Whenever these threads get posted I always add so many places to my list of things to see in the U.S. It seems like there is so much to see and do and I feel like growing up I saw and did .01 percent of it. I have work really hard to not plan the next 18 years of summers all at once. We have a really long, basically impossible list already and it’s always getting longer.

cherrytomato, someone told me that Legoland San Diego runs great Black Friday deals for trips in the following year. So I'm keeping that in the back of my head to try for a San Diego spring break 2019 trip. I want to go back now that my kid is older/bigger and actually into legos!

We took our vacation early this year and went to the Black Hills in May. It was SUCH a fun trip, even with an 8 hour drive with 2 kids under 5.

We have a week on the lake in Austin planned for July 4.
At the end of July I have a girls beach weekend.
We just booked Grand Cayman for mid August
And back to the Lake resort with my entire family at the end of August.
I’m looking forward to all of it!

Between the new baby and moving, we don’t have any plans. Whomp. I guess I’ll be able to go to the Minnesota State Fair this year though lol.

Summer is my busy season at work and since DD isn't in school yet we aren't limited to summer for our vacations yet. We are going to spend a week on Sanibel Island in early November, we are going with my parents (this is a family vacation spot) so we are splitting the cost of everything. We will probably also get one afternoon/evening kid free to do something by ourselves which will be nice.

@kokopelli, we were stationed in Lakenheath! That's where DS1 was born. The immediate area was very American, but it's a good central location for a lot of day trips.
We lived closer to Norwich, and that was one of my favorite places to spend a day. We would park at the mall, walk through the Royal Arcade to the market, get coffee and pastries, people watch for a while, then walk through Elm Hill to the cathedral. The castle (next to the mall) also has a very nice museum.
Bath is a beautiful city and another good day trip. It's one of those places where the touristy double decker buses are worth the expense. If I was kidless, I'd book a day at the spa there. You could see Stonehenge, Bath, and a bit of the Cottswolds in the same day.

I'm wondering now if we should extend our Niagara trip and do a day to Toronto. I'd prefer to leave our car in the US- does anyone know if there's an easy public transportation option to get from Niagara to Toronto? If we were going to just spend a day there, with a six year old, what should we do? I would probably just drive. The highway goes right downtown and then just use public transit inside the city. When are you coming? Anything specific you want to do? We will be in that area the second week of September but we don't have any firm plans or schedule yet. I figured we only need a day or two in Niagara proper. Anything else fun in that area we should check out? I have it in my head that crossing the border will be a pain- maybe that's not true?

Right now our only big trip is on a Disney Cruise at the end of August. We may go to my aunts lake house upstate for a weekend but that isn’t set in stone yet. We will likely go to Sesame place a couple of times and maybe to Hershey Park.

We did one long weekend already to let my soccer crazed kids go to a MLS game. Going to try to squeeze in one more later this summer.
We're going to Disney the end of this month to take advantage of the smallest child being free.
The rest of our trips this summer will be visiting family. One of those family members lives at the beach though!

We are planning to get to the cottage more his year, last summer’s weather was brutal.
We have 2 camping trips planned with other families. So much fun and the kids absolutely love it.
I’d like to get to Cincinnati in August for some tennis but work will probably rêvent that from happening. If so, Chicago in the fall for he Laver Cup it is.

A long weekend trip to Salt Lake City in July and then a week in Colombia in August. We were going camping this weekend, but it was a long drive for a two night stay. Plus the trailer is still in the shop.

Kids only need a long form certificate to do a land crossing but adults need a passport. Niagara on the Lake is beautiful, vineyards and a small, quaint main street. Port Dalhousie has a little beach and an old carousel for only 5 cents a ride. For a day trip to Toronto, I'd do China Town, Kensington Market and Yonge Dundas Square. There's an awesome park behind the art gallery in that area too.

brux if you're looking for someone to hangout with in Pittsburgh who is not your MIL... we basically live as shut ins while we're there, but if I get some time to myself, I'll let you know. Have you taken your son to the children’s museum here? It’s great.

