Oh dear God. One of the things I see kicked around my AIP Facebook group is taking a shot of apple cider vinegar daily. So I just tried it. Omg. No. Ooooh no. Newp. Oh I still think I'm going to vomit. Did you take it straight? (Bleh!) If you do it, take it with a big glass of water. It’s not delicious, but it’s much more doable (and better for your tooth enamel). It sounds weird and counter-intuitive, but taking apple cider vinegar actually helps if I have heartburn.

I think the Never Any brand has sugar in it, which makes it not compliant. Some of the sausages also have cheese.

I love Aldi! One of my favorite things they have are the little guacamole cups. So convenient and they’re compliant.

nochill, I put radishes on my tacos all of the time, so I definitely think it will work. It’ll be different from a tomato salsa, but still good. The radish jicama combination is one of my favorites! So...where would one buy jicama? I live in Brooklyn so I am lucky that a little produce market near me usually has it, as well as a lot of other Latin American centered products, but I have seen it pre-cut in Trader Joe’s and I am betting some place like Whole Foods would have it too.

My sinuses are so clogged. FFThC, normally I would pound a bunch of wasabi peas to clear them out, but that's not going to work on Whole 30. Ideas?? Maybe I should go grab a bunch of radishes! (Kidding. I like radishes as much as the next person but can't just eat them plain.)

I'm trying to navigate my weekend. My parents invited me & the girls over for pizza to see my nephews, who I haven't seen in months. I plan to bring a big salad & just have that. But it's going to be hard to say no to pizza! There was some in our break room at work a few days ago, but it wasn't hot so I was able to resist.
Today's plan: B: veggie scramble L: shepherds pie & clementine S: chicken breast & apple D: salad & chicken
What's a good W30/paleo snack I can serve on Sunday? My BFF is coming over to see me & my girls/bring them Christmas presents. Normally I'd put out chips and salsa or dip. What's a good thing to serve that's not veggies/dip? (which is my back-up plan if I don't think of anything!)

(which is my back-up plan if I don't think of anything!) Do you have a Big Lots near you? They carry Inka brand plantain chips which are compliant. To me they taste like thick potato chips. They're $1 for a medium sized bag so not too expensive. You could do nuts and salsa or guacamole with plantain chips instead of crackers? No Big Lots near me, but I have a similar type of store in my area that may have it. I never would have thought to check there, but they always have all different types of "weird" food there. They usually carry Terra chips, which I think are compliant. Thanks!!
ETA - I did a little more googling and all store bought chips are non-compliant. But I'm going to take the chance on serving a snack w/ compliant ingredients, even if I end up throwing away the rest so I don't snack on them later that night.
The W30 is about changing my relationship with food, the biggest place I need change is post-dinner snacking. (Especially when it's paired with wine or a cocktail!)

Also other snack ideas for company: a little charcuterie or antipasto platter as long as you don’t include cheese.
fruit wrapped in prosciutto
Garlic, citrus or almond stuffed olives (or even plain olives packed in olive oil) are good
Blistered shishito peppers
Sundried tomatoes. Guacamole with sliced raw radishes and beets (golden so your fingers don’t get dyed) to dip in it instead of chips
Little latkes/ veggie fritters, maybe served with sugar free applesauce or a compliant lox.

I had vegan nachos tonight using homemade plantain chips, vegan queso, and taco spiced ground mushrooms. They were glorious.

This will sound awful I’m sure, but my biggest success so far isn’t food related. It’s that I haven’t had alcohol since Dec 31. I am very much a “enjoy a glass of wine after DD’s in bed” type but I haven’t really missed it yet.

I love to have a glass of wine while I cook dinner. But I’ve found that once I get past cooking the first part of a meal without wine, then I’m fine. And a cup of herbal tea after dinner is a nice way to unwind too.

Most of the wine we bought for having family over around Christmas is still sitting in the rack. This has never happened before.

So for me the success is in not drinking at home, which leads to the snacking.

What are everyone's strategies for getting through the weekends? It's Friday night, I don't want to cook and I don't think MH wants anything I would make anyway. Last night my kid was asking to order pizza, I was able to say no - but only because MH didn't want it.

Ali7P Last weekend was really the first weekend for me, and.. it did not go well. I have a meal already planned for dinner tonight, but it's Saturday and Sunday that I go overboard. I stuck to approved foods last weekend but I felt like I was eating constantly. Just snacking on things because they were THERE. It's easier during the week IMO because I portion out my breakfast/lunch and when those are gone, I don't have anything else to eat. Being home seems to be a huge trigger to just stuff my face. Anyway, I'll do what I can to make sure that my meal plan includes weekend lunches and dinners, and then try my best to stick to plan. We'll see how that goes.

This weekend is a 3 day weekend for me, which I definitely think will be challenging. I need to think about meals. I did find and splurge on those siete grain free tortillas, so I think I’ll be doing tacos tonight or tomorrow night. My husband is jonesin’ for wings, and has found a compliant recipe that he wants to make one night, and he’ll make cauliflower ones for me (bc I don’t eat meat), so that will be in the menu too.

It's a 3 day weekend for me too. Which makes the days more challenging, but the dinners easier since I'll actually have time to cook!

I am planning on having a couple drinks next Friday for a special occasion but I’m trying for no alcohol other than that.

I’m guilty of “sex with your pants on” tonight. I made a date sweetened avocado-coconut milk “ice cream.” It’s the weekend. I need something and this hits the spot. It’s awesome.

nochill, About 1/3 cup dates, 2-3 avocados, one frozen banana, one can full fat coconut milk, juice of one lime, 1 tsp vanilla extract/ scraping of one vanilla bean (depending on how strict you are); optional, unsweetened cocoa powder. Blend/ food process. stir in nuts, cocoa nibs, etc (optional) It will be like a mousse at this point. Put in a container (I used a bread loaf pan) and freeze. (Mine took less than an hour.)

We went out for hibachi last night 🙈 It was amazing. I'm not sue why I can't just suck it up & commit to the 30 days but it's just not happening. I'd like to hang here through the month, though. I do plan to eat "mostly W30". But I know that's not really the point. Today's plan: B: banana/egg mug cake L: shepherds pie (my last serving!) D: ? Maybe a burrito bowl

nochill you can also make a super easy 'ice cream' with frozen bananas blended in the food processor. Sometimes I will add a little bit of cocoa and some almond butter. Its like chocolate peanut butter ice cream. Super easy.

redandblue, I have the frozen banana blend for breakfast a couple times a week! It’s so good. DD calls it “yummy bowl.” For kids it’s also a great way to sneak in some veggies— I usually put some spinach or kale in mine.
