Eek spottedprincess you’re much braver than me. But that sounds like a badass way to welcome 40!

Ok, I’m going to ask for suggestions while people have travel on the brain. Since DS starts kindergarten in the fall, spring break 2019 is going to be our first “real” spring break so I want to plan something big-ish. It’s going to be mid April. We live on the East Coast and would be willing to fly a few hours. What would be fun with a 5.5 year old and an almost 3 year old? so many options! What do you like to do? beaches? cities? in the US or out?

We went to Hilton Head 2 weeks ago and it was amazing. It was my son's first trip (he'll be 2 next month) and he did GREAT. So now that we know he traveled so well, H & I are debating going to FL or something in August. We have a week off for daycare closure and were just going to stay home but now we're both eager to go lol. brux, try to get your lobster and steamers from a local supermarket rather than a restaurant. They will be so, so, so much cheaper and you'll get so much more for your money. Pretty much all the grocery stores will steam it for you for free so no cooking or kitchen required! I just ate 4 lbs of steamers by myself for dinner last night haha

Very excited to see Harry Styles with wesleycrusher in a few weeks! After that, my family and my parents are going to the Outer Banks in mid-July. That's really all we have planned, since DH doesn't get a lot of time off and I will likely be starting a new job.

brux I was thinking either beach or mountains. But not in the middle of nowhere. I thought Colorado, maybe, or Arizona? But also the Caribbean? Less of a time change would be nice, so the kids aren’t too thrown off. Basically I have no idea. Except not Disney.

Lots of time at our summer house on Shelter Island. We are doing our annual cousins camping trip and Disney at the end of August. Going to to be a fun summer.

We just had our beach vacation in South Carolina at the end of May, so that was the big one. But we have a camping trip on a lake in July, a long weekend family reunion this next weekend in the mountains and I think Seattle in August.
Our good friends are moving to New Zealand in August and that will be our next big vacation. Hopefully in November or December since that is NZs summer months.

We’re going camping for a long weekend in a few weeks, then again to one of the gulf islands for labour day weekend. Other than that no summer plans. We’re doing a winter vacation instead this year

We're taking an extra couple of days to do some sightseeing as we move in August. It'll be my first time traveling east of the Mississippi without flying into a specific city and back out again, so I'm looking forward to it. Then we're basically moving to the beach, so we're leaving a bit early so we can have a few days to do sightseeing in our new area and go to the beach before we need to get settled in.
Then H has to take an almost three week work trip immediately after he starts his new job, so the boys and I have a motherboy planned for Chincoteague before DS1 starts school.

Do weddings count? We are all going to Puerto Rico in two weeks for my cousin’s wedding. They boys are in it. I, thankfully, am not. Then the following week, I am going on a Mediterranean cruise my aunt. Another cousin “won” it at a silent auction. He and his wife can’t go so they gave t to my aunt and she invited me! Just the two of us, no kids, no husband, all expenses paid (my other aunt gave me miles for the flight). I alternate between excitement and extreme guilt.

We are doing 5 day trips to the beach at both Assateague Island, MD and Hilton Head, SC. We leave for Assateague in 8 days and I am so ready to play in the waves and eat all the blue crab.
We are also spending 4th of July week at my parents’ house in Upstate NY. They are close to a spring-fed lake with a cute beach and their area has lots of hiking and farm stands, so it’s basically a vacation destination for us.

The first part of the summer is up in the air, date wise. But, I have a lot of air travel refunds that need to be used by April, so paying full-price last minute isn’t a big deal.
Orlando the 2nd week in July, home for a week and then CA.
From CA, I’ll meet my family in OH. From OH, DD and I head to MSP for a wedding and the boys will come back to CO with my ILs
Not summer, but next April I’m meeting a dear friend in Iceland, then off to London and Scotland.

Minerva, you have to tell me all about Assateague when you get back! I'm reading the Misty books to DS1 to get him excited about it (he doesn't want to move).

Less of a time change would be nice, so the kids aren’t too thrown off. Basically I have no idea. Except not Disney. The Nickelodeon Resort in DR is expensive but we had a lot of fun. I love Arizona, but I struggle with the time change. DS will not sleep past 5 am on the west coast, and I hate it. Maybe Sanibel in Florida? I've never been but I only hear great things. I too need to start plotting Spring Break vacations as we'll be tied to the school calendar from here on out.

Probably not much. We live literally ON the Jersey shore-so day trips mostly. However DD has such restrictions that it is hard to plan much. Plus with a newborn it is a lot.
I did fill out an application for DD to attend a week sleep away “cancer camp”- I am not sure if her doctors would approve it.

I saw a post on fb of your DD at the beach, and I remember wasn't it only a few years ago that you posted about her hating the sand?

Yes! She LOVES the beach now. It took her until she was 5 to enjoy it. Which was hard because we literally live ON the beach and that is what we do most days. But now it is her favorite thing.

Ten days kid free in England/France. I have like 5% of it planned. Meaning I have tickets there and that's all.
My kids will be at the beach with my parents. It should be hysterical as long as no one gets hurts.

I'm wondering now if we should extend our Niagara trip and do a day to Toronto. I'd prefer to leave our car in the US- does anyone know if there's an easy public transportation option to get from Niagara to Toronto? If we were going to just spend a day there, with a six year old, what should we do?

Sanibel looks like it would be amazing. UNFORTUNATELY my in laws live in Tampa and basically if we step foot in the state of Florida it ends up being a vacation with them, which is not a vacation.
I wonder if it would be warm enough to have fun in the Hilton Head/Savannah area...