We just got back from Gatlinburg, TN where we stayed with my family in a big cabin. It rained most of the time, but it was still relaxing.
H and I are going to California next month, but not sure if we’re driving up the coast from the Bay Area or just staying in San Diego.
We’re taking DS to South Padre here in TX also in July.
We have plans for international travel both with and without kids in late 2019/2020. Ireland/England/Germany for H and I, Costa Rica with the kids.

We went to SC a couple of weeks ago for a week and immediately spent 3 days in Disney from there.
Next Monday, I'm driving up with the kids to Ohio. We'll be there for about a week and change to see my family, pop in on DH'S extended family in PA, and I have a friend's wedding to go to, completely and utterly alone. It will be great.
In July, we may go to a friend's lakehouse for a weekend, then Dh's parents are taking Dd1 and DS to their place in FL for a week. DH, dd2, and I will drive down to pick them up and will probably spend a day or two in Disney before coming back.
The kids start school at the beginning of August, so we are done after that.

We went about a year and a hlaf ago, I think. But we'll maybe plan to go back because it was so huge. And last time we went, he was too scared to go in that massive climbing structure.

Sanibel looks like it would be amazing. UNFORTUNATELY my in laws live in Tampa and basically if we step foot in the state of Florida it ends up being a vacation with them, which is not a vacation. I wonder if it would be warm enough to have fun in the Hilton Head/Savannah area... We love Hilton Head, that's where we went at the end of May. We've been there in October and it was lovely...other than having to be evacuated due to Hurricane Matthew. I think spring would be great!

We usually do a family beach trip with my parents and other extended family, but I think it's getting skipped this year. By the time they would have gone I would have been too far along to go anyway. For sure next year though. I'm a little bummed and trying to figure out if we can make it down to the coast after the baby is born to visit MH's mom and step-dad. We would need to get a hotel room or condo though and I'm not sure traveling with a newborn would be fun. Newborns are easy peasy. The older they get, the harder it is to lug them places. We took dd2 to Disney at 11wks and it was way easier than the most recent time at 6/7m.

We are staying more mellow this year because of H’s job situation and some house projects. And because I keep bringing foster dogs into our house. Lol.
We will be doing a stay-cation the first part of July 4th week. We were going to repeat our San Diego/Legoland trip from last year, but I was too lazy to plan it and now I just want to stay home. We might do a last minute Legoland trip sometime this fall.
August - week in Tahoe with the family. We rented a sweet place this year that is dog friendly and not the crappy timeshare my in laws love. Much excite.
Labor Day we go to Oregon to babysit my 98 year old Grandma for my aunt and uncle. It’s fun and relaxing.
End of September camping with all of our friends.

jbm, brux, I cannot say enough good things about Sanibel. +1. We went every year for spring break. We’re probably going to stay on Captiva right next door in August! Love it

We're heading to Boston and Maine for a long weekend soon. I'm already dreaming of all the lobsters I'll eat. Not much else is planned, I don't think. A weekend in Pittsburgh to visit MIL at the end of the summer. we try to drive to York Maine every August for an "end of the summer" vacation. Where are you planning on going? I also cant wait for some amazing lobster!

We're kinda broke AND kinda short on vacation time, but we're talking about a long weekend in Indianapolis...mostly for the dinosaur display at the kids' museum there. Please tell me it's worth a trip from Michigan? DS is dino-obsessed and that's the best candidate (we don't want to do Chicago, too big for us).

Dr. Cox, MH wants to do Germany in fall 2019 or spring 2020 as well for our 10th anniversary. I’m still pushing for French Polynesia, but he’s more fun to travel with when it’s his idea, so we’ll probably end up over there.

Ok, I’m going to ask for suggestions while people have travel on the brain. Since DS starts kindergarten in the fall, spring break 2019 is going to be our first “real” spring break so I want to plan something big-ish. It’s going to be mid April. We live on the East Coast and would be willing to fly a few hours. What would be fun with a 5.5 year old and an almost 3 year old? Disney is our go to spot because they provide all your transportation and we don’t need to lug car seats.
