We will be in that area the second week of September but we don't have any firm plans or schedule yet. I figured we only need a day or two in Niagara proper. Anything else fun in that area we should check out? I have it in my head that crossing the border will be a pain- maybe that's not true? Boarder crossings are easy. Do you all have passports though? Kids only need a long form certificate to do a land crossing but adults need a passport. Niagara on the Lake is beautiful, vineyards and a small, quaint main street. Port Dalhousie has a little beach and an old carousel for only 5 cents a ride. For a day trip to Toronto, I'd do China Town, Kensington Market and Yonge Dundas Square. There's an awesome park behind the art gallery in that area too. Thanks so much! We are getting our passports next week- I knew even if we didn't drive over we'd still want to walk over and check out the general area.

we try to drive to York Maine every August for an "end of the summer" vacation. Where are you planning on going? I also cant wait for some amazing lobster! We're going to York! Any restaurant or activity must-dos? York's Wild Kingdom is super fun for kids. There's also a bowling alley and arcade right next to the ocean near there. Food- Congdons Donuts in Wells has the best breakfast food! And Lobster Cove in York has really good, not too expensive lobster, right on the shore over looking the lighthouse

We are going to Disney for 11 days July/August. While we’re there we are going to do a day trip to the beach. We will probably do short trips to Chicago and St Louis and maybe a long weekend to the Dells. DH has to work the state fair this year so the girls and I will go visit him for a few days while he’s there. I might be going to Minnesota to meet up with some of my BMB ladies.

We're kinda broke AND kinda short on vacation time, but we're talking about a long weekend in Indianapolis...mostly for the dinosaur display at the kids' museum there. Please tell me it's worth a trip from Michigan? DS is dino-obsessed and that's the best candidate (we don't want to do Chicago, too big for us). How old is your DS? Maybe I take it for granted because we live so close but DS and I usually breeze in and out of that area pretty quickly. But he’s 3 and the interactive stuff is lost on him. I think an older kid would spend more time there. But don’t let that discourage you. There’s a ton of other stuff and you can easily spend a day or more there. Space, trains, etc.

Besides hanging out at the cabin, no vacations planned here. We'll probably go to Alaska in September if this baby isn't of the hellbeast variety.

My mom wants to take DD to the state fair in October and if these babies are happy and healthy I may be able to talk MH into a post season baseball trip.

Dr. Cox, MH wants to do Germany in fall 2019 or spring 2020 as well for our 10th anniversary. I’m still pushing for French Polynesia, but he’s more fun to travel with when it’s his idea, so we’ll probably end up over there. Well if you do I have tons of ideas for you. Germany is so fun.

jbm I would do the Caribbean! I don't know what airport you're flying out of but direct flights would be my first step. Our boys loved Jamaica but I know that all of the islands have good spots and are worth a visit.

Whenever these threads get posted I always add so many places to my list of things to see in the U.S. It seems like there is so much to see and do and I feel like growing up I saw and did .01 percent of it. I have work really hard to not plan the next 18 years of summers all at once. We have a really long, basically impossible list already and it’s always getting longer. Me too - and I've enjoyed the vacations we've taken so much that I want to go back. So then I debate - back to Disney and/or South Dakota again, or do something new? I'd like to start plotting a spring break vacation for 2019 too since we've never done that. Every year I grow envious seeing everyone else posting vacation pics while I'm at work. This year we did go to visit family in northern WI for a couple of days - and it snowed. I'm thinking Gulf Shores?

Between the new baby and moving, we don’t have any plans. Whomp. I guess I’ll be able to go to the Minnesota State Fair this year though lol. I probably missed an update, but did you settle on a house?

lucylou ds is 5 and knows a crazy amount about dinosaurs so hopefully he'd be into it. Any recommendations for hotels or campgrounds? I'm mostly looking for a great pool.

I wish I did have more hotel recommendations but we live here so we never have an excuse to get a room. You can find pretty much any chain downtown. If you’re looking for something unique- look into The Crowne Plaza-Union Station. I want to take DS here soon. They have old train cars converted into rooms. It’s only an indoor pool though. m.huffpost.com/us/entry/6145070I’ve had friends and family camp at Jellystone Park (aka Yogi Bear park) in Knightstown which is about 45 minutes or so from the museum. But that would be like full-on camping and there’s not much else around it. But if that’s what you’re looking for, the people I know have enjoyed it. ETA: if you end up finding a hotel you’re interested in, feel free to pm me and I’ll tell you what I know about it (good location, close to stuff, etc).

