I am really surprised by the rotten tomatoes audience rating for TLJ - 49%. That's the lowest rating of any Star Wars movie, prequels included. www.rottentomatoes.com/m/star_wars_the_last_jedi/I don't think the rating deserves to be so low, and I feel bad for Rian Johnson, because I am sure he put a lot into this film (and there were a lot of really stellar moments). What do you guys think happened to make this film so controversial among the audience? I wonder if this is why Disney is bringing back JJ for episode 9?

Everyone I know IRL loved it.

There’s some articles out there about it if you want to do some googling. The actual audience polls are high. Some groups have made it their mission to sink the rotten tomatoes score. Mostly for icky reasons (too much diversity crap). I believe JJ was already slated to get 9.

What a bummer though for everyone who worked on the film. I didn't love it, but I certainly don't think it deserves to be the worst rated Star Wars film on rotten tomatoes, and there were lots of great parts to it.

Meh. I don't put much into rotting tomatoes since they are usually wrong on a majority of things. Same with IMDb users reviews.
It's box office sales that really matter and this movie hit it out of the park with that one.
Also, you can't make a fandom happy ever. It's just impossible. So, fuck the haters.

What are everyone's expectations/hopes for the solo movie. I don't know much about it personally, but I'm excited for another movie.

I really like that they casted Donald Glover - loooooove him so much. I think Emilia Clarke will be great too. I'm excited for it! I just hope they get the casting right for Han, I'm not familiar with the guy they chose.

Taitai I don't like when they cast people known for one fandom in another one. Like, I kept screaming in my head "it's Brienne, Brienne of Tarth" every time Phasma talked. It's was distracting. It's going to be hard to not do the same with the mother of dragons.

I'm looking forward to it though. DH is complaining that they missed a golden opportunity by having Avengers come out on May 4th instead of the SW movie.

You know he's in his 70s right? How would that even possible. I'm laughing because I came across a post somewhere that said there's a whole group of fans that will only be happy if they use Hamill and Ford and just CGI the crap out of them forever and ever. amen.

I know. I would not actually want him in the movie. I just am unsure of how someone else will play the character since Harrison Ford IS Han Solo to me.

I have trouble with other actors sometimes, but she's not one of them.

Here’s my hope for the Solo movie.
I hope they don’t try to explain everything. I don’t want this like a superhero origin story. Just give me like, a few days in the life of Han or something.
I’m really skeptical of prequels these days. Especially because (as you can probably guess from this thread), I find myself asking, what’s the point from a character perspective? We already know that Han goes from selfish, out for himself pirate to committed rebel in the course of the original trilogy. So he can’t have that same arc in this movie. So I want them to: -make an entertaining movie that stands on its own and doesn’t rely on dumb callbacks -not answer too many questions -give Han a character arc that doesn’t ruin the continuity of later films.

According to DH, who follows all the movie news, the Solo movie is supposed to be a gangster story, so I'm hoping that means it will be fun, but I'm skeptical. I also don't see the point of the movie, other than to make cash. Rogue One made sense, because it fleshed out something that is referred to in ANH, and introduced new characters and showed what the rebellion was like pre-Luke. This movie kind of feels like fanfic, and unnecessary. I am cautiously excited about Donald Glover as Lando.

This movie kind of feels like fanfic, and unnecessary. I am cautiously excited about Donald Glover as Lando. The bolded is the truth. When Disney took over I heard they were going to aim for a movie a year. Star Wars is an enormous cash cow and has lasted three generations of devoted fans. The merchandise sales alone are enough to keep it going. They aren't going to stop and will milk it for what it's worth. This is why I'm secretly hoping they won't kill off Kylo, because they will need him if they want to make more movies past episode 9, and have them be any good. Him and Rey teaming up to take on another villain would be a great story arc and I think Disney knows this. If they kill him off, they will have to start over and I think it would be flat with just good vs. evil. For the solo movie, I'm just hoping it's entertaining and it gives me another glimpse into the universe. I will get ragey if they give him force abilities or any inkling of that or if they give him any ties to Leia. Other movies I would like to see: Thrawn, a bounty hunter movie that's preferably with Aurra Sing, A Yoda origin story, and a rise of the Sith movie. I've seen around the internet people pushing for an Obi Wan movie, but I don't think that would make any sense. It would be 2 hours of him sitting on Tatooine scaring off Tusken Raiders and brooding in his hovel. Don't get me wrong, I love Obi Wan, but we see his early years in episode 1 and then as a jedi in the Clone wars and the later prequals. There's really nothing more to say.

I think a pre prequel movie would be good. Traditional knights of the old Republic.

I want to say Boba Fett post Sarlacc escape. Have they done anything with that other than the tales of the Bounty Hunter short story compilation? It doesn’t really matter anyway, right, since the novels are no longer cannon?
Other than that, I’m interested in the storm trooper child soldier shit. I mean, that’s dark, but I would like to see more of the implications of what they have been doing there.
And then maybe just keep taking me to other parts of the galaxy to meet new people. I’m also a pass on exploring tattooine obi wan or like the youth of uncle Owen.

Child soldier shit would be cool post clone wars, where they started stealing people from their families, but I don't see how they could make a whole movie about it. This website is really helpful in seeing what is considered new vs old canon and where it falls in the timeline www.yodasdatapad.com/booklist.html

DH said there was a tv series planned at one point (i think pre-Disney) of adventures in the Star Wars underworld, which would be fun. Introduce some new characters, play around in the Star Wars sandbox.
He is also positive that there will be an Obi-Wan movie, because Ewan has been buffing up and has the Obi-Wan beard now.

If I were Ewan I’d want some of that Disney money, too. But I’ve never been team Obi Wan. He mostly sucks.

Does he know what the plot would be or even when in the timeline? Because if it's anytime after episode 3, then I don't see the point. Obi wan essentially died on Mustafar with Anakin. The love of his life died in his arms, the man he regarded as a brother betrayed him and destroyed everything and everyone he knew and loved. He's a shell of the man he once was. He's not going on adventures. He's not training new Jedi. All the fight in him is gone. I mean unless they are going to have him resurrect Satine, run away with her, and have a gaggle of babies. That I could get on board with.

sheilathetank - I have the exact same concerns for an obj-Wan movie. In regards to Emilia Clarke, I don't watch GoT, so I guess that casting doesn't bother me. I just love her eyebrows and enjoyed her performance in Me Before You.
