Here’s the area for reference. I need some kind of plastic mats to put around the stove when cooking questionable food that could stain. Poof

I’m totally paranoid about staining the white quartz around the stove on the island. That would suck. We are trying to find something to cover it when cooking something messy, especially when my mil cooks and uses turmeric. I thought quartz doesn’t stain. Thats what I thought too.

Our kitchen is a robin egg shade off blue, with near black hard stone countertops and very light pine floors. I love it! The hard stone does stain...

guster we don’t display dishes. The previous owners did and it just seemed very old fashioned. We use it to display pictures, nicknacks, etc.

vino when we bought our house the kitchen was very coloured wood with Formica countertops. DH’s uncle painted it, we put in an apron sink and a wooden countertop, it made a huge difference!

I’ve seen conflicting reports, it was either built in 1907 or 1910, so yeah... over 100 years old. It’s officially considered an ‘arts and crafts’ style which very mission, Stickley style. Think craftsman, but bigger.

Love your kitchen snoopmommymom. I love those doors, too. flamingo re: Brick walls. My neighborhood just got a new model home. Walking through the front door, they have a dining area with a brick wall...or so I thought. When you get up close, it's actually wall paper, but it looks SO real that you can't tell until you are up close. I love the look, but still not sure if that's something I would want in my house.

Turmeric stains everything though. Haha. Remember that time I made a turmeric mask and my face was orange after I washed it off?

So funny because while I appreciate a pop of colour that blue would be outdated in no time, not to mention the different colour island and cabinets, awful. There is no timeless continuity in that kitchen.

My SIL has that wallpaper on a wall! I was so confused at first because I had been there before and there was no bricks.

There is no timeless continuity in that kitchen. I agree. I do love the blue, but would get tired of it. It doesn't go at all with the brown cabinets! I'm not a huge fan of different color cabinets in a kitchen, I tend to like them all the same color.

We are only the 4th owners, and 2 of the prior 3 lived here for 40+ years. The people we bought from redid the kitchen aroun 1990 and added AC but otherwise our house was pretty untouched

The daughter had ‘thoroughly’ renovated the property in 1978 😖😖😖.

Zillow still has all of the pictures of my house up from when we bought it 3.5 years ago. I laugh because they say, "Updated throughout!". It most certainly was not. A bathroom with yellow floral wallpaper, a yellow vanity slightly falling apart and carpet is not updated.

guster , oooh I LOVE that. Wouldn't have thought about the cleaning aspect though... Yea I pretty much crush all of A's decorating/buying dreams with how hard things are to clean. I don't like nooks and cranies or anything with tiny details. I shouldn't need a qtip to clean anything. This is my thought anytime I see a shower with 1 inch tiles