We don't really have a lot of plans except for a couple of weeks at the IL's camp with everyone, which will be fun but also kind of crazy because a lot of people/kids/babies in a tiny house.
We are hoping to get some weekend camping trips planned.
We are thinking about a real trip someplace in the fall? Maybe out West or Europe, not really sure.

We went camping this weekend and it was a lot of fun. Our big thing this summer is driving to Idaho (from VA) to see MH’s family. We plan on stopping to see different things on the way there and back. Hopefully, Mount Rushmore. We will be gone for about 18 days. Even though the drive is long I think it will be a good time!

We are going to Disney for 11 days July/August. goddamn. This is the longest Disney trip I've ever heard of.. It exceeds my Disney tolerance quotient by about... 8 days. We like to sgo for longer trips so we can relax and take our time. It also gives up plenty of time to enjoy things at the resort. I hate being rushed, especially in the summer heat.

Have you taken your son to the children’s museum here? It’s great. Yeah! It is great. We went about a year and a hlaf ago, I think. But we'll maybe plan to go back because it was so huge. And last time we went, he was too scared to go in that massive climbing structure. This summer there is a Thomas the Train exhibit & also a Mo Williem's exhibit. I love it there. The science center is fun too & they just did redid the top level under 6 clubhouse!

The summer is a busy time for my H so we do a few long weekends instead of a week long trip. Since he owns his own business, he doesn't get paid when he doesn't work. Sometimes I feel 3 days of 24hr togetherness is more than enough.
Last summer we went camping one weekend. The site was just so so. His friend has a site there but doesn't have kids. Two out of three days it rained so tensions were high. We may try a more commercial park with pools and kids activities this summer.
We also went to Martha's Vineyard last summer. In 37 yrs of living here, I had never been. It was fun and some of the beaches were very nice. We watched the sunset at one and jumped off the Jaws Bridge at another. We talked about going back but we might try Naragansett/Block Island in RI instead.

We just did three nights in San Diego-baseball game, Sea World, Safari Park, and LEGOLAND on the way home.
MH and I are doing Vegas for two nights at the end of the month for his niece's 21st birthday.
The end of August we are going to Mammoth for two nights.
I'm going to try to fit in a day trip to Catalina, the Griffith Observatory, and Malibu this summer.

Your trip looked so fun! Do you mind sharing where you went? Sure! It’s only about 45 minutes from my house. Which surprised me because I had never heard of it until a friend went recently. It was Cherrystone (camp ground) on the Eastern Shore of VA. The boys loved it! We crossed the Chesapeake bay bridge tunnel to get there (18 mile bride with 2 tunnels- the boys thought it was amazing) The “cabin” (one tiny room with 3 beds, haha) was super small but it had AC and it didn’t matter much because we basically spent all our time outside. It had 5 pools, a splash pad, bounce pads, paddle boats/ kayaking, crabbing and fishing, the beach, and we did campfires with s’mores. I’ve never “camped” before and this was the perfect first time experience. I’m a beach lover so it being on the water sold it for me. So family friendly and the price was great for all it it included. They even have a fresh market and restaurant on site if you don’t want to grill or cook.

We are road tripping to Vancouver Island in early August for a family reunion, and hopefully stopping in the Okanagan/Shushwaps (BC wine and lake country) on the way back. The kids don't mind the drive and loooove the ferry, I'm looking forward to it!

We’re headed to the Caymans this week. Then I spend July in the Jersey shore, August in the Hamptons. I told MH I was going to book something for our anniversary (September) and just surprise him at the airport, so I’m about to pull the trigger on an Aruba trip. I have a pretty big trip booked in October for Hawaii (hiiiiii, @winomite!). I’m in my H’s ear about something for November but that’s going to be a hard sell, especially since we’re planning on St. Lucia for New Years.
Give me all the trips.

Ok, I’m going to ask for suggestions while people have travel on the brain. Since DS starts kindergarten in the fall, spring break 2019 is going to be our first “real” spring break so I want to plan something big-ish. It’s going to be mid April. We live on the East Coast and would be willing to fly a few hours. What would be fun with a 5.5 year old and an almost 3 year old? Disney is our go to spot because they provide all your transportation and we don’t need to lug car seats. If that’s your reason for spending 11 days in the August Disney heat, I can provide some other places where you can arrange transportation and leave car seats at home.

We just got back from Sea Island, Ga for Memorial Day, we’re spending a week in Montana in the beginning of July, Charleston at the end of July, and possibly Aruba or some TBD beach resort in August before the baby starts school. I’m taking notes in this thread to hopefully get something planned
