Minerva, you have to tell me all about Assateague when you get back! I'm reading the Misty books to DS1 to get him excited about it (he doesn't want to move). It’s one of my favorite places! We camped on the MD side of the island every year when I was a kid, though this year we are getting a house on the mainland w/ my parents and brother. We’ve done vacations to Chincoteague, VA too, which is such an adorable beach town and probably my favorite with all of the pony history, but we wanted to be closer to home this year since DD is still so little.

Sanibel looks like it would be amazing. UNFORTUNATELY my in laws live in Tampa and basically if we step foot in the state of Florida it ends up being a vacation with them, which is not a vacation. I wonder if it would be warm enough to have fun in the Hilton Head/Savannah area... Savannah, Charleston, or the Great Smoky Mountains are always on my list of short vacation destinations from where we live.

I would like to go on all of your vacations with you. This is getting me excited for next year now too! I wonder if we could pull off a spring break vacation next year...

Short weekend 4th of July trip to visit family, then we have a 1.5 week vacation to visit family in Florida and go to Disney in August. Also a brief trip to Detroit overnight with the lovely scarlettpanda to see Harry Styles. I am trying to get my ILs to watch the kids for our 10th Anniversary in October so DH and I can go away, but that's still up in the air. The other nurse at my job retired, and we hired a new one to start end of June, so I really can't take off much this summer as there is no coverage until she is trained. I'm seeing Harry in Detroit!

We have a long weekend beach trip planned in 2 weeks and also plan to go to New Orleans in July. We tentatively are planning a ski trip to park city spring break with the baby at the resort daycare and the toddler in ski lessons.

I have been talking for years about wanting to visit Assateague, Minerva . I think I'm going to have to plan that for 2019.

hawkward are y'all moving to the Eastern Shore of MD? I moved there in HS and Assateague and Chincoteague were some of my favorites. I still go everytime I visit my parents. It's fun/beautiful even in the cold.

I did a fun drive up to Nova Scotia at that age, it had tons of fun things to do along the way including a fossil beach. DS would die for a fossil beach! Do you know where that was? If you went to the beach somewhere in/near Carteret County (New Bern, Beaufort, Atlantic Beach/Morehead City), NC, you would drive through/ not be far from Aurora where there's a really cool fossil museum and a dig site. Aurora is super rural but it's an easy day trip from the beach. There's an aquarium and Fort Macon to explore.

We leave this week for MN to visit family. H and I are leaving the kids with my IL’s for a few days and taking a side trip to Chicago. I have a girl’s beach trip planned at the end of the month and we’re doing a week in San Diego at the beginning of August.

Nothing special here because no money. We're going to try for a few day trips while I'm off work (I'm in the second week of a six-week summer break from work) and then MH and I are both taking some time off in August right after DS's birthday. We don't get a lot of time off together since I work Mon-Fri and he words Weds-Sun, so that'll be nice.

2/3 of my kids are at summer camp this week, so I’m going to Target and Starbucks with the baby....that’s as close to a vacation as I’ll get this summer.
We usually do a week at Ocean City, MD or Virginia Beach, but with baby we are taking a year off. Too much crazy with 3 under 5 at the beach.

I jumped on spicysalmonrolls France post earlier this summer which talked me in doing an AirBNB instead of hotel. So I'm staying just a couple blocks to the east of the Eiffel Tower. That's all I know. Tell me all the things I need to do/see/eat please!!

I'm wondering now if we should extend our Niagara trip and do a day to Toronto. I'd prefer to leave our car in the US- does anyone know if there's an easy public transportation option to get from Niagara to Toronto? If we were going to just spend a day there, with a six year old, what should we do? I would probably just drive. The highway goes right downtown and then just use public transit inside the city. When are you coming? Anything specific you want to do?

@kokopelli, I love it. When we were in England, going to the beach on cold days was usually my favorite, so I'm looking forward to that too!
What parts of England are you going to? I don't know LDN as well as some here, but I spent a lot of time exploring other cities and the rural areas there if you need any recs!

Whenever these threads get posted I always add so many places to my list of things to see in the U.S. It seems like there is so much to see and do and I feel like growing up I saw and did .01 percent of it.

No big plans for the summer but H and I will be celebrating our 10th anniversary in the fall. He's going to San Diego for work so he might extend his trip and I'll join him.

We usually do a family beach trip with my parents and other extended family, but I think it's getting skipped this year. By the time they would have gone I would have been too far along to go anyway. For sure next year though. I'm a little bummed and trying to figure out if we can make it down to the coast after the baby is born to visit MH's mom and step-dad. We would need to get a hotel room or condo though and I'm not sure traveling with a newborn would be fun.

They are at Lakenheath but live on base so she said we need to stay off base since it's basically the US. So those 4 days we can do whatever. We talked about going up to Scotland. I spent a month there as a kid so I've already done most the tourist stuff and my H isn't a big history buff so I'm just looking for something fun and different.
