That's a lot to take in meggriffin. I hope it closes on its own.

meggriffin I’m sorry that you guys didn’t get more positive news. Human bodies are amazing though and I’m hopeful that your son’s will be able to stay healthy and heal without needing surgery.

We saw the cardiologist today, the little guy has two holes in his heart. One is small and fairly common, they expect it to heal on its own. The second hole is large and is causing extra blood to flow to his lungs, weighing them down. She described his lungs as soggy- this is causing him to have labored breathing. That hole may heal on its own but it is large enough that he may require surgery to repair. We will have nurses visit the house a couple of times a week to check his vitals and we go back in a month to see if the holes are healing at all. They stressed how important it is to keep him from getting sick which seems so hard to with kids in daycare and school- also my H works in a prison and goes back tomorrow. So I will be sanitizing the house like crazy now. so sorry to hear this! Everyone in our house has been sick and Lily has been fine so hopefully your little guy can avoid all illnesses as well!

Thank you all.
I am still processing it all, but it helps knowing in the world of cardiology that it is common and very treatable. I just didn't expect them to actually find anything.(i thought the murmur was new where it wasnt picked up in the hospital)
I am also trying to sort my feelings were the hospital didnt catch it, they should have noticed the murmur and breathing when he was born.

I am super lucky I should be able to keep him out of daycare for the winter, I spoke to my previous boss today and she thinks I will be allowed to work from home for a couple of months.

Big hugs meggriffin, I can also attest that my H, 3 yo (goes to 2 different childcare programs a week) and myself are sick and magically baby is not sick. You’ll be in my thoughts and I’m glad you will have health professionals in your home regularly to help monitor everything.

tbirdlove the football hold can correct that weird nipple shape. It may not hurt now but can lead to irritation and bleeding. Also football hold pulls milk from outside of breast do can really help feel emptied.

Also football hold pulls milk from outside of breast do can really help feel emptied. I've been getting a better latch initially from holding her a little different when latching. But then sometimes she likes to back off the nipple herself a bit. It's a work in progress 😊 I'll try football hold and see what that does.

Baby is 5 weeks and STTN last night. I post this not to brag, but to give those in the thick of newborn sleep deprivation hope.

Football hold is my go to if either of my nips starts hurting or if I'm feeling full and know my letdown may be too much for DS to handle not propped up.

DS is taking his first nap in his crib. He fell asleep on the changing table so I just transferred him and walked out. Woot.

Had a great trip to the hospital this morning. DD passed her hearing screening - Yay! So glad not to have to do a bunch of hearing tests like we did with DS. The meeting with the LC was also great and very reassuring. Latch looked good, I just have to help her when she tries to readjust herself. The LC made a good point that DD may be backing off a little bit when my milk lets down. I never had issues with that with DS, so I hadn't thought of it! But it makes sense cause she tends to do it in the beginning. DD's gained about 5oz since Monday and transferred about 1.5oz of milk.
I've been feeling so much more confident this time and this meeting really helped solidify that feeling. So, we shall keep on!

We had been getting 4+ hour stretches with DD but of course this week when DH and I have the worst colds with raging headaches DD has decided she wants to wake up every 2-2.5 hours 😟

I’m still so tired. We have colds here, what are you guys sick with?

Hopefully she’s been busy cuddling her baby! tbirdlove I’m glad your LC appointment went well! yay to passing the hearing screening too.

Same here brenna and it’s been lingering here. Scratchy throat 😷. I thought I would never wash and scrub my hands as much as I did with GD... ha so wrong.

Thanks for thinking of us! We’re doing well, we were released yesterday so we’re finally home and settling in. He is so far very easy going, loves to snuggle and eat but he barely cries just fusses when he needs something. I just posted our birth story... definitely not what I had planned but he’s here and healthy and we’re both doing well.
