’s been home since March.

Probably like kim22 said they have to wait till the teacher's contract renew or something. I may try calling next week if I haven't heard anything. I mean... we are not travelling or anything, so in essence it doesn't matter. I am just dying to know!

I really want to know what teacher Evie gets! This is the last year my K teacher is teaching, she's also one of my dad's cousins. We are FB friends, she took Evie with her during round up. I'm really hoping she is her teacher!

My baby sitter is dying to know so she can plan the school year out. It's so stupid that it's done this late.

Hey, guys! I canNOT believe our kids are going to Kindergarten!
M is going to a Spanish Immersion K that is nowhere near our house. Thankfully the hours are 9-3:30 and I can drop him off early. So we will prob have to leave home at 7:30 to get him there at 8:30
I definitely plan on getting him up and ready quickly and then he can just eat on our looong drive in

I’m working in a different dept today and one of the techs have two kids that go to the same school as M. He said he saw that teacher assignments were put in the mail yesterday, so if it doesn’t come today it should come tomorrow.
One of his kids is going to first grade and he said all the K teachers are great, so that eases my mind a little.

First day of kindergarten is sept 4, last day June 3. 8:35-3:15.
We just got our bus info in the mail. Bus picks up at our stop 8:08 and and drops off at 3:47.
I emailed the principle this morning. We had the option of putting in requests if you *dont’t* want your child in class with someone, but can’t request being put with someone. My sister and I talked and were just going to leave it to chance even though we don’t really N and my nephew to be together. Well, I changed my mind and requested they not be together because I don’t want them to be dependent on each other. I think it will be best for everyone and the principle agreed it is a good idea.
