And the kids have a 4 day weekend and then spring break (thank goodness for vacation camp) so we were planning on visiting my sister's family 6 hours away and I am not sure I planned that very well at all.

I watched the solar eclipse on tv as it crossed the US. Such a cool phenomenon, would have been amazing to see it in person but we were no where near totality.
It looks like the next total eclipse is happening in 2026 in parts of Iceland/Greenland/Spain/Portugal, maybe time to start planning a trip!

I turned 40 last November and mentally struggled with it. A lot of it is feelings like Iβm not where I hoped to be career wise, weβre still struggling financially even though on paper we earn a good household income, and I feel very meh in my fitness and energy levels. Having no social life doesnβt help either.
Iβm trying not to be down about it, but that week after my birthday was rough.

Oh and those of you that have eclipse glasses, see if there are people/places locally that are collecting them for recycling, or there are various places you can mail them to and they will send them to South American countries for their solar eclipse in the fall.

I've really seen a change in my ability to take time for myself and friends in the past year. My kids are 8 & 5, and I hope it just continues to get easier.

We were able to see a solar flare at the bottom of the sun! It was like a bright neon red! That was so amazing! One of the residents in my complex had a telescope and got a picture where you could clearly see a sunspot. I was lucky enough to capture the flare at the bottom!

I took DS to Gymboree, and ran into a guy I used to work with years ago at the company I was at before going back to get my certification. We only knew each other on surface level, he wasnβt in my department, but I recognized him immediately. We chatted a bit, and I found out he is on paternity leave because his wife just had their second kid a week ago. He was (and apparently still is) good friends with a guy in my department that was honestly kind of an asshole lol, but Iβm sure we were all assholes when we were working there in our early to mid 20s. π₯΄

DD and her friend was talking about a teen volunteer summer program. She was so excited about it. Of course itβs filled and she knows that but I guess itβs time for us to be looking for these things. They were talking about how it looks good on resumes and college applications πππ
She is only finishing up 7th grade so plenty of time but it still hit me a little

I recently found out that I could qualify for the Senior Games in my state at 45. I'm going to start training now and crush the seniors. π I'm going to a masters gymnastics competition in June. It is for 30 and up but with each decade you get more points for the same skills

I thought it would have my shit together in my 40s. (Narrator: She did not, in fact, have her shit together.) Also, to quote the great Nora Ephron, I feel bad about my neck. But I have relatively good health, which I do not take for granted.

I went to the orthodontist yesterday to price out braces and with my new insurance I only have to pay $2500 out of pocket and they offer monthly payments, so I'm going back Saturday to get braces put on. I'm very excited. It's something I have wanted to do forever and I'm getting a little bit of money from my H's work pension so I decided to go for it. He recommended regular braces over Invisalign, which surprised me, but he said they would take less time overall.

I think I need one crown placed before I can start on cosmetic procedures.

DS has an orthodontist consult on Friday morning and "only $2500" is not making me very happy.

DS has an orthodontist consult on Friday morning and "only $2500" is not making me very happy. The cost of dental work is so insane to me and the fact that most of it is barely covered by insurance is ridiculous. Teeth are part of the body, and oral health can have a huge impact on overall health. I was at the dentist the other day and a woman was checking out and they were going over her treatment plan and she was going to have to pay $9500 out of pocket for two implants and a crown. It's shameful.

My kids are off for the holiday and the weather is beautiful, which is bringing me so much joy. We went to a park they like, stopped at H Mart, and now everyone is doing their thing while I catch up on slack/email

My kid has been getting picked on on the bus to the point that I just called and left a message with the garage supervisor. Why are kids this way?
