If I have to have siding on a house, I want gray with black shutters and door (but I'm not opposed to a colored door for a pop of color) I love classic combos like this. When we were in Charleston over Christmas, we saw some gorgeous combos in the community we rented the house in...one I really liked was a light taupe/greige siding, cream trim, with a darker greige shutter. Wood-stain on the front door. It sounds blah describing it but in person, against all the green vegetation, etc, it looked terrific. I don't like usually like wood stain, but I can see how it would work/ really well with a gray/cream/griege combo. Was it a dark stain or a distressed ship yard wood colored one (is there a name for that -- driftwood colored?)

I did see an episode of property brothers where they did a backsplash in brick and kind of white washed it, but not really. It looked old and chalky . I'm not describing it well, but I really liked it. I'll see if I can find a pic.

I feel like dust, grease, splatters would be hard to clean off.

I see subway tile on HGTV but I don’t feel like it’s in every project. But, I also don’t think it’s that common in real life applications either. A lot of times in person I see them similar to these ![](https://images.homedepot-static.com/productImages/56f54190-3bb1-49b4-952e-27abdb58db4e/svn/browns-tans-smart-tiles-tile-backsplashes-sm1049-6-64_1000.jpg) ![](https://s3.amazonaws.com/homestratosphere/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/27kitchen-tile-backsplash-feb11.jpg) ETA: I have also seen the travertine tile backsplashes. A girl on my other bmb is actually getting one installed in her house pretty soon.

My ideal house would have a dark brick, gray or tan siding and black shutters. Our current house has an ugly light tan brick so there isn't a ton we can do with siding/shutters. We have tan siding and a deep blue shutter. I so wish we could change our brick color! You could white wash or paint it.

guster , oooh I LOVE that. Wouldn't have thought about the cleaning aspect though... Yea I pretty much crush all of A's decorating/buying dreams with how hard things are to clean. I don't like nooks and cranies or anything with tiny details. I shouldn't need a qtip to clean anything.

If I have to have siding on a house, I want gray with black shutters and door (but I'm not opposed to a colored door for a pop of color) We just painted our house grey with off white accents and a deep red door. I love it Our house is over 100 years old. So we definitely don have a modern style. We have dish rail in our dining room, we have the tiny subway tile in our kitchen, and original wood trim everywhere. @klongoria, you would probably hate my house ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

I like the color combo of my house: navy, white trim with a red door and darker stain on the porch. But if we have to repaint our house before we move out of it I kind of want to paint it white with black trim.

I want to see it! Yes! Pictures please! If I had an old home like that I would stick with the style of the house. I love old farm houses. I'm still pissed at my grandparents for tearing down the original house on our farm. And no one took pictures before hand!

We did white cabinets, apron sink, white subway tile, and a quartz similar to what peachsmama linked. I never showed you guys the finished product because it’s still not finished! We also did oil rubbed bronze finishes with lots of natural wood touches that again, aren’t finished yet!

My kitchen doesn’t actually have a backsplash yet because I put in laminate counters when we built. The laminate has a piece that goes like 2-3 inches up the wall. I plan to replace them with white quartz at some point in the distant future and will do a backsplash then.

PDQ The trim around the window is going to be a natural walnut color to match the trim around the house. Poof

Also those are temporary paper shades until we get the window trim finished.

The Zillow house I love has copper faucets in the bathroom, and I'm totally surprised at how much I like it.

snoopmommymom I love me a white kitchen! and those floors...dreamy. they look like a proper natural wood stain, LOVE IT. We sanded all the floors on the first floor and picked the new darker stain because we made our house an open floor plan and put in a large island so all the room’s floors needed to match. We had a blonde color before and I’m so glad we went darker.

I like that color combination, jewels. I don't know what a dish rail is. Dish rail is basically chair rail at head height. Originally used to display ones decorative dishes.

I love brick walls. Can't you just take a wet rag to it to clean it?
