I told her she could buy breakfast and lunch at school and she started freaking out asking if she needs money, or a money card or...HOW DOES IT WORK! I told her I would find out, but I'm really hoping she can just tell them her name and it's all they need. I don't think she could handle carrying money or a card around. Do they wear name badges? If so that’s how they did “lunch money” when I was in school. Apparently they have cards, but the teachers hold on to them, then at lunchtime she hands them out to the kids who are buying their lunch that day. There is a student code on them that correlates to her and it will be the same code from now through highschool, so I figure after a few years she'll have the number memorized and not need the card any more.

Sometimes C has helped himself to multiple breakfasts by the time I go downstairs at 6:30am. I am jealous of those fighting to wake their kids up.

My kids usually grab a piece of fruit or a some kind of Lara/granola bar as soon as they get downstairs, and then real breakfast about 30 minutes later.

And I'm jealous that you don't have to struggle to get C up! I'm on a time crunch here kid. Wake the F up! Constant whining, moodiness, hitting, kicking. It's not delightful.

Honestly I would probably do an eggo or bar or something in the car if they do not do breakfast at school. Hell no to getting the kids up and feed them and out the door that early every day. We currently leave the house at 7:30 for daycare. M is just so damn picky. The school is literally down the street from our house. She really wants to walk there...but I don't. The same for us. The school is about a 5-6 minute walk from our house. S is so excited that he can walk there. I'm always running 5 minutes late. I just don't see it happening more than once or twice.

We start September 4 and end around June 26th. DD and T go 8:50-3:20. DS1 and I are 7:40-2:50. The baby will be in an in home daycare and we haven’t decided if DH or I will take him, probably will depend on when he’s waking up. DH works 10-6 so he can drop off the middle two and then catch the bus to the city and then I’m done in time for pick up. DS1 got a bus last year but since I will be working in his school, he could ride with me, he hasn’t decided if the embarrassment of riding with me is better or worse than standing in the cold waiting for the bus. What will you do when YH travels? I know it's not like you can just go in to school late. Do you have a back up sitter or something? I am remembering correctly, right? He travels fairly regularly, right?

I think we have what you guys call a year round school. Ds starts the 26 of August and summer holiday starts mid July. Has has half days starting at 08.30 - ending 1pm.
He has a week of near the end of October, two weeks for Christmas, one week in February and two in April/May.
Dd will start in ds’ class when she turns 4 in May and will have 4 half days until she turns 5.

School year August 14 - may 19 but could go to may 29 with snow days
8am-305pm school day but drop off starts at 730. They offer a breakfast option. E will do before and after care
For buying lunches the kids have id cards that are used to swipe for food (flat rate)

Does anyone else have the opportunity to buy schools supplies through Edukit? Our county does this and I think it was $50 for the kit with everything the student needs. It is shipped to the school and given out during meet the teacher night- which is Monday for us. I asked my coworker if his family does it since his wife is a teacher and he said they do it because it’s cheaper, has exactly what the teachers want, and it is like a fundraiser for the school. I think they get a percentage. So glad I don’t have to do school supply shopping.

lahdeedah, we had the opportunity to buy that and the proceeds benefit the school's PTA, but I didn't buy it. I was able to get the supplies on the list for cheaper, plus you had to buy it back in May.

Our school said that all supplies except folders and things that need to go back and forth are shared (which I think is so that families that can't afford it don't have to worry about it?) so I ordered it and it is being sent directly to the school. I think with ours a % doesn't go to the school but I was able to click a button to donate a % to school supplies for the needy, so that was cool.

I'm oddly excited to do back to school supply shopping? I loved doing it as a kid. We don't need much apparently, so should be a quick trip.

tallb, I wasn't as excited because now it all goes into a community pile, so you don't get cute pencils and folders, you get basics and just throw them in the pot to share. :/

I was able to get the supplies on the list for cheaper, plus you had to buy it back in May. I wanted to price the supply list to compare and see if it actually comes out cheaper. I would have priced it on a sale or tax free weekend, but who has time for that. This made things easier so I did it. If it didn’t truly save me that much money, it saved me time.

But the schools in our area provide the school supplies for K-5, so I had to be happy with lunch boxes, water bottles, pencil cases, and backpack keychains/pompoms. The kids do have a locker right outside of their classroom for their backpacks, lunch and coats. It doesn’t lock. I’ll feel it out but would be happy to help Josie create decorations for the inside of the locker. My girlfriends in my old town use the online ordering and rave about the ease of it.

The country is divided into three regions (north-mid-) and will start summer break on a rotation schedule the 2nd/3rd/4th week of July. Summer break is six weeks.

Aside from a backpack and a lunchbox, school provides everything they need over here until 7th grade. Older kids often buy there own pencil cases/pencils/pens, but for fun, not out of necessity.

I guess I was meaning year round schools in the US usually give 3 sessions of extended breaks like month. Usually summer, Christmas and summer other time or maybe only split across 2 breaks. But the days in school are the same. So our break schedule is the same as hers but they actually go more days

Target offers a school list assist where you find your list and decide pick up at store or shipped.

I haven't gotten a list yet. I'm unsure when he starts school (I know it's after labor day) and I don't know the times of school... So I clearly have some prep work to do. I DO know he's riding the bus, so there's that!

He still naps about 75% of the time. And jack is going to preschool which is am and it would kinda suck if they were on opposite schedules.
