I'm pretty sure all of us on here arent' plopping are kids down in front of the TV or the ipad for 10+ hours a day. So, no one should be worrying about screen time. Agreed. My sister sees this in the patient population she serves. Some of these kids literally can’t ‘do’ anything, bc all they do is swipe a screen. They essentially don’t know how to do a task in real life bc they do everything virtually, if that makes sense? Her war stories are why I’m (admittedly) paranoid about the iPad, plus I don’t like the addictive nature of it, so we just don’t really use it unless we’re on a road trip.

My brother and his wife don't let their son (2.5 yrs.) watch any TV. Like once a week maybe a half hour show. So when he's at our house we have to turn it off or he stands 2 inches from he TV the whole time completely mesmerized.

I’m pretty breezy about tv at this point. I think I’m with most everyone here, we get out, we’re active so I’m not worried. They’ve watched a ton of tv over winter break, but it’s break and I’m 20 months pregnant so whatever. They also definitely watch more over breaks in general, especially over summer when it’s too hot to go outside. They don’t watch in the mornings ever during school weeks and like flamingo I don’t really ever give the iPad. Landon is really the only one who occasionally gets it, it’s just a tech door I don’t want to completely open yet. <for the record, this is being typed from my bed while my kids are downstairs watching tv>

Morning! N is home sick today. I'm WFH. She is currently in front of the TV where she'll spend most of her day. Oh well. I don't stress about screen time too much either. On daycare days, I know they've been running like crazy all day and imagine it feels good to sit and relax so they get to watch a show or 2 when we get home. Weekends vary, but they watch a lot more- couple shows in the morning, couple in the afternoon, maybe a movie at night if we're home.

Also, hi! Still not much sleep here last night, I think I finally fell asleep at 1. I did finish the book I was reading (the nightingale) and woke dh up because I was crying, lol. So I need to go the library or the bookstore today for some new books. Any recs? Besides that I just plan on heading to the gym and trying to walk this baby out. I did 2.5 miles yesterday, but slowly lol. I can’t wait to be “back” and do my normal workouts, but there’s something nice about going to the gym and knowing all I have to do is stroll on the treadmill while watching my show!
Landon has a bday party and sleepover tonight and I’m excited it’s the weekend so I can hopefully get some good naps in.

Happy Friday!!! So happy we booked and extra two night and won’t be going home just yet! Both kids were up at 5-5.30, which sucked. Dd is napping and ds and I are watching a movie. We really need to reign in screen time, starting Monday. Divided in two three slots it easily adds up to 1.5 hours a day. How much do your kiddos watch? Yesterday s literally watched tv from the time he woke up till the time he went to sleep - minus eating and about 45 minutes of shoveling. But that was not the norm. Sometimes he plays on the iPad for about 30 minutes in the morning. During the week he usually watches tv for about 1 hour in the evening. Weekends he watches a bit more, and usually watches a full movie while B naps. So I’d say depending on the day between 30 minutes and 5 hours - tv and iPad combined. We have a lot of screen time in our house

I prefer the tv over the tablet. When she is on the tablet it is just youtube videos, but when she's watching tv I can hear her yelling answers to whatever questions the shows are asking, so I feel like she is learning something, even just a little bit, like a new word in Spanish from Dora or Wally Kazaam teaching her a word that rhymes with duck.

Morning all!
I took a vacation day and MH and I are going to have a day date, browse the mall and go to the Star Wars movie.
He’s annoying me a lot lately so i’m hoping some together time will help, if not I took Monday off to be alone, lol. Omg, that sounds terrible.

I don't stress about screen time. As long as I see my kids having a balance between play, concentration and focus on arts and crafts or other fine motor skills, and watching TV I'm happy. Because it's winter and we are home all day, the TV is almost always on in the background-- sometimes it's just music and sometimes it's a show, but the only time I really watch them stare at it is when they're getting tired, otherwise it's usually in combination with whatever they're doing. ETA: I also think some of the things they watch, especially on YouTube, really helped teach fundamentals (like letters, colors, numbers and shapes) Eta2: we treat the iPad more like a TV, where they ask to watch something or play something. It's not available to them at all times. Same on both. Both of their tablets are locked and they can't get in them without us. + 1 - except he doesn’t have his own iPad - only ours. And he doesn’t have the code to get in them

We’ve done less tv in the house, especially since J started being able to play. I used to have it one as soon as we came home through to bedtime, but now they play and we eat with it off. So 7pm is when he gets a show for about 45 min to chill and have a snack. Weekends are different and he gets a bit more, but between errands and his activities I’m not worried.
I used to have an ipad and i hated those youtube videos that he would just click on over and over, never ‘focusing’ on anything. It broke and my plan was to get a new one but just never did, I cannot see it going over well with J, aka our destroyer.

TV isn't really something I worry too much about. C watches a decent amount, but we're really active otherwise. We try to be outside or out and about for most of the day. If he watches extra TV because he got up early, it's insanely cold out or I need a break, then whatever! This is us, too too. I would consider us to be normal/average as far as TV goes. I don’t think he watches more than I did as a kid, and I turned out fine. I’m pretty zealous about little-to-no iPad, though, so his screen time is limited to TV. Identical same.

I'll be honest, there are plenty of moments during the evening/weekend, where I just don't feel like parenting and I know she is safe watching Youtube videos, and I get some sanity. I've never put much worry into how much screen time she gets.

xolastunicornxo I am getting so much more sleep now than when I was pregnant. Baby is up for 20-30 minutes every 3-4 hours. Pregnant I was waking up every hour with hip pain or needing to pee.

Atticus is mostly an introvert (which is fine on its own) but he has serious couch potato tendencies. I don't know if I would worry about all kids being addicted, but I definitely do with him. Plus, I am not personally comfortable with the lack of data on what happens if kids are glued to an IPad from a young age, but Pete and I both have concerns. I don't think anyone is letting their kid use it 24/7 but I don't see it being very good for Atticus at this age or probably any time in the next several years.

Everyone from my team is running late so I had to go down and cover for them so the office hours are true. Good thing I came in early to eat breakfast. So I'm covering the opening shift and eating breakfast

So I found out yesterday the person I'm covering for won't be back until early February at the earliest. I'm not shocked but it looks like I won't get to finish my project, someone else will be and get all the credit even through I did the 2 years of prep work. This makes me angry for you! I hope S doesn't get the credit

X was up at 5:45 again, a full hour before I absolutely need to get out of bed. Harumph.
Pete has to work tomorrow so I'm trying to figure out what we want to do to occupy ourselves in the morning. Once X is up from nap my mom and I are taking them to a park for a picnic dinner.

A woman called b/c her nursery furniture had been backordered and she was screaming at me that she was "thirteen months pregnant!" and needed the furniture. We all laughed about it at the time, but now that I have been pregnant twice I totally get it. Sorry, crazy pregnant lady.

I've been refreshing the clinic page all morning. They have a "hold your spot" feature. But it's turned off because the client volume is to high. God I hope it slows down soon.

M hardly ever watches actual tv. And still has yet to sit through a full movie. But he loooves to play games on the iPad and gets probably an hour a day with it. I don’t know how I’d accomplish anything without it! What games do you have for him? He plays the Endless Alphabet ones, and then there are a couple of Peppa Pig ones that he likes. Also puzzle apps and one called Busy Shapes that is problem solving But...right now he is obsessed with this game that is simulated animal fights. He likes to see which animals can beat (kill 😕) each other. I blame my H for taking him to the Natural Science Museum and watching a video about predators!
