I love brick walls. Can't you just take a wet rag to it to clean it? That's what I would think. I can't imagine using a product on it. Although maybe one of the more natural cleaners would work,

I probably would like the look of a dish rail, but I wouldn't want it in my house because I feel compelled to dust those dishes every day and I don't have time for that.

I love brick walls. Can't you just take a wet rag to it to clean it? Yeah, if you got to it immediately. I can imagine my husband or kids splattering something and not cleaning it up or saying anything. Since it’s rough it’s harder to get it really clean with the grooves.

When we redid our kitchen, we did white subway tile and white cabinets. I wish I would have gotten a darker floor tile. The only reason I didn't was because I couldn't find one I thought went with the wood floor in the rest of the house. It's the original wood and I'm not a fan of the color of it. MH loves it though. Too bad I didn't know flamingo back then.

Especially if it's like the property brothers one that is painted. It'd be easier to clean.

How messy are y'all that you're getting shit all over your backsplash? LOL. We cook every day and I rarely get anything on mine.

We have kind of a darker greige (more of a smudge) tile in the "playroom", it has a lighter smudge colored grout, but I think I want something contrasting in there, but I don't know if a brighter warmer cream would look wrong.

Most days I don’t get anything on my walls, but one time I got a little crazy with some mousse and the hand mixer. I still randomly find little chocolate spots on my walls. (This was like 3 years ago that it happened). And sometimes spaghetti sauce will splatter a bit.

Cake batter, icing, buttercream, spaghetti sauce when I'm blending it, any sausage or bacon or goetta, burgers, steaks inside. We have to cook inside things that normally would be grilled since the grill won't get hot in this weather.

When J is about 5 we are going to decide if we are going to build a house or clean up ours. If we stay at our place we'll be doing new baseboards, like this: painting the walls this: and redoing the wood floors like this we have grey tile in the entrance and bathrooms so that would stay. I'd also like to take my kitchen cabinets from oak to white, kinda like this

I love classic combos like this. When we were in Charleston over Christmas, we saw some gorgeous combos in the community we rented the house in...one I really liked was a light taupe/greige siding, cream trim, with a darker greige shutter. Wood-stain on the front door. It sounds blah describing it but in person, against all the green vegetation, etc, it looked terrific. I don't like usually like wood stain, but I can see how it would work/ really well with a gray/cream/griege combo. Was it a dark stain or a distressed ship yard wood colored one (is there a name for that -- driftwood colored?) I would say medium-dark. More of a polished look, not distressed. You see a lot of doors similar to this (or straight across the top, not arched) in that area and I love them. Would definitely consider doing something like this on our next house.

Also those are temporary paper shades until we get the window trim finished. I see that white kitchen and am in love, unfinished trim and all. Well done. The kitchen in this rental house is basically 50 Shades of Brown...beige walls, beige tile, brownish granite counters, dark island, wood cabinets. Even the sink is this speckle-y beige toned composite material. And it's on the back of the house with only one small window, and is kinda dark (all the brown doesn't help). It's driving me crazy. I have told DH, we will have a white or off-white kitchen at the next house if I have to build it myself

I don't know if it's in style anymore, flamingo, but I love the painted ceilings of front porches of older Southern homes. Haint blue, I think. I connect it to Tiffany blue which is a shade I think I will always love.❤️

Here it is: I didn't even consider how difficult it would be to clean,@peach. I love that. I think you could achieve a similar look with travertine (which would have to be sealed, but it's doable). This was kind of my goal "look" for our last house...we had the light granite and backsplash in and our next step was to have the cabinets painted off-white. When we found out we'd be moving our realtor didn't feel like it was necessary b/c the wood cabinets were attractive and in good shape. But I really wanted that creamy kitchen.

It just occurred to me that at some point maybe I should teach Atticus how to make his bed? I would never care if he did or did not do it every morning though. I feel like I can't teach Cadence to do something I don't do myself. My cats would be pissed if I made my bed. That's their favorite place to nap, snuggled up in the messed up duvet. I feel like people think it teaches discipline or something? My dad was big on us making our bed because it was "the right way to start the day." Whatever. This is a home, a home that is comfortable and lived in and I'm not into making rules for the sake of making rules, is pretty much my thinking on it.

I feel like I'm probably very modern and very much a minimalist. This is Pete. His dream home would be all steel and glass.

The builder wanted to do plywood (f no) and I made him put up something called car siding. It looks like headboard. We stained it to match the porch. I love it.

I’m totally paranoid about staining the white quartz around the stove on the island. That would suck. We are trying to find something to cover it when cooking something messy, especially when my mil cooks and uses turmeric.

Plus I’m almost certain we already have a stain near the sink.
